The engine oil level is displayed.
Systemlimits When making frequent short-distance trips orusing a dynamic driving style, it may not be posjsible to calculate a measured value. In this case,
the measured value for the last, sufficiently long trip is displayed.
Detailedmeasurement
Concept The engine oil level is checked when the vehicleis stationary and displayed via a scale.
If the engine oil level is outside its permissible
operating range, a Check Control message is
displayed.
Generalinformation
During the measurement, the idle speed is inj creased somewhat.

property. Immediately add engine oil.
NOTE
Too much engine oil can damage the engine or
the catalytic converter. There is a risk of damj
age to property. Do not add too much engine
oil. When too much engine oil is added, have the engine oil level corrected by a dealerss servjice center or another qualified service center or
repair shop.
Overview
The oil filler neck is located in the engine comj
partment, refer to page 227.
Addingengineoil
1.Open the hood, refer to page 228.2.Open the lid counterclockwise.3.Add engine oil.4.Close the cap.

Generalinformation
The engine oil quality is critical for the life of the
engine.
Only add the types of engine oil which are listed.
Safetyinformation
NOTE
Oil additives can damage the engine. There is a risk of damage to property. Do not use oil addijtives.
NOTE
Incorrect engine oil can cause malfunctions in the engine or damage it. There is a risk of damj
age to property. When selecting an engine oil,
make sure that the engine oil has the correct oil
rating.
Suitableengineoiltypes
Add engine oils that meet the following oil rating
standards:

CoolantVehiclefeaturesandoptions
This chapter describes all standard, country-spejcific and optional features offered with the series. It also describes features that are not necessarilyavailable in your vehicle, e. g., due to the selectedoptions or country versions. This also applies to
safety-related functions and systems. When usj
ing these functions and systems, the applicable laws and regulations must be observed.
Generalinformation
Not all commercially available additives are suitaj
ble for the vehicle. Information about suitable adj ditives is available from a dealerss service centeror another qualified service center or repair shop.
Safetyinformation
WARNING
With the engine hot and the cooling system
open, coolant can escape and lead to scalding.
There is a risk of injury. Only open the cooling
system with the engine cooled down.
WARNING
Additives are harmful and incorrect additives can damage the engine. There is a risk of injury
and risk of damage to property. Do not allow
additives to come into contact with skin, eyes
or articles of clothing. Use suitable additives
only.
Coolantlevel
Checking
1.Let the engine cool.2.Open the hood.3.Turn the lid of the coolant reservoir slightly
counterclockwise to allow any excess presj
sure to dissipate, then open it.4.Open the coolant reservoir lid.5.The coolant level is correct if it lies between the minimum and maximum marks in the filler
neck.Seite 234MOBILITYCoolant234

Adding1.Let the engine cool.2.Turn the lid of the coolant reservoir slightly
counterclockwise to allow any excess presj
sure to dissipate, then open it.3.If the coolant is low, slowly add coolant up to
the specified level; do not overfill.4.Turn the lid until there is an audible click. The
arrows on the coolant reservoir and the lid
must point towards one another.5.Have the cause of the coolant loss eliminated as soon as possible.

BMWmaintenancesystem
The maintenance system indicates required maintenance measures, and thereby providessupport in maintaining road safety and the operajtional reliability of the vehicle.
In some cases, scopes and intervals of the mainj
tenance system may vary according to the counj try version. Replacement work, spare parts, fuels
and lubricants, and wear materials are calculated
separately. Further information is available from a
dealerss service center or another qualified servj
ice center or repair shop.
ConditionBasedServiceCBS
Concept
Sensors and special algorithms take into account the driving conditions of the vehicle. CBS uses
these to calculate the need for maintenance.
The system makes it possible to adapt the
amount of maintenance corresponding to your
user profile.
Generalinformation
Information on service requirements, refer to
page 125, can be displayed on the Control Disj
play.
Servicedataintheremote
control
Information on the required maintenance is conjtinuously stored in the remote control. The dealjerss service center can read this data out and
suggest a maintenance scope for the vehicle.
Therefore, hand the service advisor the remote
control with which the vehicle was driven most recently.
Storageperiods Storage periods during which the vehicle battery
was disconnected are not taken into account.
If this occurs, have a dealer's service center or
another qualified service center or repair shop update the time-dependent maintenance procejdures, such as checking brake fluid and, if necesj
sary, changing the engine oil and the microfilter/ activated-charcoal filter.

Generalinformation
Devices connected at the OBD socket trigger
the alarm system when the vehicle is locked. Rej move any devices connected at the OBD socket
before locking the vehicle.
Safetyinformation
NOTE
The socket for Onboard Diagnosis is an intrij
cate component intended to be used in conj
junction with specialized equipment to check
the vehicless primary emissions system. Imj
proper use of the socket for Onboard Diagnoj
sis, or contact with the socket for Onboard Dij
agnosis for other than its intended purpose,
can cause vehicle malfunctions and creates
risks of personal and property damage. Given
the foregoing, the manufacture of your vehicle
strongly recommends that access to the socket
for Onboard Diagnosis be limited to a dealer's
service center or another qualified service cenj
ter or repair shop or other persons that have
the specialized training and equipment for purj
poses of properly utilizing the socket for Onj
board Diagnosis.
Position
There is an OBD socket on the driver's side for checking the primary components in the vehij
cle's emissions.
Emissions
'xThe warning light lights up:
Emissions are deteriorating. Have the vehicle checked as soon as possible.'xThe warning light flashes under certain cirj
cumstances:
This indicates that there is excessive misfiring in the engine.
Reduce the vehicle speed and have the sysj
tem checked immediately; otherwise, serious
engine misfiring within a brief period can serij
ously damage emission control components, in particular the catalytic converter.Seite 237MaintenanceMOBILITY237

These light-emitting diodes are related to conj
ventional lasers and are officially designated as Class 1 light-emitting diodes.
Follow the safety information, refer to page 239.
Safetyinformation Lightsandbulbs
WARNING
Bulbs can get hot during operation. Contact
with the bulbs can cause burns. There is a risk of injury. Only change bulbs after they have
cooled off.
WARNING
Work on switched-on lighting systems can cause short circuits. There is a risk of injury or
risk of damage to property. When working on
the lighting system, switch off the lights in
question. If necessary, heed the bulb manufacj
turer's instructions.
NOTE
Dirty bulbs have a reduced service life. There is
a risk of damage to property. Do not hold new
bulbs with your bare hands. Use a clean cloth
or something similar, or hold the bulb by its
base.
Light-emittingdiodes(LEDs)
WARNING
Intensive brightness can irritate or damage the retina of the eye. There is a risk of injury. Do not
look directly into the headlights or other light
sources. Do not remove the LED covers.
Headlightglass
Condensation can form on the inside of the exj
ternal lights in cool or humid weather. When drivj ing with the lights switched on, the condensationevaporates after a short time. The headlightglass does not need to be changed.
If despite driving with the headlights switched on, increasing humidity forms, for instance water
