NOTICE
Do not perform any of the following changes without
consulting your Lexus dealer. Such changes can
interfere with proper operation of the front seat belt
pretensioners in some cases.
Installation of electronic devices such as a mobile
twoway radio, cassette tape player or CD player
 Repairs on or near the front seat belt retractor
assemblies
 Modification of the suspension system
 Modification of the front end structure
 Attachment of a grille guard (bull bar, kangaroo bar,
etc.), snowplow, winches or any other equipment to
the front end
 Repairs made on or near the front fenders, front end
structure or console
This indicator comes on when the ignition key is turned to
the “ON” position. It goes off after about 6 seconds. This
means the front seat belt pretensioners are operating
properly.
This warning light system monitors the airbag sensor
assembly, front airbag sensors, side and curtain shield airbag
sensor assemblies, curtain shield airbag sensor assemblies,
driver’s seat position sensor, driver’s seat belt buckle switch,
front passenger occupant classification system, “AIRBAG ON”
indicator light, “AIRBAG OFF” indicator light, front passenger’s
seat belt buckle switch, front seat belt pretensioner
assemblies, inflators, warning light, interconnecting wiring and
power sources. (For details, see “Service reminder indicators
and warning buzzers” on page 74.)

Do not attach any heavy, sharp or hard objects such
as keys or accessories to the ignition key. The
objects may restrict the SRS knee airbag inflation or
be thrust into the driver’s seat area by the force of the
deploying airbag, thus causing a danger.

Do not place luggage heavier than specified on the
roof luggage carrier. Such luggage may cause the
curtain shield airbags and seat belt pretensioners to
inflate accidentally, which could result in death or
serious injury. For details, see “Roof luggage
carrier” on page 136.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in death
or serious injury. Consult your Lexus dealer about any
repair and modification.
If you wish to modify your vehicle for a person with a
physical disability, consult your Lexus dealer. It may
dangerously interfere with the SRS side airbags and
curtain shield airbags operation.NOTICE

Push the “MUTE” button to decrease the volume
momentarily.
To return to its original volume, push the same button again.
When the audio system is turned on, the mute is always off
regardless of the previous mode.Push the “AM”, “FM”, “TAPE” or “DISC” button to turn on
that mode. The selected mode turns on directly.
Push these buttons if you want to switch from one mode to
another.
If the tape or CD is not set, the cassette player or CD player
does not turn on.
You can turn off each player by ejecting the cassette tape or
CD. If the audio system was previously off, then the entire
audio system will be turned off when you eject the cassette
tape or CD. If the other function was previously playing, it will
come on again.

266Vehicles with rear seat entertainment system —
The “DISC” button may also be used to operate a DVD player
when a
disc is loaded in the DVD player. Pressing the “DISC”
button changes between the CD player and DVD player. When
the DVD player is in operation, “AUX” appears on the display.
In the “TAPE” or “CD” mode, the applicable functions are
shown in the lowest part of the display. Push the switch
just below to turn on each function.
(b) Adjusting audio sounds
Your audio system can adjust tone and sound balance
or select the listening seat position.
How good an audio program sounds to you is largely
determined by the mix of the treble, mid−range, and bass
levels. In fact, different kinds of music and vocal programs
usually sound better with different mixes of treble, mid −range
and bass.

268Automatic Sound Levelizer (ASL):
When the audio sound
becomes dif ficult to be heard due to road noise, wind noise, etc.
during driving, the system adjusts to the optimum volume and
tone quality according to the noise level. While the Automatic
Sound Levelizer is on, “ASL” appears on the display.
Push the “AUDIO CONTROL” knob until the desired mode.
Turn the knob to suit your preference.
(c) Your radio antennas
Detachable antenna: To remove a detachable antenna,
carefully turn it counterclockwise.
NOTICE
To prevent damage to the antenna, make sure it is
removed before driving your vehicle through an
automatic car wash.
Wire antenna: The wire antenna is mounted inside the back
door window.
NOTICE
 When cleaning the inside of the back door window, be
careful not to scratch or damage the wire antennas or
connectors.
 Putting a window tint (especially, conductive or
metallic type) on the back door window may af fect the
reception of radio or mobile telephone. For the
installation of the window tint, consult with your
Lexus dealer.
(d) Your cassette player
When you insert a cassette, the exposed tape should face to
the right.
NOTICE
Never try to disassemble or oil any part of the cassette
player. Do not insert anything other than cassette tapes
into the slot.

(e) Your CD player
When you insert a
CD, gently push it in with the label face up.
(The player will automatically eject a CD if the label face is
down.) The CD player will play from track 1 through the end
of the CD. Then it will play from track 1 again. On models with
the CD auto changer, next CD will be played from track 1.
NOTICE
Never try to disassemble or oil any part of the CD player.
Do not insert anything other than CD into the slot.
The player is intended for use with 12 cm (4.7 in.) CDs only.
Radio operation
(a) Listening to the radio
Push these buttons to choose either an AM or FM station.
“AM”, “FM1”, “FM2” or “FM TYPE” appears on the d\
isplay.

274When the system can show the station name, “RDS” appears
on the display. Each time you push the “TEXT” button,
indication on
the display changes form the band to the station
name, a radio text in this order. After 6 seconds passes,
indication returns to the band.
Cassette tape player operation
(a) Playing a cassette tape
When you insert a cassette tape, the exposed tape should
face to the right.
The player will automatically start when you insert a cassette
tape. At this time, “TAPE” appears on the display.
To stop or eject the cassette tape, push the “
” (eject) button.
Autoreverse feature: After the cassette player reaches the
end of a tape, it automatically reverses and begins to play the
other side, regardless of whether the cassette was playing or
fast forwarding.
