Coasting Concept
The function helps to conserve fuel.
To do this, under certain conditions the engine is
automatically decoupled from the transmission
when selector lever position D is set. The vehicle
continues traveling with the engine idling to rej
duce fuel consumption. Selector lever position D
remains engaged.
This driving condition is referred to as coasting.
As soon as you step on the brake or accelerator
pedal, the engine is automatically coupled again.
Generalinformation Coasting is a component of the ECO PRO drivj
ing mode.
Coasting is automatically activated when ECO
PRO mode is called via the Driving Dynamics
Control.
The function is available in a certain speed range. A proactive driving style helps the driver to use
the function often and supports the fuel-conj
serving effect of coasting.
Functionalrequirements
In ECO PRO mode, this function is available in a
speed range from approximately

RefuelingVehiclefeaturesandoptions
This chapter describes all standard, country-spejcific and optional features offered with the series. It also describes features that are not necessarilyavailable in your vehicle, e. g., due to the selectedoptions or country versions. This also applies to
safety-related functions and systems. When usj
ing these functions and systems, the applicable laws and regulations must be observed.
Generalinformation
Follow the fuel recommendation, refer to
page 238, prior to refueling.
Safetyinformation
NOTE
With a driving range of less than
30 miles/50 km the engine may no longer have
sufficient fuel. Engine functions are not enj
sured anymore. There is a risk of damage to
property. Refuel promptly.
Fuelcap
Opening
1.Briefly press the rear edge of the fuel filler
flap.2.Turn the fuel cap counterclockwise.3.Place the fuel cap in the bracket attached to
the fuel filler flap.Seite 236MOBILITYRefueling236

Closing
WARNING
The retaining strap of the fuel cap can be jamj
med and crushed during closing. The cap canj not be correctly closed. Fuel or fuel vapors can
escape. There is a risk of injury or risk of damj
age to property. Pay attention that the retaining
strap is not jammed or crushed when closing
the cap.
1.Fit the cap and turn it clockwise until you
clearly hear a click.2.Close the fuel filler flap.
Manuallyunlockingfuelfillerflap
E.g., in the event of an electrical malfunction.
Have fuel filler flap unlocked by a dealerss service
center or another qualified service center or rej
pair shop.
Followthefollowingwhen refueling
Generalinformation When refueling, insert the filler nozzle completelyinto the filler pipe. Lifting up the fuel pump nozzle
during refueling causes:
'xPremature switching off.'xReduced return of the fuel vapors.
The fuel tank is full when the filler nozzle clicks
off the first time.
Make sure that the fuel cap is closed properly afj ter refueling, otherwise the emissions warning
light may light up.
Follow safety regulations posted at the gas staj
tion.
Safetyinformation
NOTE
Fuels are toxic and aggressive. Overfilling of the fuel tank can damage the fuel system. Painted
surfaces may be damaged by contact with fuel.
Escaping fuel can harm the environment. There
is a risk of damage to property. Avoid overfilling.

safety-related functions and systems. When usj
ing these functions and systems, the applicable laws and regulations must be observed.
Fuelrecommendation
Generalinformation Depending on the region, many gas stations sellfuel that has been customized to winter orsummer conditions. Fuel that is available in winjter, for instance helps make a cold start easier.
Gasoline Generalinformation
For the best fuel efficiency, the gasoline should
be sulfur-free or very low in sulfur content.
Fuels that are marked on the gas pump as conj
taining metal must not be used.
Fuels with a maximum ethanol content of 10 %,
i. e., E10, may be used for refueling.
Ethanol should meet the following quality stanj dards:
US: ASTM 4806mxx
CAN: CGSB-3.511mxx
xx: comply with the current standard in each
case.
Safetyinformation
NOTE
Do not press the Start/Stop button after refuelj
ing with the wrong fuel. Furthermore, the cataj lytic converter is permanently damaged. There
is a risk of damage to property. Do not refuel or
add the following in the case of gasoline enj
gines:
'xLeaded gasoline.'xMetallic additives, for instance manganese
or iron.
Do not press the Start/Stop button after refuelj
ing with the wrong fuel. Contact a dealerss servj
ice center or another qualified service center or
repair shop.
NOTE
Incorrect fuels can damage the fuel system and
the engine. There is a risk of damage to propj erty. Do not use fuels with a higher percentageof ethanol than recommended. Do not refuel
with fuels containing methanol, e.g. M5 to
M100.
NOTE
Fuel that does not comply with the minimum quality can compromise engine function or
cause engine damage. There is a risk of damj
age to property. Do not fill with fuel that does
not comply with the minimum quality.

CAUTION
The use of poor-quality fuels may result in
harmful engine deposits or damage. Additionj
ally, problems relating to drivability, starting and stalling, especially under certain environmentalconditions such as high ambient temperature
and high altitude, may occur.
If drivability problems are encountered, we recj
ommend switching to a high quality gasoline
brand and a higher octane grade n AKI numj
ber n for a few tank fills. To avoid harmful enj
gine deposits, it is highly recommended to purj
chase gasoline from Top Tier retailers.
Failure to comply with these recommendations
may result in the need for unscheduled maintej
nance.
Recommendedfuelgrade
BMW recommends AKI 91.
Minimumfuelgrade
BMW recommends AKI 89.
If you use gasoline with this minimum AKI Rating,
the engine may produce knocking sounds when
starting at high external temperatures. This has
no effect on the engine life.

Tireinflationpressure
Generalinformation The tire inflation pressure and tire characteristics
influence the following:
'xThe service life of the tires.'xRoad safety.'xDriving comfort.'xDriving dynamics.'xFuel consumption.
Safetyinformation
WARNING
A tire with too little or no tire inflation pressure
may heat up significantly and sustain damage.
This will have a negative impact on aspects of handling, such as steering and braking rej
sponse. There is a risk of an accident. Regularly
check the tire inflation pressure, and correct it as needed, for instance twice a month and bej
fore a long trip.
Tireinflationpressure
specifications
Inthetireinflationpressuretable The tire inflation pressure table, refer to
page 241, contains all tire inflation pressure
specifications for the specified tire sizes at the
ambient temperature. The tire inflation pressure
values apply to tire sizes approved by the manuj
facturer of the vehicle for the vehicle type.
To identify the correct tire inflation pressure,
please note the following:'xTire sizes of your vehicle.'xMaximum permitted driving speed.
Checkingthetireinflation
pressure
Generalinformation
Tires heat up while driving. The tire inflation
pressure increases with the tire temperature.
Tires have a natural, consistent loss of tire inflajtion pressure.
The displays of inflation devices may under-read
by up to 0.1 bar/2 psi.
Checkingusingtireinflation
pressurespecificationsinthetire
inflationpressuretable
The tire inflation pressure specifications in the tire inflation pressure table only relate to cold
tires or tires at the same temperature as the amj bient temperature.
Only check the tire inflation pressure levels when
the tires are cold, i.e.:
'xDriving range of max. 1.25 miles/2 km has not
been exceeded.Seite 240MOBILITYWheelsandtires240
