battery holder out of the master key i n the
direction of the arrow.
• Install the new battery with the"+" sign fac­
i ng down.
• Push the battery holder carefully into the
master key. •

Please ch ange the k ey battery
If the indicator light!! turns on and the mes­
sage appears, the batte ry in the remote con­
tro l master key i s drained. We recommend
having the battery replaced by an autho rized
A udi dealer.
@) For the sake of the environment
Dispose of d ead batteries properly so as
not to pollute the environment.

The replacement battery must be the
same spec ification as the o riginal.
Electronic immobilizer
The immobilizer helps to prevent unauthor­
ized use of your vehicle .
A computer chip inside your key automatically
deact ivates the electron ic immobilizer when
the key is inside the veh icle. When you remove
the key from the vehicle, the ele ct ron ic immo­
bilizer is automati cally activated once aga in.
.8_ WARNING
A lways take the key w ith you when you
l eave the vehicle. The key can disa rm the
e lectronic engine immobilizer and permit
an unauthorized person to start the engine
and enable operation of the vehicle sys­
tems such as power window or power sun­ roof leadi ng to se rious pe rsonal injury.
@ Tips
- The ve hicle cannot be started if an una u­
thorized key is used. The vehicle may not start if another radio device s uch as a key
for another ve hicle or a transponder is
located on the key ring.

Valet parking
The valet parking feature protects the lug­
gage comportment from unauthorized ac­
cess .

The vehicle can be driven and locked and un­ locked w ith the master key. Access to the lug­
gage compartment is blocked.

A wind deflector integrated into the sliding/
t il ting sunroof adapts automatically to the
speed and sunroof pos ition . This reduces wind
noise to a m inimum in all sunroof positions .
You can still close or open the sunroof for up
to ten minutes after you have switched the ig­
nition off . The switch is deact ivated once the
driver's or front passenger's door is opened.
Solar protection
The solar protection opens automatically
when the sunroof opens.

Vehicles with a glass panel sunroof: the sun
shade can be opened and closed by hand
when the sunroof is closed.
Vehicles w ith a so lar panel s unroof*: the
closed sunshade opens automatica lly when
the sunroof opens.
A WARNING
Pay careful attention when closing the
sliding/tilting sunroof - otherwise serious
injury cou ld result! Nehmen Sie deshalb

Always close your sliding/tilting sunroof
when leaving your vehicle. Sudden rain can
cause damage to the interior equipment of
your veh icle, particu larly the electronic

Emergency closing of the sliding/tilting
sunroof
If th e sun roof detects an object in its path
when it is closing, it will open again automati­
cally. In this case, you can close the roof with
the power emergency closing function.

Tilting the rear segment of the roof
The rear segment of the roof can be operated
both from the cockpit and from the rear seat.

After the ignit ion is switched off, you can st ill
ope rate the panoramic sun roof for about
10
minutes . The switch is deactivated once the
driver's or front passenger's door is opened .
& WARNING
Be careful when closing the panoramic
sunroof - otherwise serious injury could re­
sult! For this reason, always remove the ig­
nition key when leaving the vehicle.

sult! For th is reason, always remove the ig­
nition key when leaving the vehicle.
Roof segment/sun shade emergency
closing
Applies to vehicles: with panoramic sunroof
If the roof segment or sun shade detects an
object in its path when it is closing, it will
open again automatically . In this case, you
can then close it with the power emergency
closing function.
,. Within five seconds after the roof segment
or sun shade opens automatica lly, pull the
switch until it closes.

A WARNING
-The ski sack is intended only for the
transportation of skis and other light ob­
jects. To reduce the risk of serious per­
sonal injury, never transport heavy or pointed objects in the ski sack.
- When brak ing rapidly or during an acci­
dent, the load could be displaced and
cause i njury to occupants.
- Sharp edges on the load must be covered
for protect ion. Always fasten the belt
ti ghtly around the sack and its contents
~fig. 68.
-For safety reasons, do not t ransport
more than two pairs of skis in the ski
sack .
- You must secure the ski sack with the
strap after loading.
- Make sure all objects tha t you are trans­
porting in the pass-th rough a re secured.
Otherwise they cou ld slide around during
s u dden braking maneuvers and cause in­
jury.
(D Tips
- Never stow the sk i sack away when it is
still wet or damp ( for example, snow
melting from skis). Allow it to dry com­
plete ly before stowing it away.
- Position skis in the ski sack w ith the
pointed ends facing the front and ski
po les w ith the pointed ends facing the
rear.

Roof rack
Description and mounting locations
Additional cargo can be carried with a roof
luggage rack.

