Anewvehiclemustbebrokeninwithinthefirst
1,000miles(1,500km)sothatallmovingparts
worksmoothlytogether,whichhelpsto increase
theservicelifeoftheengine.
Donotdrivehigherthantwo-thirds ofthemaxi-
mumpermittedengineRPMduringthefirst600
miles(1,000km)and donotusefullaccelera-
tion.TheenginecanbeincreasedRPMgradually
duringthenext300miles(500km).
Reducingthe riskofvehicledamage

Whendrivingonpoorroads,overcurbs,and
onsteepramps,makesurethatcomponents
thathang belowthevehicle,suchasthespoil-
erandexhaustsystem,arenotstruckbecause
theycouldbedamaged.Thisespeciallyap-
pliestovehicleswithlowgroundclearance
andvehiclesthatareheavilyloaded.
Drivingthroughwateronroads
Notethefollowingtoreducetheriskofvehicle
damagewhendrivingthroughwater,forexample
onfloodedroads:
—Thewatermustnotbeanyhigherthanthebot-
tomofthevehiclebody.
—Donotdrivefasterthanwalkingspeed.

tivenessofthebrakesmaybereduceddueto
moistureonthebrakerotorsandbrakepads.

—Donotlettheenginerunwhilethevehicle
parked.
—Turnoffelectricalequipmentthatisnotneed-
ed, forexampleseatheating*.
—Anticipateupcomingtrafficsituationswhile

—Utilizetheenginebrakingeffect.

Afterreleasingthebrakepedal,thebrakingpow-

Sportydriving
Appliesto:RSmodels
Whendrivinginasportystyle,forexampleona
drivingtrack,thewearonallvehiclecomponents
isgreatlyincreased,especiallyontheengine,
transmission,tires,brakes,andsuspension.This
canresultinincreasedwear.Alsonotethefol-
lowingpoints:
—Makesurethevehicleisingoodcondition.
Makesuretocheckthebrakepads,tiretread,
andtirepressure(whentiresarewarm).
—Beforehand,warmuptheenginebydrivingno
higherthantwo-thirdsofthemaximumpermit-
tedengineRPM.Theengineoiltemperature
mustbebroughttoaminimumof140°F
(60°C).
