zIt is the battery to operate the motor andthe air conditioning. In addition to the drive battery, OutlanderPHEV has the auxiliary battery to operatelamps, wipers, etc. zCompact, light-weight lithium ion batterywith high energy density is used for thedrive battery. zThe drive battery has the following char-acteristics.Please read this carefully paying attentionto the following: zThe same as ordinary lithium-ion batter-ies, the battery capacity of the drive bat-tery gradually reduces with time, resultingin reduced cruising range. Depending onthe usage conditions, such as frequentquick acceleration/deceleration,extremely hot weather, storing the vehiclein high ambient temperatures, etc., therate of battery capacity drop will increase.
Refueling (gasoline)
CAUTION zDepending on the opera
ting conditions of
your vehicle, the fuel in the fuel tank maynot be used for a long time and stay in thetank, resulting in deterioration of the fuelquality. As this may af
fect the engine and
fuel system parts, observe the followinginstructions:•Run the engine by pressing the batterycharge switch at least once in 3 months.Refer to “Battery charge switch” on page7-23.• Refuel 20 litres or more of fuel every 6months (to make the total refueling amountin 6 months be 20 litres or more).
zIf refueling of the above
amount is not possi-
ble due to a high fuel level because the vehi-cle has not been used for a long time or forsome other reason, consult a MITSUBISHIMOTORS Authorised Service Point.
Drive battery
WA R N I N G zA sealed lithium ion
high voltage battery
(drive battery) is
adopted for Outlander
PHEV. If the drive battery is disposed ofimproperly, there is a
risk of severe burns
and electrical shock that may result inserious injury or death and there is also arisk of environmental damage.
zNever attempt to use the drive battery forany other purpose.

E00406600465
For infants small enough for infants seats, usea Standards Association of Australiaapproved baby restraint. For small childrenwhose height when seated allows the shoul-der belt to lie in contact with the face or thethroat, a child seat should be used.
E00406700307
Children who have outgrown the childrestraint system should be seated in the rearseat and wear combination lap shoulder belt. The lap portion of the belt should be snug andpositioned low on the abdomen so that it isbelow the top of the hip-bone. Otherwise, thebelt could intrude into the child’s abdomenduring an accident and cause injury.
E00406901931
When fitting a child restraint, always followthe manufacturer’s instructions using theapproved anchorage points shown.
For children too young to sit, use a StandardsAssociation of Australia approved babyrestraint. Be sure to comply with the laws ofyour state regarding restraining children inyour vehicle. There are 3 child restraint anchorage pointslocated on the back of the rear seatbacks.
Infants and small children
WA R N I N G zThe child restraint system should beappropriate for your
child’s weight and
height and properly fit the vehicle. THECHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEM MUSTBE INSTALLED IN THE REAR SEAT. zWhen installing a child restraint system, refer to the instructions provided by themanufacturer of the restraint system.Failure to do so can result in severe orfatal injury to your child. zAfter installation, push and pull the childrestraint system back and forth, and sideto side, to see that it is positively secured. If the child restraint system is not installedsecurely, it may cause injury to the childor other occupants in the case of accidentor sudden stops. zWhen not in use, keep your child or infantseat secured with the seat belt or remove itfrom the vehicle in order to prevent injuryto yourself or
your passengers.
NOTE
zBefore purchasing a child restraint system, try installing it in the rear seat to make surethere is a good fit. Because of the location ofthe seat belt buckles and the shape of the seatcushion, it may be difficult to securely installsome manufacturer’s child restraint systems. If the child restraint system can be pulledforward or to either side easily on the seatcushion after the seat belt has been tightened, choose another manufacturer’s child restraintsystem.

The direction of the headlamp beam (thedirection which the light shines in) altersaccording to the number of people and theload in the vehicle. Lower the headlamp
angle if it is too high due to the number ofpeople and/or the load in the vehicle so thatthe headlamps’ glare does not distract thedrivers of approaching vehicles. First set thelight switch to the “ ” position, then turnthe headlamp levelling switch knob to lowerthe beam. The greater the number on theheadlamp levelling switch knob, the lowerthe beam will point.Set the switch to the appropriate position sothat the headlamp beam is level with the road.

