- Never rely exclusively on the outside
temperature display to determine if a
road surface is icy or not. Keep in mind
that road surfaces, especially bridges
and overpasses, could be ice covered and
slippery even at an outside temperature
above 41 °F
(+5 °().
-Always remember, even if the "snow­
flake" symbol (ice warning) does not ap­
pear in the d isplay, black ice could be on
the road.
- Always reduce your speed and drive with special care in cold weather cond itions
when the chance of encountering icy
road surfaces increases.
(D Tips
-If the vehicle is stationary, or if you are
dr iving at a very low speed, the tempera­
ture shown in the d isplay m ight be
slightly higher than the actual outside
temperature . Thi s is caused by the heat
being radiated from the engine.
- Yo u can select the units used for temper­
ature, speed and other measurements in
the MMI.

You can centrally lock and unlock your vehicle
and start the engi ne with the master key with
remote control. A mechanical key is integ rat­
ed in the remote co ntrol key~ page

® Emergency key
The emergency key is not intended for con­
stant use.
It should on ly be used in an emer­
gency. Keep it in a safe place and do not car ry
it on your key ring .
Key replacement
If you lose a key, contact your authorized A udi
dealer immediately to have the
lost key disa­
b led. Be s ure to bring all your keys with you.
Personal comfort settings
If two peop le use one vehicle, it is recom ­
mended that each person always uses "t heir
own" master key . When the ignition is switch­
ed off or when the vehicle is locked, persona l
conven ience settings for the follow ing sys­
tems are stored and ass igned to the remote
maste r key.

The stored settings are automatically recalled
when you unlock the vehicle, when you open
the doors or w hen you switch t he ignition on.
A WARNING
- Do not leave you r vehicle unattended. A l­
ways take your ig nition key wi th you and
loc k your v ehicle. Entry by unau th or ize d
pe rsons could endanger yo u or resul t in
theft or d amage t he vehi cle.
- D o not leave c hildren una ttended in t he
veh icle, especi ally wi th a ccess to vehicle
key s. U ngu ard ed a ccess to t he keys pro­
vi des childre n the o pportu nity to s tart
the eng ine a nd/or activate vehicle sys ­
tems such as the power windows, etc .
Unsupervised operation o f any vehicle
system by c hildren can result in serious
in ju ry .
(D Tips
- Th e ope ration of t he remote control key
can be temporar ily disrupted by inte rfer­
ence fr om transm itters in the vic inity of
the vehicle working in the same fr equen­
cy range (e.g. a cell p hone, radio e quip ­
m ent).
- Fo r security reasons, r eplacement keys
are only ava ilable from Audi dealers.

Switching the windshield wipers on

Move th e windshield wiper lever to the corre­
sponding pos ition:
@ -Windshie ld wipers off
(I) -Rain sensor mode . The windshield w ipers
switch on once the vehicle speed exceeds ap­
p roximately 2 mph (4 km/h) and it is raining.
The higher the rain sensor sensitivity is set
(switch @to the right), the earlier the wind­
shield wipers react to moisture on the wi nd­
shie ld. You can deact ivate rain sensor mode in
the MMI, which w ill then activate intermittent
mode. Selec t:
ICAR I function bu tton > ( Car )*

> Off . In intermittent mode, you can
adjust the interval time using the switch@.
@-Slow wiping
@-Fast wiping
© -Single wipe. If you hold the lever in this
position longer, the wipers switch from slow
wiping to fast wip ing.
® - Clean the windshield. The wipers wipe
one time after several seconds of driv ing to
remove water drop lets. You can switch this
function off by mov ing the lever to position ®
within 10 seconds after the afterw ipe . The af­
terw ipe fun ct ion is react ivated the next time
you swit ch the ig nition on.
Cleaning the headlights* . The headlight wash­
e r system* operates only when the headlights
are on. If you move the lever to pos ition ®, t
h e headlights and the night vision assistant
camera* are washed in intervals.
.&_ WARNING
-
-The rain sensor is only designed to assist
and support the driver.
It remains entire­
ly t he driver's responsibility to monitor
outside weather cond itions and to man­
ually activate the wipe rs as soon as rain
or drizzle reduces v isibility through the
windshie ld.
- The windsh ield must no t be treated w ith
wate r-repellent mate rials. They can in­
crease glare unde r poo r vis ibility condi ­
tions such as we tness, d arkness, or when
the s un is low on the hor izon. In addi­
tion, they can cause the w indshield w ip­
ers to chatter .
- Prope rly f unctioning windshield wiper
b lades are required for a clear view and
safe driving

