Operation
When either the ESP or ASR system is brought into operation, the ESP/
ASR w a r n i n g l a m p l a s h e s .
Deactivation
I n e x c e p t i o n a l c o n d i t i o n s ( v e h i c l e s t u c k i n s n o w , s o f t g r o u n d , e t c . ) i t m a y
p r o v e u s e f u l t o d e a c t i v a t e t h e E S P / A S R s y s t e m t o a l l o w t h e w h e e l s t o s p i n
and thus regain traction.

- The ESP/ASR w a r n i n g l a m p l i g h t s u p , a c c o m p a n i e d b y a n a u d i b l e s i g n a l
and the message ESP/ASR DEACTIVATED on the multifunction screen.
Then the ESP/ASR systems are no longer active.
The ESP/ASR systems will redeploy:
- automatically i f t h e i g n i t i o n h a s b e e n s w i t c h e d o f f o r a s s o o n a s t h e
vehicle reaches approx. 50 km/h (approx. 30 mph),
- manually b y a r e n e w e d p r e s s o n t h e c o n t r o l A.
Operational anomaly
I f t h e s y s t e m i s m a l f u n c t i o n i n g , E S P / A S R w a r n i n g l a m p l i g h t s u p a l o n g
w i t h t h e S E R V I C E w a r n i n g l a m p , a b e e p a n d t h e m e s s a g e “ E S P / A S R
FAULT” on the multifunction screen.
Consult a CITROËN dealer to have the system checked.
Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) and Traction Control (ASR)
These systems are closely connected to the ABS and additional to i
t. In
the event of a loss of control of the vehicle by the driver, the ESP system
acts automatically on one or more brakes and also on the engine to bring
the vehicle back on trajectory. The ASR system optimises traction and
p r e v e n t s w h e e l s p i n b y a c t i n g o n t h e b r a k e s o f t h e d r i v i n g w h e e l s . I t a l s o

Safety recommendations
The ESP system offers increased
driving safety but is not in place
to encourage the driver to take
additional risks or to drive at
excessive speeds.
The functioning of this system is

parts and electronic components,
