CAUTION
When raising your vehicle
Make sure to observe the following precautions to reduce the possibility of
death or serious injury:
When using a floor jack, follow the instructions of the manual provided with
the jack.
Do not use the jack that was supplied with your vehicle.
Do not put any part of your body underneath the vehicle when it is sup-
ported only by the floor jack.
Always use floor jack and/or automotive jack stands on a solid, flat, level
surface.
Do not start the engine (except hybrid model) or hybrid system (hybrid
model) while the vehicle is supported by the floor jack.
Except hybrid model: Stop the vehicle on level firm ground, firmly set the
parking brake and shift the shift lever in P (multidrive), E, M or R (multi-
mode manual transmission) or R (manual transmission).
Hybrid model: Stop the vehicle on level, firm ground, firmly set the parking
brake and shift the shift position to P.
Make sure to set the floor jack properly at the jack point.
Raising the vehicle with an improperly positioned floor jack will damage
the vehicle and may cause the vehicle to fall off the floor jack.
Do not raise the vehicle while someone is in the vehicle.
When raising the vehicle, do not place any object on top of or underneath
the floor jack.
Lift up the vehicle using a floor jack
such as the one shown in the illustra-
tion.

Engine oil consumption
The amount of engine oil consumed depends on the oil viscosity, the quality
of the oil and the way the vehicle is driven.
More oil is consumed under driving conditions such as high speeds and fre-
quent acceleration and deceleration.
A new engine consumes more oil.
When judging the amount of oil consumption, keep in mind that the oil may
have become diluted, making it difficult to judge the true level accurately.
Oil consumption: Max. 1.0 L/1000 km (1.1 qt./600 miles, 0.9 Imp. qt./600
miles)
If your vehicle consumes more than 1.0 L (1.1 qt., 0.9 Imp. qt.) every 1000
km (600 miles), contact any authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another
duly qualified and equipped professional.
After changing the engine oil (diesel engine only)
The engine oil maintenance data should be reset. Perform the following pro-
cedures:
Switch the display to the trip meter “A” when the engine is running.
(P. 122, 126)
Vehicles without a smart entry & start system:
Turn the engine switch off.
Vehicles with a smart entry & start system:
Turn the engine switch off.
Vehicles without a smart entry & start system:
While pressing the display change button (P. 122, 126), turn the engine
switch to the “ON” position (do not start the engine because reset mode will
be canceled). Continue to press and hold the button until the trip meter dis-
plays “000000”.
Vehicles with a smart entry & start system:
While pressing the display change button (P. 122, 126), turn the engine
switch to the IGNITION ON mode (do not start the engine because other-
wise the reset mode will be canceled). Continue to press and hold the but-
ton until the trip meter displays “000000”.

Maintenance and care
Before recharging
When recharging, the 12-volt battery produces hydrogen gas which is flam-
mable and explosive. Therefore, observe the following before recharging:
If recharging with the 12-volt battery installed on the vehicle, be sure to dis-
connect the ground cable.
Make sure the power switch on the charger is off when connecting and dis-
connecting the charger cables to the 12-volt battery.
After recharging/reconnecting the 12-volt battery (vehicles with a smart
entry & start system)
Unlocking the doors using the smart entry & start system may not be possi-
ble immediately after reconnecting the 12-volt battery. If this happens, use
the wireless remote control or the mechanical key to lock/unlock the doors.
Start the engine with the engine switch in ACCESSORY mode. The engine
may not start with the engine switch turned off. However, the engine will
operate normally from the second attempt.
The engine switch mode is recorded by the vehicle. If the 12-volt battery is
reconnected, the vehicle will return the engine switch mode to the status it
was in before the 12-volt battery was disconnected. Make sure to turn off
the engine before disconnect the 12-volt battery. Take extra care when con-
necting the 12-volt battery if the engine switch mode prior to discharge is
unknown.
If the system will not start even after multiple attempts, contact any authorized
Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.

