The keyless access system has f our
power modes: VEHICLE OFF
(LOCK), ACCESSORY, ON, and
START.
This system uses the engine start/
stop button instead of an ignition
switch to start and stop the engine. If
you are carrying the keyless access
remote, you can start the engine by
pressing the engine start/stop
button with the brake pedal
(automatic transmission) or the
clutch pedal (manual transmission)
depressed. You can also stop the
engine by pushing this button when
the vehicle is stopped. Each time you press the engine
start/stop button without pressing
the brake pedal (automatic
transmission) or the clutch pedal
(manual transmission) while
carrying the keyless access remote,
the power mode switches between
VEHICLE OFF (LOCK),
ACCESSORY, and ON.
You can start the engine at any time
by pressing the engine start/stop
button, while pressing the brake
pedal, with the shift lever in Park or
neutral position.
You can start the engine at any time
by pressing the engine start/stopbutton, while pressing the clutch
pedal f ully, with the shif t lever in any
gear position.
To change the power mode without
turning on the engine, press the
engine start/stop button without
pressing the brake pedal (automatic
transmission) or the clutch pedal
(manual transmission). The power
mode will be changed as shown on
the next page.

Do the following without pressing the brake pedal. VEHICLE OFF (LOCK)
Indicator in the button is off.
ACCESSORY
Indicator in the button comes on green.
Some electrical components such as the
audio system and accessory power sockets
can be operated.
ON
Indicator in the button remains green when
the engine is not running.
(If the engine is running,this indicator is off.)
All electrical components can be used.

How the mode is switched depends
on if the shif t lever is in Park or not.Each time you press the engine
start/stop button without pressing
the clutch pedal, the power mode
switches between VEHICLE OFF
(LOCK), ACCESSORY, and ON
modes. To change the mode f rom
ON to ACCESSORY, or
ACCESSORY to VEHICLE OFF
(LOCK), press the engine start/stop
button twice. If the keyless access system
main switch in the glove box is of f ,
make sure to insert the keyless
access remote into the keyless
access slot to turn on your vehicle’s
power mode. For more inf ormation,
ref er to page .
To remove the keyless access
remote from the slot, make sure the
power mode is VEHICLE OFF
(LOCK).
With the shift lever in Park, the
power mode changes f rom ON to
VEHICLE OFF (LOCK) when you
push the engine start/stop button.

You can start the engine in any
power mode.
To start the engine:Depress the brake pedal and press
the engine start/stop button. Move the shift lever to Park (P). Af ter you unlock and open the
driver’s door, you will see the ‘‘TO
START ENGINE:’’ message on the
multi-inf ormation display. The ‘‘TO
TURN ACCESSORY ON:’’ message
will be shown af ter three seconds.
The display switches between the
‘‘TO START ENGINE:’’ and ‘‘TO
TURN ACCESSORY ON:’’ messages
every three seconds.
Apply the parking brake.
Press the clutch pedal down all the
way.
The engine does not start unless
the clutch pedal is pressed.
Press the engine start/stop button.

To turn the vehicle off, make sure
the vehicle is completely stopped and
do the f ollowing.If the shif t lever is in any gear
other than neutral, depress the
clutch pedal, then press the engine
start/stop button.
The engine stops and the power
mode switches f rom ON to
VEHICLE OFF (LOCK).
Bef ore leaving the vehicle, make
sure it is of f . You can verif y if the
power is of f by checking the engine
start/stop button LED indicator. You can only place the vehicle in the
VEHICLE OFF (LOCK) mode if the
transmission is in Park. You will see
the ‘‘SHIFT TO PARK’’ message on
the multi-information display if you
press the engine start/stop button to
turn the vehicle of f with the shif t
lever in any other position except f or
P(Park).
If the shift lever is in neutral, press
the engine start/stop button.
Press the engine start/stop button
with your f oot on the brake pedal. Shif t to park (P). Make sure to press the brake pedal
or set the parking brake before
turning off the engine. If your foot
is OFF the clutch pedal in any gear
position, pressing the engine start/
stop button turns off the engine,
and the vehicle may move forward
or backward.