This mechanism automatically adjusts thedirection of the headlamps (beam position)depending on changes in the condition of thevehicle, such as the number of occupants orluggage weight. When the headlamps are illu-minated with the operation mode in ON, thebeam position of the headlamps is automati-cally adjusted when the vehicle is stopped.
•Turn the combination headlamps and dip-per switch to the “ ” or “ ” position.•Put the operation mode in ON. zIt is possible to modify
functions as follows:
•The time that the headlamps remain on canbe changed.•The coming home light function can bedeactivated. For further informati

E00600102220
For economical driving, there are some tech-nical requirements that have to be met. Theprerequisite for low fuel consumption is aproperly adjusted engine. In order to achievelonger life of the vehicle and the most eco-nomical operation, we recommend you tohave the vehicle checked at regular intervalsin accordance with the service standards.Fuel economy and generation of exhaust gasand noise are highly influenced by personaldriving habits as well as the particular operat-ing conditions. The following points shouldbe observed in order to minimize wear ofbrakes, tyres and engine as well as to reduceenvironmental pollution.Av o i d d r i v i n g w h e r e t h e a c c e l e r a t o r p e d a l i spushed way down, such as for unnecessarilysudden starts, acceleration and deceleration.Smoothly depress the accelerator pedal.Observe the speed limit and keep the speed asconstant as possible while driving.
Parking for a long period with the ready indi-cator illuminated will shorten the cruisingrange. At higher the vehicle speed, more drive bat-tery is consumed. Avoid driving at full speed.Even a slight release of the accelerator pedalwill save a significant amount of drive bat-tery.Check the tyre inflation pressures at regularintervals. Low tyre inflation pressureincreases road resistance and fuel consump-tion. In addition, low tyre pressures adverselyaffect tyre wear and driving stability.Do not drive with unnecessary articles in theluggage compartment. Especially during citydriving where frequent starting and stoppingis necessary, the increased weight of the vehi-cle will greatly affect fuel consumption. Also
avoid driving with unnecessary luggage orcarriers, etc., on the roof; the increased airresistance will increase fuel consumption.To o m u c h c o o l i n g / h e a t i n g c a n a ff e c t t h ecruising range, so maintain an appropriatetemperature to extend the cruising range.
E00600200070
Drunk driving is one of the most frequentcauses of accidents.Yo u r d r i v i n g a b i l i t y c a n b e s e r i o u s l y i m p a i r e deven with blood alcohol levels far below thelegal minimum. If you have been drinking,don’t drive. Ride with a designated non-drinking driver, call a cab or a friend, or usepublic transportation. Drinking coffee or tak-ing a cold shower will not make you sober.Similarly, prescription and nonprescriptiondrugs affect your alertness, perception andreaction time. Consult with your doctor orpharmacist before driving while under theinfluence of any of these medications.

When the battery save switch is turned onwhile driving in the battery charge mode, themode changes to the battery save mode.If the battery charge switch is pressed, themode is returned to the battery charge mode.
E00631601051
The Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System(AVAS) is device that uses sound to alertpedestrians of the presence of the vehicle. The system operates when the vehicle speedis about 35 km/h or less and the engine is notrunning. The sound starts when the AVAS is operatedwith the following conditions. zWhen the vehicle speed is about 3 km/h orless with engine not running and the brakepedal is not depressed.
zSince the engine will start also in the vehi-cle stops if the batt
ery charge switch is
pressed, do not use it for the around of thegarage or the vehicle
in the situation such
as snow lay etc. while stopping and park-ing.Doing so, the exhaust gas enters into thevehicle and there is a possibility of becom-ing carbon monoxide poisoning.Be sure to use at the well-ventilated place. zDo not use the battery charge switch nearflammable which a drie
d grass or a paper
etc..There is a possibility of becoming a firebecause the exhaust pipe is high tempera-ture.CAUTION zI left something so as to close the front of thevehicle, do not operate the battery chargerswitch.NOTE
zUse the battery charge switch before theuphill climb. zEven if the battery charge switch is pressed, the battery charge mode may not be activateddepending on the remaining drive batterycapacity or the remaining fuel quantity andthe control.WA R N I N G
zIt is recommended to use the battery charg-ing switch before at least 20 minutes, if youclimb to continue the speed of more than100km/h or the long slope (gradient of morethan 4 %) is expected. (According to a tow-ing weight, it may not be able to continue thespeed.) zWhen using the battery charge switch a longtime with vehicle
stopping under high tem-
perature, it may not be charged. zThe charging time close to full charge of thedrive battery becomes longer depending onthe condition of the drive battery, a drivingcondition or a environment. zThe engine may stop near full charge. zIf you press the battery charge switch, inorder to generate elec
tricity using gasoline,
the fuel consumption will suffer.We r e c o m m e n d y o u u s e c o n s i d e r e d e n v i r o n -ment. zWhen the engine is started while parking,there is a risk of penalties related to idlingstop ordinance.Yo u s h o u l d u s e t h e b a t t e r y c h a r g e s w i t c hwith confirming to the relevant municipality.Also, if the engine is started, in order to con-sume gasoline, be careful not to cause nofuel.NOTE
