12 V battery
The battery is located under the bonnet.
For access to the (+) terminal: )release the bonnet using the interior lever,
then the exterior safety catch, )raise the bonnet and secure it with its stay, )lift the plastic cover for access to the (+)
terminal.
Access to the battery

Procedure for star ting the engine using another battery or charging a discharged battery.
The presence of this label, in particular with the Stop & Start system, indicatesthe use of a 12 V lead-acid battery withspecial technology and specification;the involvement of a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop is essential when replacing or disconnecting the battery.

After refitting the battery, the Stop & Start system will only be active after acontinuous period of immobilisation of thevehicle, a period which depends on theclimatic conditions and the state of chargeof the battery (up to about 8 hours).
When your vehicle's battery is discharged, the engine can be star ted using a slave battery (external or on another vehicle) and jump leadcables.
Starting using another
batter
y
) Connect the red cable to the positive
terminal (+) of the flat battery A, then to the
positive terminal (+) of the slave battery B.) Connect one end of the green or blackcable to the negative terminal (-) of the slave battery B
(or ear th point on the other
vehicle).) Connect the other end of the green or black cable to the ear th point Con the broken
down vehicle (or on the engine mounting). ) Start the engine of the vehicle with the good battery and leave it running for a few minutes.

First check that the slave battery has a nominal voltage of 12 V and a capacity at least equal to that of the discharged battery. Do not try to star t the engine byconnecting a battery charger.
Do not disconnect the (+) terminal when the engine is running.
Before doing any work
Immobilise the vehicle: apply the parking brake, put the gearbox in neutral, then switch off the ignition.Check that all electrical equipment isswitched off.

Practical information
The batteries contain harmful substancessuch as sulphuric acid and lead. They
must be disposed of in accordance with regulations and must not, in anycircumstances, be discarded with household waste. Take used remote control batteries and vehicle batteries to a special collection point.

Protect your eyes and face before handling the battery.
All operations on the battery must becarried out in a well ventilated area andaway from naked flames and sourcesof sparks, so as to avoid the risk of explosion or fire.
Do not try to charge a frozen battery;the battery must first be thawed out to avoid the risk of explosion. If the batteryhas been frozen, before charging have it checked by a CITROËN dealer or aqualified workshop who will check that the internal components have not beendamaged and the casing is not cracked, which could cause a leak of toxic and corrosive acid.
Do not reverse the polarity and use onlya 12 V charger.
Do not disconnect the terminals whilethe engine is running. Do not charge the batteries withoutdisconnecting the terminals first.
Wash your hands afterwards.
It is advisable to disconnect the battery if the vehicle is to be left unused for more than one month.
Do not push the vehicle to star t the engine if you have an electronicgearbox or automatic gearbox.

Charging the battery using
a battery charger
)Disconnect the battery from the vehicle.)Follow the instructions for use provided by
the manufacturer of the charger.)Connect the battery starting with thenegative terminal (-).)Check that the terminals and connectorsare clean. If they are covered with sulphate (whitish or greenish deposit), remove themand clean them.

The Stop & Start battery does not haveto be disconnected for charging.

Checks

Bonnet
Open the left hand front door.

Do not open the bonnet under verywindy conditions. When the engine is hot, handle the exterior safety catch and the stay with care (risk of burns), using the protected area.
)
Lift the safety catch and raise the bonnet.

)Unclip the stay from its housing and place it
in the support slot to hold the bonnet open.

Opening
)Pull the release lever, located at the bottom
of the door aper ture, towards you.
Before doing anything under the bonnet, switch off the Stop & Start system toavoid any risk of injury resulting from anautomatic change to START mode.
The cooling fan may star t after switching off the engine: take care with ar ticles and clothing that might become caught by the fan blades.

Closing
)Take the stay out of its suppor t slot. )Clip the stay back into its housing. )Lower the bonnet and release it at the end of its travel. )Pull on the bonnet to check that it haslatched correctly.
When the bonnet is open, take care not to damage the safety catch.

Checks

Fuel
Capacity of the tank: approximately 57 litres (petrol) or 55 litres (Diesel).

Low fuel level
Refuelling
When the low fuel level is reached,
this warning lamp in the instrumentpanel comes on, accompanied by anaudible warning, a message and the
last bar of the fuel gauge comes on in orange.
) Take care to select the pump that delivers
the correct type of fuel for your vehicle.) Introduce the nozzle so as to push in themetal non-return flap A.)
Make sure that the nozzle is pushed in as
far as possible before star ting to refuel (risk
of blowback). ) Maintain this position throughout the
refuelling operation.) Push the fuel flap to close it.
If you are filling your tank to the top, do
not persist after the 3rd cut- off; this could cause malfunctions.
A label on the inside of the fuel filler flapreminds you of the type of fuel to use,
depending on your engine type.
Additions of fuel must be of at least 5 litres to
be registered by the fuel gauge. When it
first comes on, about 6 litresof fuel
remain in the tank.
Until sufficient fuel has been added, this warninglamp appears every time the ignition is switched
on, accompanied by an audible warning and amessage. This audible warning and message
are repeated with increasing frequency as the fuel level drops towards "0".
Refuel as soon as possible to avoid running out.
Opening the filler flap may result in an inrush of air. This is entirely normal and results from the
sealing of the fuel system.
) Press the rear edge of the flap to open it
(the filler cap is par t of it).
With Stop & Star t, never refuel with the
system in STOP mode; you must switchoff the ignition with the START/STOP button.

Checks

Checks
12 V battery
The battery does not require any maintenance.
However, check that the terminals are clean
and correctl
y tightened, particularly in summer and winter.

Refer to the maintenance andwarranty guide for details of the
replacement inter vals for these
components.
Air filter and passenger compartment filter
Replace the oil filter each time theengine oil is changed.
Refer to the maintenance andwarranty guide for details of the
replacement interval for this component.
Oil filter The presence of this label, in particular with
the Stop & Start system, indicates the use of a specific 12 V lead-acid battery with special
technology and specification. The involvement
of a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop is
essential when replacing or disconnecting the
battery.
Unless other wise indicated, check these components in accordance with the maintenance and warrant
y guide and according to your engine.
Other wise, have them checked by a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.
Dependin
g on the environment (e.g. dustyatmosphere) and the use of the vehicle(e.g. city driving), replace them twiceas often if necessar y.y
A clogged passenger compar tment filter may have an adverse effect on the performance
of the air conditioning system and generateundesirable odours.
Particle emissions filter (Diesel)
The start of saturation of thepar ticle filter is indicated by the
fixed illumination of this warning lamp accompanied by a warning
message.
As soon as the traffic conditions permit, regenerate the filter by driving at aspeed of at least 40 mph (60 km/h) until the warning lamp goes off.
If the warning lamp stays on, thisindicates a low additive level.

On a new vehicle, the first par ticlefilter regeneration operations may beaccompanied by a "burning" smell,
which is perfectly normal.
Following prolonged operation of thevehicle at very low speed or at idle, you may, in exceptional circumstances, notice the emission of water vapour atthe exhaust on acceleration. This does not affect the behaviour of the vehicle or the environment. When carrying out work on the battery, re
fer
to the "12 V battery" section for details of theprecautions to be taken before disconnecting
the battery and following its reconnection.
