1
Essential Safety Equipment
Pregnant women should always wear seat belts. Ask your doctor for
specific recommendations.
The lap belt should be worn
SNUGLY AND AS LOW AS POS-
SIBLE OVER THE HIPS. The
shoulder belt should be worn
across your shoulder properly, but
never across the stomach area.
Persons with serious medical cond itions also should wear seat belts.
Check with your doctor for any special instructions regarding s pecific
medical conditions.
NOTICE
Pregnant Women and Persons wit h Serious Medical Conditions
Belt retraction may become difficult if the
belts and rings are soiled, so try to keep
them clean. For more details about
cleaning the seat belts, refer to “Cleaning
the Lap/Shoulder Belt Webbing”

2-9. Driving Tips
Winter Driving
Carry emergency gear, including tire chains, window scraper, flares, a
small shovel, jumper cables, and a small bag of sand or salt.
Ask your Toyota dealer to check the following:
• Have the proper ratio of ant ifreeze in the radiator.
Refer to Engine Coolant on P. 398.
• Inspect the battery and its cabl es. Cold reduces battery capacity.
• Use an engine oil appropriate for the lowest ambient temperatures that the vehicle w ill be driven in (P. 395).
• Inspect the ignition system for damage and loose connections.
• Use washer fluid made with antifreeze but do not use engine cool-
ant antifreeze for washer fluid ( P. 402).
●Do not use the parking brake in freezing weather as it may freeze. Instead,
shift to 1 or R with a manual transaxle and to P with an automa tic transaxle.
Block the rear wheels.
● Remove snow before driving. Snow left on the windshield is dang erous as it
could obstruct vision.
● Do not apply excessive force to a window scraper when removing ice or fro-
zen snow on the mirror glass and windshield.
● Never use warm or hot water for removing snow or ice from windo ws and
mirrors as it could result in the glass cracking.
● Drive slowly. Braking performance can be adversely affected if snow or ice
adheres to the brake components. If this situation occurs, drive the vehicle
slowly, releasing the accelerator pedal and lightly applying the brakes sev-
eral times until the brake performance returns to normal.

2313-10. Active Safety System
3
When Driving
WARNING
■Do not rely on the Low Speed Pre -Collision System as a substitute for
safer driving
The Low Speed Pre-Collision System cannot compensate for unsafe and
reckless driving, excessive speed, tailgating (following anothe r vehicle too
closely), and driving on slippery roads such as wet, snowy, and icy roads
(reduced tire friction and road contact because of water on the road sur-
face). You can still have an accident.
■ Do not rely completely on the Low Speed Pre-Collision System
● The Low Speed Pre-Collision System is only designed to reduce d amage
in the event of a collision. Over reliance on the system leadin g to the
accelerator pedal or brake pedal being mistakenly operated coul d result in
an accident.
● The Low Speed Pre-Collision System is a system which operates in
response to a vehicle ahead. The system may not be able to detect or
react to two-wheeled vehicles or pedestrians.
● The laser sensor for the Low Speed Pre-Collision System is inst alled near
the rearview mirror. To assure the correct operation of the Low Speed Pre-
Collision System, heed the following cautions.
• Do not apply stickers to the surface of the windshield near the laser sensor (including transparent stickers). Otherwise, the laser s ensor
may not be able to detect vehicles ahead which could result in an acci-
dent.
• Do not apply coating agent to the windshield. Otherwise, the l aser sen-
sor may not be able to detect vehicles or obstructions in front which
could result in an accident.
• Do not disassemble the laser sensor.
• If cracks or damage caused by flying gravel or debris is visib le near
the laser sensor, stop using the Low Speed Pre-Collision System
immediately and have your vehicle inspected by your Toyota deal er. If
the vehicle continues to be driven with cracks or scratch marks left on
the windshield near the laser sensor, the system may operate un nec-
essarily and cause an unexpected accident.
Refer to Stopping The Low Speed Pre-Collision System Operation on
P. 2 3 3 .
• When replacing the windshield wi pers or windshield, consult your
Toyota dealer.
● The laser sensor includes a function for detecting a soiled windshield and
informing the driver, however, depending on the conditions, it may not
detect plastic shopping bags, ice or snow on the windshield. In such
cases, the system cannot accurately determine a vehicle ahead a nd may
not be able to operate normally. Always drive carefully and pay attention to
the road ahead.

Oil Change
Setting Inter-
val
The oil replacement period can be
selected from the flexible setting or fixed
setting, or it can be set to non-display.
The flexible setting is available only in the
United States and Puerto Rico. Once
engine oil flexible maintenance is
selected, the vehicle calculates the
remaining oil life based on the engine
operating conditions. The vehicle lets you
know when an oil change is due by illumi-
nating the wrench indicator light in the
combination meter. Toyota Genuine
Motor Oil or equivalent are required to
achieve optimum performance.
Distance (mile
or km)
(Displays only
in fixed set-
ting)
Displays the distance until the oil replace-
ment is due.
Select this item to set the oil replacement
distance.
“Oil Change Due!” is displayed in red and
the wrench indicator light in the combina-
tion meter will be illuminated when the
remaining distance is less than 250 miles
or 500 km.
Oil life (%)
(Displays only
in flexible set-
ting)
Displays the engine oil life until the oil
replacement is due.
“Oil Change Due!” is displayed in red and
the wrench indicator light in the combina-
tion meter will be illuminated when the
remaining oil life distance is less than
250 miles (500 km), or remaining days
are less than 15 (whichever comes first).
Reset
In flexible setting:
Resets the remaining oil life to 100%.
In fixed setting:
Resets the remaining distance to the ini-
tial value.
Once the Flexible Oil Maintenance Set-
ting is selected, the system must be reset
whenever replacing the engine oil.
