Adjustmen t

Reassembly (cont'd)
CYLINDER END SEAL
Replace.
VINYL TAPE
19. Remove the vinyl tape from the steering rack, then
push in the cylinder end seal with your finger.
NOTE:
• Remove any residue of tape adhesive.
• Take care not to damage the cylinder end seal
with the threads and burrs at the staked position
of the gearbox.
20. Install special to the steering gearbox, then clamp
the tool in a vise with soft jaws as shown.
CAUTION: Do not clamp the cylinder housing.
PULLER YOKE:
(Commercially available)
Snap-On® T/N CJ123-1
OTC® T/N 7372
or equivalent
21. Coat the inside surface of the cylinder end with
power steering fluid, then install the cylinder end by
screwing it into the cylinder housing.
22. Remove the puller yoke from the steering gearbox.
23. After tightening the cylinder end, stake the point of
the cylinder housing shown below.
NOTE: Stake the cylinder in the position opposite
from where the stake was removed during disas-
sembly.

the bushing when inserting
the cylinder end.

STEERING GEARBOX
16. Wrap vinyl tape around the rack end edges, and
coat the surface of the tape with the power steering
fluid.
NOTE: Make sure that the vinyl tape is wrapped care-
fully so that there is no stepped portion.
17. Coat the inside surface of the new cylinder end seal
with power steering fluid.
18. Install the cylinder end seal onto the steering rack
with its grooved side toward the piston.
CAUTION: When installing the cylinder end seal,
be careful not to damage the sealing lip face of the
seal with the edges of the steering rack.
Staked position.

Ignition Timing :

(ther e i s n o wa y t o adjus t ignitio n timing) .
7 . Disconnec t th e specia l too l fro m th e servic e chec k
connector .

Alternator Replacemen t
1. Mak e sur e yo u hav e th e anti-thef t cod e fo r th e radio ,
the n writ e dow n th e frequencie s fo r th e radio' s pre -
set buttons .
2. Disconnec t th e batter y negativ e cable , the n discon -
nec t th e positiv e cable .
3 . Remov e th e lowe r mountin g bolt , adjustin g loc k
bol t an d adjustin g rod , the n remov e th e bel t fro m
th e pulley . 4
. A s show n i n th e illustration , rotat e th e alternato r 9 0
degree s counterclockwis e an d pul l i t ou t towar d you .
5 . Disconnec t th e 4 P connecto r an d th e harnes s cli p
bracket , the n remov e th e termina l nu t an d th e BL K
wir e fro m th e B terminal . Tak e ou t th e alternator .
6 . Instal l i n th e revers e orde r o f removal .
7 . Adjus t th e alternato r bel t tensio n (se e pag e 23-89 ).
8 . Ente r th e anti-theft code fo r th e radio , the n ente r th e
customer' s radi o statio n presets .

and groun d it wit h a jumpe r wire .
4. Tur n th e ignitio n switc h O N (II) . Chec k tha t th e
pointe r o f th e EC T gaug e start s movin g towar d th e
"H " mark .
CAUTION : Tur n th e ignitio n switc h OF F befor e th e
pointe r reache s "H " o n th e gaug e dial . Failur e to d o
s o ma y damag e th e gauge .
• I f th e pointe r o f th e gaug e doe s no t mov e a t all ,
chec k fo r a n ope n in th e YEL/GR N wire .
I f th e wire s ar e OK , replac e th e EC T gauge .
• I f th e EC T gaug e works , tes t th e EC T sendin g
unit.
4. I f th e obtaine d reading s ar e substantiall y differen t
fro m th e specification s above , inspec t th e coolan t
leve l an d th e coolin g system . I f th e coolin g syste m
i s OK , replac e th e sendin g unit .

tanc e betwee n th e positiv e termina l an d th e engine