.,. Always read and follow the instructions pro­
vided by the roof rack man ufacturer when
the roof rack system must be installed.
If luggage or cargo is to be carr ied on the
roof, you must observe the following:
- To enhance the vehicle's streamlined design,
rai n gutters have been molded i nto the roof.
It is not poss ible to use normal roof racks.
On ly ins tall a roof rack specifically designed
for your model AB. Contact the nearest Audi dea ler for information on approved modular
roof racks for your vehicle.
- On ly use roof racks approved for your vehi ­
cle. These approved roof racks are the basis
for a complete roof rack system. Additional
attachments or carrier systems are needed
to transport luggage and sports equipment.
We recommend using roof racks from the
Audi orig inal accessories program .
- When installing the roof rack, make sure it
is o nly mounted on the des ignated locations
on the roof

- We recommend that you keep the installa­
tion instructions for your roof rack system
together with your Owner's literature in the
veh icle.
When sh ould the roof rack be rem oved?
-Before going through an automatic car wash
(it is best to ask the car wash operator for
adv ice)

-When not in use, to reduce fuel consump­
tion, wind noise and to guard against theft.
A WARNING
- Use of an unapproved roof rack or incor­
rect mounting of an approved roof rack
can cause the roof rack or the items at­
tached to it to fall off the roof onto the
road .
- Objects falling from the roof of a vehicle
can cause a crash and personal injury .
- Only mount the roof rack on the desig­
nated locations on the roof

-The roof rack system must be installed
exactly according to the instructions pro­
vided.
- When driving with a roof rack system,
changes to the center of gravity and wind
resistance can change the vehicle han­
dling and lead to a collision . Always
adapt your driving and your speed to the
current conditions.
- Your vehicle warranty does not cover any
damages to the vehicle caused by using
roof racks or mounting structures not
approved by Audi for your vehicle. The
same applies to damage resulting from
incorrect roof rack installation.
- Always check the roof rack mountings
and hardware before each trip and dur­
ing a trip to make sure everything is se­
curely tightened. If necessary, retighten
the mountings and check the entire sys­
tem from time to time.
- After mounting a roof rack system, or
when you transport objects on the roof
of your vehicle, the height of the vehicle
is naturally increased. Be careful when
driving under low bridges or in parking
garages for example . This could cause
damage to the load and even the vehicle itself.
- Make sure the open rear lid and the sun­
roof* do not come into contact with the
roof rack.
Loading the roof rack
Always distribute loads evenly. Make sure
anything on the roof rack is securely tied
down.

.. Always attach items to the roof rack securely
before you drive off.
The maximum permissible roof weight is
220
lb (100 kg).
The roof weight is the total of
the weight of the roof rack, the attachments
and the cargo you are carrying. You must also
not exceed the maximum load weight for the
roof rack you are using.
When using a roof rack system which has a lower load carrying capacity, you must not use
up the total maximum permissible load carry­
ing capacity specified above. Instead, you
should load the roof rack system only to the
maximum capacity specified by the manufac­
turer of the roof rack system .
A WARNING ,_
Weak, damaged or improper straps used
to secure items to the roof rack can fail
during hard braking or in a collision and
cause serious personal injury .
- Make sure the roof rack is installed exact­
ly as specified above

- Always use suitable mounting straps for
securing items to the roof rack to help
prevent items from shifting or flying for­
ward .
- Items on the roof rack must always be securely mounted .
- The use of a roof rack can negatively af ­
fect the way a vehicle handles . Cargo
that is large, heavy, bulky, long or flat
will have a greater negative influence on
the vehicle's aerodynamics, center of
gravity and overall handling. Always
drive slowly, avoid sudden braking and
maneuvers when transporting cargo on
the roof of your vehicle .

-Never exceed the maximum permissible
load carry ing capacity of the roof of your
vehicle, the perm issible axle weights and
the permiss ible total weight of your veh i­
cle

-Always drive slowly, avoid sudden brak­
ing and maneuvers when transporting
cargo on the roof of your vehicle .
@) For the sake of the environment
Sometimes it may be easier to leave a roof
rack installed even though you are not us­
ing it. Due to the increased a ir resistance
your vehicle will unnecessarily use more
fuel. Remove the roof rack if you are not
going to use it.
12-volt sockets
App lies to vehicles: 12-volt sockets
Electrical accessories can be connected to ev­
ery 12 -volt socket.

