way that you can get a good overview of
road and traffic conditions.Rear-view mirror*

Adjust the exterior mirrors manually.
Mirrors
Warning
G
The exterior mirrors reduce the size of the
image. Objects therefore appear further
away than they really are. You could
therefore cause an accident if you only
observe traffic in the exterior mirrors.
For this reason, you should pay attention
to traffic behind you by also using the
main exterior mirror and, if necessary, the
rear-view mirror, especially while maneu-
vering or overtaking.

248 Controls in detailDriving systems
3
\3 Driving systemsDriving systems which may form part of
your vehicle are described on the follow-
ing pages:\4
Cruise control* (
\2
page 248), which
you can use to control the speed of
your vehicle
\4
Parktronic system*, which is an aid
for parking and maneuvering
(\2
page 253)
\4
Rear view camera*, which is an aid
for parking and maneuvering
(\2
page 258)
\4
Reverse warning feature*, which
helps you ensure the safety of other
road users (
\2
page 271)The ABS, BAS, ESP
®, ASR and EBV driv-
ing safety systems are described in the
"Driving Safety Systems" section
(
\2
page 33).
Cruise control maintains the speed of
the vehicle for you.
Use cruise control if road and traffic con-
ditions make it appropriate to maintain a
steady speed for a prolonged period.
You can set any speed above 20 mph
(30 km/h) in 1-mph increments (1-km/
h increments).Cruise control*
iThe increments for setting speed and
the threshold values for switching on
or automatically switching off cruise
control depend on the digital speed-
ometer setting, mph or km/h
(\2
page 165).

Cruise control leverThe cruise control lever is the upper-
most lever on the left of the steering col-
umn.
Warning
G
The cruise control function cannot take
account of road and traffic conditions.
Always pay attention to road and traffic
conditions, even when cruise control is
activated.Cruise control is only an aid designed to
assist driving. You are responsible for the
vehicle’s speed and for braking in good
time.
If there is a change of drivers, advise the
new driver of the cruising speed that is
stored.
Warning
G
Do not use cruise control:
\4if road and traffic conditions do not
permit a constant driving speed to be
maintained (e.g. heavy traffic or wind-
ing roads). You could otherwise cause
an accident.
\4on slippery roads. The drive wheels
may lose their grip when braking or
accelerating and the vehicle could
skid
\4when visibility is poor, e.g. in fog,
heavy rain or snow
iCruise control may be unable to
maintain the stored speed on uphill
or downhill gradients. The stored
speed is resumed if the gradient
evens out and the vehicle’s speed
has not fallen below 20 mph
(30 km/h).

*
Warning
G
Parktronic is only an aid and may not de-
tect all obstacles. This system does not
relieve you of the need to pay attention.
You are always responsible for safety and
must continue to pay attention to your im-
mediate surroundings when parking and
maneuvering. Otherwise, you could en-
danger yourself and others.
Warning
G
Make sure that no persons or animals are
in the maneuvering range of the vehicle.
They could otherwise be injured.

Warning
G
The rear view camera is only an aid and
may display potential obstacles in a ske-
wed perspective, incorrectly or not at all.
This system does not relieve you of your
obligation to pay attention. The camera is not able to display all ob-
jects which may be located in the immedi-
ate vicinity\4of the rear bumper\4underneath the rear bumper.

Warning (Continued)
G
The rear view camera will not provide you
with advance warning of a collision, per-
sons or objects. You are always respon-
sible for safety and must continue to pay
attention to your immediate surroundings
when parking and maneuvering. This ap-
plies not only in the area to the rear of
your vehicle, but also in the area in front
of and to the side of it.

Reducing the volume of the warning
signal
\1
Select reverse gear twice in quick
succession.
The warning signal sounds more
quietly.
Warning
G
The reverse warning feature signal could
be ignored by other road users. For this
reason, the reverse warning feature can-
not guarantee that there are no people or
objects behind your vehicle. The reverse warning feature is a system
which helps you ensure the safety of oth-
er road users. However, it does not re-
lieve you in any way from the
responsibility of personally ensuring that
there are no people or objects behind
your vehicle when reversing.
Continued
Warning (Continued)
G
For this reason, always observe the road
and traffic conditions with due caution.
Make sure that there are no people or ob-
jects behind your vehicle when reversing,
in order to avoid injuring people or dam-
aging property. If necessary, ask some-
one to direct you when maneuvering.
iThe warning signal always sounds at
normal volume and must be turned
down again every time reverse gear
is engaged.

Always use the lashing points closest
to the load for securing it in place
and place padding around sharp edg-
es.

iLashing materials that comply with
valid standards can be obtained in
any specialist shop or from an autho-
rized Sprinter Dealer.
If possible, use the lashing eyes
when securing a load, especially if it
is heavy.

Electronic equipment
4
\3 Electronic equipment
The vehicle’s general operating permit
may be invalidated if you do not observe
the manufacturer’s installation specifi-
cations .
You will find information about retrofit-
ting electrical / electronic equipment in
the “Technical data” section
(\2
page 602).
Radio, telephone, two-way radio,
fax machine and navigation
systemWarning
G
Please do not forget that your primary re-
sponsibility is to drive the vehicle safely.
Only operate the electronic equipment
when road and traffic conditions permit.
Keep in mind that at a speed of just
30 mph (about 50 km/h), your vehicle
travels 44 feet (about 14 m) per second.

Warning (Continued)
G
A navigation system does not provide in-
formation about bridge load-bearing ca-
pacities or headroom clearances.
You are responsible for safety at all times.
Observe legal requirements.Telephones, two-way radios and fax ma-
chines without an exterior antenna may in-
terfere with the vehicle’s electronics, thereby
jeopardizing the vehicle’s operating safety.
The risk of an accident increases.Do not use this equipment while the vehi-
cle is in motion.

hicle standing on a level surface and
with the engine switched off. The cool-
ant temperature must have dropped be-
low 122 °F (50 °C).
