WARNING:
. Never remove the radiator cap when the
engine is hot. Serious burns could be caused
by high-pressure fluid escaping from the
radiator. Wait until the engine and radiator
cool down.
. Engine coolant is poisonous and should be
stored carefully in marked containers out of
the reach of children.
The engine cooling system is fille\b \ft the f\fctory with \f
high-qu\flity, ye\fr-roun\b, \fnti-freeze cool\fnt solution.
The \fnti-freeze solution cont\fins rust \fn\b corrosion
inhibitors, therefore \f\b\bition\fl cooling system \f\b\bitives
\fre not necess\fry.
CAUTION:
. Never use any cooling system additives such
as radiator sealer. Additives may clog the
cooling system and cause damage to the
engine, transmission and/or cooling system.
. When adding or replacing coolant, be sure
to use only fluids approved by our technical
department with the proper mixture ratio.
Examples of the mixture ratio are shown
below:

It is normal to add some oil between oil
maintenance intervals or during the break-in
period, depending on the severity of operat-
ing conditions.
CAUTION:
The oil level should be checked regularly.
Operating your vehicle with an insufficient
amount of oil can damage the engine, and such
damage is not covered by warranty.
CHANGING ENGINE OIL AND OIL FILTER
WARNING:
.Used oil must be disposed of properly. Never
pour or dump oil into the ground, canals,
rivers, etc. It should be disposed of at proper
waste facilities. RENAULT recommends hav-
ing your oil changed by a RENAULT dealer.
. Be careful not to burn yourself, as the
engine oil may be hot.
. Prolonged and repeated contact with used
engine oil may cause skin cancer.
. Avoid direct skin contact with used oil. If
contacted, wash thoroughly with soap or

Checking battery fl\fid level
D\b0137MAType A
SD\b1480Type A
JVM0065XType BCheck the fl\fid level in each cell. The battery fl\fid level
sho\fld be between the UPPER LEVEL*1and
LOWER LEVEL*2lines.
\bf it is necessary to add fl\fid, add only demineralized/
distilled water to bring the level to the indicator in each
filler opening. Do not overfill.
1. Remove the cell pl\fgs
*A, if eq\fipped.
2. Add demineralized/disti\llled water \fp to the UPPER LEVEL
*1line.
3. Replace and tighten the cell pl\fgs.
. Vehicles operated in high temperat\fres or \fnder
severe conditions req\fire freq\fent checks of the
battery fl\fid level.
. Keep the battery s\frface clean and dry. Clean the
battery with a sol\ftion of baking soda and water.
. Make certain the terminal connections are clean
and sec\frely tightened.
. \bf the vehicle is not to be \fsed for more than 30
days, disconnect the negative (í) battery terminal
cable to prevent battery discharge.
. For a maintenance free battery (for Type B) it is not
req\fired to check the fl\fid level. However,
RENAULT recommends to vis\fally check the green indicator
*Bstat\fs periodically. \bf the color
of the indicator is changed, please contact a
RENAULT dealer as soon as possible.
For model with Stop/Start (\bdling Stop) System, see
“J\fmp starting” (P.6-8) .
J\fmp starting
\bf j\fmp starting is necessary, see “J\fmp starting” (P.6-
8) . \bf the engine does not start by j\fmp starting or the
battery does not charge, the battery may have to be
replaced. Contact a RENAULT dealer for replacing the
battery.

Battery replacement
CAUTION:
. Be careful not to allow children to swallow
the battery and removed parts.
. An improperly disposed battery can harm
the environment. Always confirm local reg-
ulations for battery disposal.
. When changing batteries, do not let dust or
oil get on the components.
. There is danger of explosion if lithium
battery is incorrectly replaced. Replace only
with the same or equivalent type.

FUEL RECOMMENDATION
Gasoli\fe e\fgi\fe (\bodel with three–way
catalyst)
CAUTION:
Do not use leaded gasoline. Using leaded gaso-
line will damage the three-way catalyst.
Except for Europe, Thaila\fd a\fd Chi\fa: Use UN-
LEADED REGULAR gasoli\fe of at least 91 octa\fe
(RON) .
For Europe: Use UNLEADED PREMIUM gasoli\fe of at
least 95 octa\fe (RON) .
If u\fleaded pre\biu\b gasoli\fe is \fot used, UNLEADED
REGULAR gasoli\fe with a\f octa\fe rati\fg of at least 91
(RON) \bay be used at slightly reduced perfor\ba\fce.
However, for \baxi\bu\b vehicle perfor\ba\fce a\fd the
best driveability, the use of u\fleaded pre\biu\b gasoli\fe
is reco\b\be\fded.
For Thaila\fd: Use UNLEADED REGULAR gasoli\fe or
gasohol (up to E20*) of at least 91 octa\fe (RON) .
*: Gasohol is alcohol ble\fded gasoli\fe. For exa\bple,
“E20” is a \bixture of approxi\bately 20% fuel etha\fol
a\fd 80% u\fleaded gasoli\fe.
For Chi\fa: Use UNLEADED REGULAR gasoli\fe of at
least 93 octa\fe (RON) .
Your vehicle co\bplies with GB18352.3-2005. Use
u\fleaded gasoli\fe with a\f octa\fe rati\fg 93 (RON) or
above a\fd \fatio\fal III or IV e\bissio\f sta\fdard
co\bplia\ft. If other types of gasoli\fe are used, it will
reduce the perfor\ba\fce of the vehicle’s e\bissio\f
co\ftrol syste\b a\fd the Malfu\fctio\f I\fdicator Light
(MIL) will illu\bi\fate.
Diesel e\fgi\fe*
Diesel fuel of at least 50 ceta\fe*
If two types of diesel fuel are available, use su\b\ber or wi\fter
fuel properly accordi\fg to the followi\fg te\bperature co\fdi-
tio\fs.
. Above í78C (208F) ... Su\b\ber type diesel fuel.
. Below í78C (208F) ... Wi\fter type diesel fuel.
CAUTION:
.Do not use home heating oil, gasoline or
other alternate fuels in your diesel engine.
The use of those or adding those to diesel
fuel can cause engine damage.
. Do not use summer fuel at temperatures
below í78C (208F) . The cold temperatures
will cause wax to form in the fuel. As a
result, it may prevent the engine from
running smoothly.

ANT AND LUB\fICANT
The air conditioner system of your vehicle must be
charged with the refrigerant HFC-134a (\f134a) and
the lubricant approved by our technical department or
equivalents. Use of any other refrigerants or lubricants
will cause severe damage, and you may need to
replace your vehicle’s entire air conditioner system.
The release of refrigerants into the atmosphere is
prohibited in many countries and regions. The refrig-
erant HFC-134a (\f-134a) in your vehicle will not harm
the \barth’s ozone layer. However, it may contribute in a
small part to the global warming effect. \f\bNAULT
recommends that the refrigerant be appropriately
recovered and recycled. Contact a \f\bNAULT dealer
when servicing the air conditioner system.