front center console~

T he 12 volt socke ts may be used for 12-volt
appliances with maximum consumpt ion of up
to 100 watts.
Before you purchase any accessories, always
read and follow the info rmation in
~ page 285 , Additional accessories and parts
replacement.
A WARNING
The sockets and the electrical accessories
connected to them operate only when the
ignition is switched on .1ncorrect usage
can lead to ser ious injuries or burns . To re­
duce the risk of injuries, never leave chil ­
dren unattended in the vehicle w ith the ve­
h icle key.
(D Note
To avoid damaging the socket, only use
plugs that fit properly .
- Never connect eq uipment that generates
electrical current, such as a solar panel
or battery charger, to the 12 volt socket .
Th is could damage the vehicle 's electri­
cal system.
- The 12 volt socket sho uld only be used
for a short per iod of t i me as a powe r
so urce for electrical equipme nt. Please
use the elec trical sockets in the vehicle
when connecting equ ipment for longer
periods .
(D Tips
When the engine is off and ac ce ssories are
still plugged in and are on , the vehicle ba t­
tery can still be drained .

7 4 Warm and cold
Warm and cold Climate controls
Description
The climate control system warms, cools and
adds humidity to the air in the vehicle interior.
It is the most effect ive when the windows and
sunroof* are closed . If the temperature inside
the parked vehicle becomes very warm, open­ ing the window briefly will speed up the cool­
ing process.
I n all heating mode functions except
defrost,
the blower on ly switches to a higher speed
once the engine coolant has reached a certain
temperature.
Condensation from the cooling system can
drip and form a puddle of water under the ve­
hicle. This is normal and does not mean there
is a leak.
Pollutant filter
The pollutant filter removes pollutants such
as dust and po llen from the air.
The air pollutants filter must be changed at
the intervals spec ified in you r Warranty
&
Maintenance booklet, so that the air condi­
tioner can properly work.
I f you drive your vehicle in an a rea with high
a ir po llution, the filter may need to be
changed more frequent ly than specified in
your Aud i Warranty
& Maintenance booklet. If
in doubt, ask your authorized Audi Service Ad­
visor for advice .
Key coded settings
The climate control settings are a utomat ically
stored and assigned to the remote control key
that is in use.
A WARNING
Reduced visibility is dangerous and can
cause accidents. -
- For safe driving it is very important that
all windows be free of ice, snow and con­
densation.
- Comp letely familiarize yourself with the
proper use and function of the heating
and ventilation system and especially how to defog and defrost the windows.
- Never use the windshield wiper/washer
system in freez ing weather unt il you
have warmed the windshield first, using
the heating and ventilation system. The
washer solution may freeze on the wind­ sh ie ld and reduce visib ility.
(D Note
- If you suspect that the air conditioner has been damaged, switch the system
off to avoid further damage and have it
inspected by a qualified dealership.
- Repairs to the Audi air conditioner re­
quire special technical knowledge and
special tools. Contact an authorized Aud i
dea ler fo r assistance.
@ For the sake of the environment
By reducing the amount of fuel you use,
you also reduce the amount of pollutants
emitted into the air.
(D Tips
- Keep the air intake s lots (in fro nt of the
w indshield) free from ice, snow and de ­
bris in order to maintain the proper func­
tion of the climate control system.
- T he energy management system may
switch the seat heating* or rear window
defroster off temporari Ly . These systems
are available again as soon as the energy
balance has been restored.
- Air escapes through vents under the rear
window. When placing items of clothing on the luggage compartment cover, en­
sure that the openings are not covered.

Setup
The climate control system setup is accessed
through the MMI.

Rear cabin settings*
When th is function is selected, all sett ings for
the rear can be adjusted through the climate con trol system in the cockpit. The cl ima te
con trol system setti ngs cannot be adjus ted in
the rear seat a t the same time . This func tion
switches off after a ce rtain period of time or
when one of the dials in the cockpit is press­
ed.
Auto reci rculation*
The sens itivity level of the au tom atic rec i rcu­
l ation mode can be set at v arious leve ls from
off to sensit ive . When recirculation mode ia:. !
is switched on, air recirculation is contro lled
automatically . You must press the~ button if
fog forms on the windows.
Footwell temperature
You ca n ad just the footwe ll tempe rat ur e so
that it is cooler or wa rmer.
AC mode
T he strengt h of t he airflow ca n be adjusted to
light, med ium o r strong.
Windshield heat*
When the defroster~ is switched o n and the
Auto sett ing is selected, the windshie ld de­
froster is controll ed automatically .
Solar roof*
When the ignition is off, so lar-powered park­
i n g vent ilation may switch o n, as long as
- there is sufficient sunlight,
- th e outside tempe ratu re is not too low,
- the center vents are open,
- the sun roof is clos ed o r til te d and

- recirculation mode l""' I (climate control sys­
tem) and
Auto ( M MI) are selected.
Pa rking ventila tion is cont rolled au toma tic ally
in the
Auto sett ing.