(D Note
- In the case of frost, check whethe r th e
windshield wiper blades are frozen to
the windsh ield. Sw itching on the wind­
shield wipers can damage the wiper
blades!
- Prior to us ing a car wash, the w indshield
w iper system must be sw itched off (lever
in posit ion @). Th is he lps to prevent un­
intentional switching on and damage to
the winds hield wiper system.
- Do not use the w ipers to clear a frosted
w indow. Us ing the wipers as a conven­
ient ice scrape r will destroy the wipe r
blades .
(D Tips
-The windshie ld w ipers are switched off
w hen the ignit ion is off . Activate the
w indshield wipers after the ign ition is
s witched back o n by moving the w ind­
shield wiper lever to any position.
- Worn or dirty windshield wipe r blade s
result in streaking. This can affec t the

"N ight v is ion assistant with pedestrian detec­
tion" uses an infrared camera to monitor the
area in front of your vehicle at night. Within
the limits of the system , it can display objects
up to about 1000 feet (300 meters) away. The
heat image of a pedestrian detected by the
camera is shown in the instrument cluster dis­
play

Night vision assistant can detect pedestrians
that are between about 50 and 300 feet (15
and 90 meters) in front of the vehicle, under
ideal conditions .
If a pedestrian is detected
when it is dark outside and the vehicle head­
lights are switched on, the pedestrian is high ­
lighted in yellow

I f a pedestrian is detected in an area in front
of the vehicle that the system considers criti­
cal, the pedestrian is high lighted in red
Q fig . 109 and a warning tone sounds. This
area is based on the vehicle speed and steer ­
ing angle. The pedestrian warning prompts
you to pay even closer attention to the area in
front of the vehicle and to watch out for pe­
destrians.
If another display s uch as the on-baord com­
puter replaces the image from the n ight vision
assistant, the indicator light turns red when
there is a pedestrian warning .

T he following situat ions may affect the func­
t ion of the n ight vision assistant system:
- poor visibility such as snow, rain, fog or
heavy road spray
- dirty lens on the n ight vis ion assistant cam -
era
Make sure the night vision assistant camera
q fig . 111 is not covered by stickers, deposits
or any other obstructions because that can
prevent the camera from working properly.
For information on cleaning the lens, refer to
Q page 209.
Pedestrian detection depends on the d iffer ­
ence in temperature between the person and
the background. Pedestr ians may not be de­
tected if the temperature diffe rence is too
small . Th e pedestrian highl ighting feature is
deactivated at tempe ratures above 77 ° F
(25 °C) and when it is light outside.
A WARNING
Night vision assistant has limits and can­
not always detect pedestr ians. Always pay
close attention to traffic and the area
around your vehicle even when night vision
assistant is sw itched on .
- Night vision assistant can only warn
about people located within the visual
range of the infrared camera. The visual
range corresponds to the image in the in­
strument cluster display .
- Night vision assistant may not detect

-they are not in an upright position, for
examp le if they are s itting, crouching
or lying down and/or
- if the outline in the display is incom­
p lete or interrupted, for example be­
cause the person is partially hidden by
a parked veh icle .
(D Tips
-Pedestrian detection and the pedestrian
warming are lim ited to objects that are
detected as pedestr ians. The system
does not detect animals . Even though
the shape and warmth radiated by each
object det ected is evaluated, the system
does have lim itations and it can give in­
correct warnings.
- Fo r techn ical reasons , the image pauses
in split second interva ls.