You may drain the fuel filter yourself. However, as the operation is dif-
ficult, we recommend having it drained by any authorized Toyota
dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional. Even if you decide to drain it yourself, contact any authorized
Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped pro-
fessional.
Vehicles without a multi-information display
The water in the fuel filter needs to be drained if the fuel filter warn-
ing light comes on and a buzzer sounds. (P. 586)
Vehicles with a multi-information display
When the “DRAIN WATER FROM FUEL FILTER” warning mes-
sage is shown on the multi-information display and a buzzer
sounds. (P. 607)
Vehicles without a smart entry & start system: Turn the engine
switch to the “LOCK” position.
Vehicles with a smart entry & start system: Turn the engine
switch off.
Place a small tray under the drain plug to catch the water and
any fuel that comes out.
NOTICE
Do not use any fluid other than washer fluid
Do not use soapy water or engine antifreeze instead of washer fluid.
Doing so may cause streaking on the vehicle’s painted surfaces.
Diluting washer fluid
Dilute washer fluid with water as necessary.
Refer to the freezing temperatures listed on the label of the washer fluid bot-
tle.

entry function may not be possible immediately after reconnecting the 12-
volt battery. If this happens, use the wireless remote control or the mechani-
cal key to lock/unlock the doors.
Start the hybrid system with the power switch in ACCESSORY mode. The
hybrid system may not start with the power switch turned off. However, the
hybrid system will operate normally from the second attempt.
The power switch mode is recorded by the vehicle. If the 12-volt battery is
reconnected, the vehicle will return the power switch mode to the status it
was in before the 12-volt battery was disconnected. Make sure to turn the
power switch off before disconnect the 12-volt battery. Take extra care when
connecting the 12-volt battery if the power switch mode prior to discharge is
unknown.
When the 12-volt battery is reconnected, start the hybrid system, depress
the brake pedal, and confirm that it is possible to shift into each shift posi-
tion.
If the system will not start even after multiple attempts, contact any authorized
Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional.

Flathead screwdriver
Small flathead screwdriver
Lithium battery CR2016 (vehicles without a smart entry & start sys-
tem), or CR2032 (vehicles with a smart entry & start system or push
button start)
Vehicles without a smart entry & start system
Remove the cover.
To prevent damage to the key,
cover the tip of the screwdriver with
a rag.
Remove the battery cover.

Replace the battery with a new one if it is depleted.

Remove the depleted battery.
Insert a new battery with the “+”
terminal facing up.
Vehicles with a smart entry & start system or push button start
Take out the mechanical key.
Remove the cover.
To prevent damage to the key,
cover the tip of the screwdriver with
a rag.
Remove the depleted battery.
Insert a new battery with the “+”
terminal facing up.

Maintenance and care
Use a CR2016 (vehicles without a smart entry & start system) or CR2032
(vehicles with a smart entry & start system or push button start) lithium
battery
Batteries can be purchased at any authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or
another duly qualified and equipped professional, local electrical appliance
shops or camera stores.
Replace only with the same or equivalent type recommended by the manu-
facturer.
Dispose of used batteries according to local laws.
If the key battery is depleted
The following symptoms may occur:
The smart entry & start system (if equipped), push button start (if equipped)
and wireless remote control will not function properly.
The operational range will be reduced.
CAUTION
Removed battery and other parts
These parts are small and if swallowed by a child, they can cause choking.
Keep away from children. Failure to do so could result in death or serious
injury.
Certification for the lithium battery
RISK OF EXPLOSION IF BATTERY IS REPLACED BY AN INCORRECT
TYPE. DISPOSE OF USED BATTERIES ACCORDING TO THE INSTRUC-
TIONS
NOTICE
For normal operation after replacing the battery
Observe the following precautions to prevent accidents:
Always work with dry hands.
Moisture may cause the battery to rust.
Do not touch or move any other component inside the remote control.
Do not bend either of the battery terminals.
