HOW DOES THE SAFETY CANOPY™
WORK
WARNING: Do not place objects ormount equipment on or near the headlinerat the siderail that may come into contactwith a deploying curtain airbag. Failure tofollow these instructions may increase therisk of personal injury in the event of acrash.
WARNING: Do not lean your headon the door. The curtain airbag could injureyou as it deploys from the headliner.
WARNING: To reduce risk of injury,do not obstruct or place objects in thedeployment path of the airbag.
The Safety Canopy deploys during significantside crashes or when a certain likelihood ofa rollover event is detected by the rolloversensor. The Safety Canopy is mounted tothe roof side-rail sheet metal, behind theheadliner, above each row of seats. In certainsideways crashes or rollover events, theSafety Canopy will be activated, regardlessof which seats are occupied. The SafetyCanopy inflates between the side windowarea and occupants to further enhanceprotection provided in side impact crashesand rollover events.
The system consists of the following:
•Safety Canopy curtain airbags above thetrim panels over the front and rear sidewindows identified by a label or wordingon the headliner or roof-pillar trim.
•A flexible headliner which opens abovethe side doors to allow air curtaindeployment
· Crash sensors and monitoringsystem with a readiness indicator.See Crash Sensors and AirbagIndicator (page 72).
Properly restrain children 12 years old andunder in the rear seats. The Safety Canopywill not interfere with children restrainedusing a properly installed child or boosterseat because it is designed to inflatedownward from the headliner above thedoors along the side window opening.

SWITCHING AUTOUNLOCK ON ANDOFF
1.Press the menu button on the steeringwheel to enter the information displaymain menu.
2.Select Settings.

5.Switch Autounlock on or off.
AUTOLOCK
WHAT IS AUTOLOCK
Autolock is a locking feature that locks yourvehicle doors when you start driving.
AUTOLOCK REQUIREMENTS
Autolock locks all the doors when all of thefollowing occur:
•All doors are closed.
•The ignition is on.
•Your vehicle reaches a speed greaterthan 12 mph (20 km/h).
MISLOCK
WHAT IS MISLOCK
Mislock is a locking feature that warns youif your vehicle has not locked.
MISLOCK LIMITATIONS
When you press the lock button once, thedirection indicators do not flash if any dooror the liftgate or hood is open.
1.If any door or the liftgate is open.
2.The hood is open.
SWITCHING MISLOCK ON AND OFF
1.Press the menu button on the steeringwheel to enter the information displaymain menu.

PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM
WHAT IS THE PASSIVE ANTI-THEFTSYSTEM
The passive anti-theft system preventssomeone from starting the vehicle with anincorrectly coded key.
Note:Do not leave a duplicate coded keyin your vehicle. Always take the keys andlock all the doors when leaving your vehicle.
HOW DOES THE PASSIVE ANTI-THEFTSYSTEM WORK
The passive anti-theft system arms when youswitch the ignition off.
It disarms when the ignition is switched onwith a correctly coded key.
Note:The system is not compatible withnon-Ford aftermarket remote start systems.
Note:Do not leave a duplicate coded keyin your vehicle. Always take the keys andlock all doors when leaving your vehicle.
ANTI-THEFT ALARM SYSTEM
WHAT IS THE ANTI-THEFT ALARMSYSTEM
The Anti-Theft Alarm System warns you ofan unauthorized entry to your vehicle.
HOW DOES THE ANTI-THEFT ALARMSYSTEM WORK
When armed, the anti-theft alarm is triggeredin any of the following ways:
•If someone opens a door, the liftgate orthe hood without a correctly coded keyor remote control.
•If you turn the power on without acorrectly coded key.
•If the interior sensors detect movementinside your vehicle.
•If the inclination sensors detect anattempt to raise your vehicle.
•If someone disconnects the vehiclebattery or the battery backup alarm.
If the anti-theft alarm is triggered, the alarmhorn sounds for 30 seconds and thedirection indicators flash for 5 minutes.
Any further attempts to carry out one of theabove sounds the alarm again.
WHAT IS THE PERIMETER ALARM
The perimeter alarm is designed to detectunauthorized access to your vehicle.
WHAT ARE THE INTERIOR SENSORS
The interior sensors are designed to detectany movement inside your vehicle.
The interior sensors are in the overheadconsole.
Note:Do not cover the interior sensors.
WHAT ARE THE INCLINATIONSENSORS (If Equipped)
The inclination sensor is designed to detectan attempt to raise your vehicle, for exampleto remove a wheel or to tow it away.

Brake System
It illuminates when you apply theparking brake and the ignition ison. If it illuminates when yourvehicle is moving, make sure theparking brake is released. If theparking brake is released, thisindicates low brake fluid level or the brakesystem requires service. Have your vehiclechecked as soon as possible.
Note:Indicators may vary depending onregion.
Door Ajar
It illuminates when you switch theignition on and remains on if anydoor is open.
Electric Parking Brake
It illuminates or flashes when theelectric parking brake requiresservice.
Engine Coolant Temperature
If it illuminates, safely stop yourvehicle and switch your vehicle off.
Fasten Seatbelt
It illuminates and a tone soundsuntil you fasten the seatbelts.
Hood Ajar
It illuminates when the ignition ison and the hood is not completelyclosed.
Liftgate Ajar
It illuminates when the ignition ison and the liftgate is notcompletely closed.
Low Beam Warning
It illuminates when the low beamheadlamp requires service. Havethe system checked as soon aspossible.
Low Fuel Level
It illuminates when the fuel level islow.
Low Tire Pressure
It illuminates when your tirepressure is low. If illuminated,check your tire pressure as soonas possible. If it begins to flash at anytime,have the system checked as soon aspossible.
Low Washer Fluid Level
It illuminates when the washer fluidis low.

