QThe meters illuminate when
The engine switch is in the “ON” position (vehicles without smart entry & start
system) or IGNITION ON mode (vehicles with smart entry & start system).
Q The brightness of the instrument panel lights (vehicles with multi-infor-
mation display)
The instrument panel brightness levels when the tail lights are on and off can
be adjusted individually.
When the headlight switch is turned to on, the brightness will be reduced
slightly unless the instrument panel brightness level is set to the brightest set-
ting.
Q When disconnecting and reconnecting battery terminals
The trip meter data will be reset.
Q Outside temperature display
In the following situations, the correct outside temperature may not be dis-
played, or the display may take longer than normal to change:
O When the vehicle is stopped, or moving at low speeds (less than 25 km/h
[15 mph])
O When the outside temperature has changed suddenly (at the entrance/exit
of a garage, tunnel, etc.)
Q When “--” is displayed
The system may be malfunctioning. Take your vehicle to any authorized
Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.

To take out the mechanical key,
slide the release lever and take
the key out.
The mechanical key can only be
inserted in one direction, as the
key only has grooves on one side.
If the key cannot be inserted in a
lock cylinder, turn it over and re-
attempt to insert it.
After using the mechanical key, store it in the electronic key. Carry the
mechanical key together with the electronic key. If the electronic key bat-
tery is depleted or the entry func tion does not operate properly, you will
need the mechanical key. ( P. 600)
QPanic mode (if equipped)
Q When required to leave the vehicle’s key with a parking attendant
Lock the glove box as circumstances demand. ( P. 457)
Vehicles without smart entry & start system
Carry the master key for your own use and provide the attendant with the
valet key.
Vehicles with smart entry & start system
Remove the mechanical key for your own use and provide the attendant with
the electronic key only. If there is the supplementary key, carry the supple-
mentary key for your own use as well as the mechanical key.
Using the mechanical key (vehicles with smart entry & start sys-
tem)
When is pressed for longer than
about one second, an alarm will sound
intermittently and the vehicle lights will
flash to deter any person from trying to
break into or damage your vehicle.
To stop the alarm, press any button on the
wireless remote control.

Q Temporary cancelation of functions
When operation conditions are no longer met, a function may be temporarily
canceled. However, when the operation conditions are met again, operation
of the function is automatically restored. ( P. 292)
Q Yaw assist function
O Depending on the vehicle speed, lane departure situation, road conditions,
etc., the driver may not feel the func tion is operating or the function may not
operate at all.
O The yaw assist of the function is overridden by the driver’s steering wheel
operation.
O Do not attempt to test the operation of the yaw assist function.
O A sound may be heard from the engine compartment when the brake pedal
is depressed, when the yaw assist function is operating. This sound does
not indicate that a malfunction is occurred in the LDA system.
Q Lane departure alert function
O The warning buzzer may be difficult to hear due to external noise, audio
playback, etc.
O If the edge of the course* is not clear or straight, the lane departure alert
function may not operate.
O Do not attempt to test the operation of the lane departure alert function.
*: Boundary between asphalt and the side of the road, such as grass, soil,
or a curb
Q Vehicle sway warning function
Depending on the vehicle and road conditions, the warning may not operate.
When the system determines that the
vehicle is swaying while the vehicle sway
warning function is operating, a buzzer
sounds and a warning message urging
the driver to rest and the symbol shown in
the illustration are simultaneously dis-
played on the multi-information display.

Q Operating conditions
O The Stop & Start system is operational when all of the following conditions
are met:
• The vehicle has been driven a certain amount of time.
• The brake pedal is being depressed firmly. (vehicles with automatic trans-
mission)
• The clutch pedal is not depressed. (vehicles with manual transmission)
• The D shift position is selected. (v ehicles with automatic transmission)
• The shift lever is in N. (vehicles with manual transmission)
• The driver’s seat belt is fastened.
• The driver’s door is closed.
• The selected driving mode is normal or Eco drive mode. (if equipped)
• The rear differential is not locked. (if equipped)
• is off. (vehicles without manual air conditioning system)
• The accelerator pedal is not being depressed. (vehicles with automatic
transmission)
• The engine is adequately warmed up.
• The outside temperature is -5°C (23°F) or higher.
• The hood is closed. ( P. 349)
O In the following situations, the engine may not be stopped by the Stop &
Start system. This is not a malfunction of the Stop & Start system.
• When the air conditioning system is being used.
• When the battery is undergoing a periodic recharge.
• When the battery is not sufficiently charged, such as if the vehicle has
been parked for a long time and the battery charge has decreased, the
electric load is large, the battery fluid temperature is excessively low or
the battery has deteriorated.
• When the brake booster vacuum is low.
• When the elapsed time since the engine was restarted is short.
• When the vehicle is stopped frequently, such as when in a traffic jam.
• When the engine coolant temperature or transmission fluid temperature
is extremely low or high.
• When the vehicle is stopped on a steep incline. (vehicles with automatic
transmission)
• When the steering wheel is being operated.
• When the vehicle is being driven in a high altitude area.
• When the battery fluid temperature is extremely low or high.
• For a while after the battery terminals have been disconnected and
reconnected.

DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) system
: If equipped
When the deposit collected by the filter reaches a predetermined
amount, it is automatically regenerated.
WARNING
Q During regeneration
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in serious injury such as burns caused by the hot
exhaust pipe and exhaust gases, or may cause a fire.
O Do not carry out regeneration when the vehicle is in an enclosed area,
such as a garage.
O Do not touch the exhaust pipe and exhaust gases during regeneration.
NOTICE
QTo prevent the DPF system from failing
O Do not drive for long periods of time while the DPF system warning mes- sage “DPF full Visit your dealer” appears on the multi-information displayand a buzzer sounds (malfunction indicator lamp comes on)
O Do not use fuel other than the specified type
O Do not use engine oil other than the recommended type
O Do not modify the exhaust pipe
ODo not stop the vehicle where flamma-
ble materials, such as dry grass, are
near the exhaust pipe.
O Make sure that there are no people
near the exhaust pipe.