If the power mode is in ACCESSORY,
you may see the ‘‘ACCESSORY
MODE’’ message on the multi-
inf ormation display.Af ter the driver’s door is opened, you

You can increase the set cruising
speed in any of these ways:Press and hold the RES/ACCEL
button. When you reach the
desired cruising speed, release the
button. You can decrease the set cruising
speed in any of these ways:
To increase the speed in very
small amounts, tap the RES/
ACCEL button. Each time you do
this, your vehicle speeds up about
1 mph (1.6 km/h). Push on the accelerator pedal.
Accelerate to the desired cruising
speed, then press the SET/
DECEL button. Even with cruise control turned on,
you can still use the accelerator
pedal to speed up f or passing. Af ter
completing the pass, take your foot
of f the accelerator pedal. The vehicle
will return to the set cruising speed.
To slow down in very small
amounts, tap the SET/DECEL
button. Each time you do this,
your vehicle will slow down about
1 mph (1.6 km/h). Press and hold the SET/DECEL
button. Release the button when
you reach the desired speed. If you need to decrease your
speed quickly, use the brakes as you
normally would.
Tap the brake or clutch pedal
lightly with your f oot. The
CRUISE CONTROL indicator on
the instrument panel will go out.
When the vehicle slows to the
desired speed, press the SET/
DECEL button. Resting your f oot on the brake or
clutch pedal causes the cruise
control to cancel.

Push the CANCEL button on the
steering wheel.
You can cancel cruise control in any
of these ways:
Push the CRUISE button on the
steering wheel. Pressing the CRUISE button turns
the system completely of f and erases
the previous cruising speed.
Tap the brake or clutch pedal. When you push the CANCEL button,
or tap the brake or clutch pedal, the
system will remember the previously
set cruising speed. To return to that
speed, accelerate to above 25 mph
(40 km/h), and then press and
release the RES/ACCEL button. The
CRUISE CONTROL indicator comes
on. The vehicle will accelerate to the

If you hold the engine start/stop
button for more than 7 seconds,
the starter motor, depending on
the outside temperature, runs f orabout10to25secondsuntilthe
engine starts.
Without touching the accelerator
pedal, push and release the engine
start/stop button. You do not need
to hold the engine start/stop
button to start the engine.
Depending on the outside
temperature, the starter motor
runs f or about 6 to 9 seconds until
the engine starts. The keyless access remote battery
becomes weak or dead. The keyless access remote system
main switch is of f .
In either of the f ollowing cases, you
should insert the keyless access
remote into the keyless remote slot.

and . If the engine does not start, wait at
least 10 seconds bef ore trying
again.
Your vehicle’s starting system has an
auto control mode. When you have
your keyless access remote and push
the engine start/stop button while
depressing the brake pedal (A/T) or
clutch pedal (M/T), this f eature
keeps the engine’s starter motor
running until the engine starts.
Follow these instructions to start the
engine:
Make sure the shif t lever is in
Park. Press on the brake pedal. Press the clutch pedal down all the
way. The power mode f rom ON to
START does not f unction unless
the clutch pedal is pressed. In cold weather, turn of f all
electrical accessories to reduce
the drain on the battery. Apply the parking brake.

T he immobilizer system protects your
vehicle f rom thef t. If an improperly
coded keyless access remote (or other
device) is used, the engine’s f uel system
is disabled. For more inf ormation, see
page .
The engine is harder to start in cold
weather. Also, the thinner air f ound at
altitudes above 8,000 f eet (2,400
meters) adds to this problem. 143

If you cannot start the engine using
the normal engine start procedure,
do the f ollowing:Set the parking brake.
If there is a problem with the
starting system, you will see a
‘‘CHECK STARTING SYSTEM’’
message on the multi-inf ormation
display with the power mode ON.
You will also see this message when
the auto control mode of the starting
system has a problem. If this message is on, you should
press and hold the engine start/stop
button until the engine starts. The
engine start/stop button can be
pressedupto15seconds.
Even though you may be able to
start the engine manually without
the auto control mode of the starting
system, have your vehicle inspected
by a dealer.
Your vehicle has the engine start/
stop button instead of an ignition
switch to select the power mode. For
more information, see page .
Do not f ollow this procedure unless
it is a case of emergency. Even if you
can start the engine using this
method, the system may have a
malf unction. Contact your dealer as
soon as possible.Press and hold the engine start/
stop button f or about 15 seconds
while pressing the brake pedal
(automatic) or the clutch pedal
(manual). Press the engine start/stop button
to turn on the ACCESSORY mode. Put the shif t lever into Park.