WHAT IS REMOTE START
The system allows you to remotely start yourvehicle and to adjust the interior temperatureaccording to the settings that you chose.
REMOTE START PRECAUTIONS
WARNING: Do not start the enginein a closed garage or in other enclosedareas. Exhaust fumes are toxic. Alwaysopen the garage door before you start theengine. Failure to follow this instructioncould result in personal injury or death.
REMOTE START LIMITATIONS
Remote start does not work under thefollowing conditions:
•The alarm horn is sounding.
•The hood is open.
•The transmission is not in park (P).
•The ignition is on.
•The battery voltage is below theminimum operating voltage.
Note:Do not use remote start if your fuellevel is low.
Note:To use remote start with Lincoln Wayor Phone as a Key, enable the modem. SeeConnecting the Vehicle to a Wi-Fi Network(page 423).
ENABLING REMOTE START
1.Using the instrument cluster displaycontrols on the steering wheel, selectSettings.
2.Select Vehicle.
3.Select Remote Start.
4.Switch System on.
Note:To use remote start, make sure thatthe modem is enabled. See Enabling andDisabling the Modem (page 423).
REMOTELY STARTING AND
STOPPING THE VEHICLE
Remotely Starting the Vehicle
Press the button on the remotecontrol.
Within three seconds, press thebutton on the remote control.
Within three seconds, press thebutton again.
Note:You can also use the Lincoln Way Appto start the vehicle.
Note:The direction indicators flash twice.
Note:The parking lamps turn on when thevehicle is running.
Note:The horn sounds if the system fails tostart.
Note:All other vehicle systems remain offwhen you have remotely started the vehicle.
Note:The vehicle remains secured whenyou have remotely started the vehicle. Avalid key must be inside your vehicle toswitch the ignition on and drive your vehicle.

WHAT IS AUTO-START-STOP
The system is designed to help reduce fuelconsumption and CO2 emissions by stopping
the engine when it is idling, for example attraffic lights.
AUTO-START-STOP PRECAUTIONS
WARNING: Apply the parking brake,shift into park (P), switch the ignition offand remove the key before you leave yourvehicle. Failure to follow this instructioncould result in personal injury or death.
WARNING: Apply the parking brake,shift into park (P), switch the ignition offand remove the key before you open thehood or have any service or repair workcompleted. If you do not switch the ignitionoff, the engine could restart at any time.Failure to follow this instruction could resultin personal injury or death.
SWITCHING AUTO-START-STOP
ON AND OFF
Press the driver assistance button on theinstrument panel to access theAuto-Start-Stop feature on the touchscreen.Use the touchscreen to deactivate thefeature. Deactivating the feature lasts onlyone key cycle. Use the touchscreen torestore Auto-Start-Stop function.
STOPPING THE ENGINE
Stop your vehicle, keep your foot on thebrake pedal and the transmission in drive(D).
Note:Power assist steering turns off whenthe engine stops.
RESTARTING THE ENGINE
Release the brake pedal or press theaccelerator pedal.
A message appears in the informationdisplay if the system requires you to takeaction.
AUTO-START-STOP INDICATORS
WARNING: The system may requirethe engine to automatically restart whenthe auto-start-stop indicator illuminatesgreen or flashes amber. Failure to followthis instruction could result in personalinjury.

WARNING: Keep batteries out ofreach of children. Batteries contain sulfuricacid. Avoid contact with skin, eyes orclothing. Shield your eyes when workingnear the battery to protect against possiblesplashing of acid solution. In case of acidcontact with skin or eyes, flush immediatelywith water for a minimum of 15 minutes andget prompt medical attention. If acid isswallowed, call a physician immediately.
WARNING: Use only adequatelysized cables with insulated clamps.
WARNING: Make sure that the cablesare clear of any moving parts and fueldelivery system parts.
WARNING: Connect batteries withonly the same nominal voltage.
WARNING: If the engine is runningwhile the hood is open, stay clear ofmoving engine components. Failure tofollow this warning could result in seriouspersonal injury or death.
Do not attempt to push-start an automatictransmission vehicle. This could causetransmission damage.
Do not disconnect the battery of the disabledvehicle. This could damage your vehicle'selectrical system.
PREPARING THE VEHICLE
Use only a 12 volt supply to start your vehicle.
Park the booster vehicle close to the hoodof the disabled vehicle, making sure the twovehicles do not touch.
JUMP STARTING THE VEHICLE
Connecting the Jumper Cables
WARNING: Do not connect thenegative jumper cable to any other part ofyour vehicle. Use the ground point.
Note:If you are using a jump pack or boosterbox, follow the manufacturer's instructions.
1.Pull the red rubber boot backward.Connect the positive (+) jumper cable tothe positive (+) terminal of the dischargedbattery.
