NO TE:
. When theignition switchispushed tothe

ligent Keysystem warning lightmayblink in
yellow evenifthe Intelligent Keyisinside
the vehicle. Thisisnot amalfunction. To stop

WARNING:
Do not downshift abruptlyonslippery roads.
This maycause aloss ofcontrol.
CAUTION:
. The cold engine idlespeed ishigh, souse
caution whenshifting thetransmission into
a forward orreverse position beforethe
engine haswarmed up.
. Avoid revving upthe engine whilethe
vehicle isstopped. Thiscould cause unex-
pected vehicle movement.
. Never shifttoeither theªPº (Park) orªRº
(Reverse) positionwhilethevehicle ismov-
ing. This could cause serious damage tothe
transmission.
. Except inan emergency, donot shift tothe
ªNº (Neutral) positionwhiledriving. Coast-
ing with thetransmission inthe ªNº (Neutral)
position maycause serious damage tothe
transmission.
. Start theengine ineither theªPº (Park) or
ªNº (Neutral) position.Theengine willnot
start inany other position. Ifitdoes, have your
vehicle checked byaNISSAN dealer.
. Shift intotheªPº (Park) position andapply
the parking brakewhenatastandstill for
longer thanashort waiting period.
. Keep theengine atidling speed while
shifting fromtheªNº (Neutral) positionto
any driving position.
. When stopping thevehicle onanuphill
grade, donot hold thevehicle bydepressing
the accelerator pedal.Thefoot brake pedal
should bedepressed inthis situation.

Without manualshiftmode (LHDmodel)
If the battery charge islow ordischarged, theshift
lever maynotbemoved fromtheªPº (Park) position
even withthebrake pedal depressed andtheshift lever
button pushed.
T o move theshift lever, perform thefollowing
procedure:
1. Models withIntelligent Keysystem:
Place theignition switchinthe ªOFFº orªLOCKº
position.
Models without Intelligent Keysystem:
Place theignition switchinthe ªLOCKº position,
and remove thekey ifit is inserted. 2.
Apply theparking brake.
3. Push theshift lever button andmove theshift lever
to the ªNº (Neutral) positionwhileholding down
the shift lockrelease.
Place theignition switchinthe ªONº position tounlock
the steering wheel.Thevehicle maybemoved tothe
desired location.
For model withIntelligent Key system: Ifthe battery is
discharged completely,the steering wheelcannot be
unlocked. Donot move thevehicle withthesteering
wheel locked.
If the shift lever cannot bemoved outofthe ªPº (Park)
position, haveaNISSAN dealerchecktheCVT system
as soon aspossible.
WARNING:
If the shift lever cannot bemoved fromtheªPº
(Park) position whiletheengine isrunning and
the brake pedalisdepressed, thestop lights
may notwork. Malfunctioning stoplights could
cause anaccident injuringyourself andothers.
High fluidtemperature protectionmode

This transmission hasahigh fluidtemperature protec-
tion mode. Ifthe fluid temperature becomestoohigh
(for example, whenclimbing steepgrades inhigh
temperature withheavy loads, suchaswhen towing a
trailer) ,engine powerand,under someconditions,
vehicle speedwillbedecreased automatically to
reduce thechance oftransmission damage.Vehicle
speed canbecontrolled withtheaccelerator pedal,
but engine andvehicle speedmaybelimited.
Fail-safe

When thefail-safe operation occurs,theCVT willnot
be shifted tothe selected drivingposition.
If the vehicle isdriven underextreme conditions,
such asexcessive wheelspinning andsubse-
quent hardbraking, thefail-safe systemmaybe
activated. Thiswilloccur evenifall electrical
circuits arefunctioning properly.Inthis case,
place theignition switchinthe ªOFFº position
and wait for10seconds. Thenturntheignition
switch backtothe ªONº position. Thevehicle
should returntoits normal operating condition.
If itdoes notreturn toits normal operating
condition, haveaNISSAN dealercheckthe
transmission andrepair itifnecessary.
WARNING:
When thefail-safe operation occurs,vehicle
speed maybegradually reduced.Thereduced
speed maybelower thanother traffic,which
could increase thechance ofacollision. Be
especially carefulwhendriving. Ifnecessary, pull
to the side ofthe road atasafe place andallow
the transmission toreturn tonormal operation,
or have itrepaired ifnecessary.

. Stop thevehicle completely beforeshifting
into theªRº(Reverse) position.
. When thevehicle isstopped foraperiod of
time, forexample waitingatstoplights, shift
to the ªNº (Neutral) positionandrelease the
clutch pedalwiththefoot brake pedal
depressed.
. Do not shift tothe ªNº (Neutral) position
while driving. Doingsomay result inan
accident duetoloss ofengine braking.
Starting vehicle

1. After starting theengine, depress theclutch pedal
to the floor andmove theshift lever tothe ª1º(1st)
or ªRº (Reverse) position.
2. Slowly depress theaccelerator pedal,releasing
the clutch pedalandparking brakeatthe same
time.

T o change gears,orwhen upshifting ordownshifting,
fully depress theclutch pedal, shiftintotheappropriate
gear, thenslowly andsmoothly releasetheclutch
pedal.
T o ensure smooth gearchanges, fullydepress the
clutch pedalbefore operating theshift lever. Ifthe
clutch pedalisnot fully depressed beforethe
transmission isshifted, agear noise maybeheard.
T ransmission damagecouldoccur.
Start thevehicle inthe ª1º(1st) position andshift to
the ª2º(2nd) ,ª3º (3rd) ,ª4º (4th) ,ª5º (5th) andª6º
(6th) (ifequipped) gearinsequence according tothe
vehicle speed.
If itis difficult tomove theshift lever intotheªRº
(Reverse) orª1º (1st) position, shifttothe ªNº (Neutral)
position, andthen release theclutch pedalonce.Fully
depress theclutch pedalagainandshift intoªRºorª1º
