Kick-down
Kick-down enables maximum acceleration.
When you press the accelerato r peda l down be­
yond the resistance point, the automatic trans­
miss io n downshifts into a lower gear, depend ing
on vehicle speed and engine RPM. It shif ts up in­
to the next higher gear once the max imum speci­
fied engine RPM is reached .
I n t iptroni c mode, the t ransmission does
not au­
tomatically sh ift down into a lowe r gear. If you
m ust accelerate, for example to pass a veh icle,
you must shift manually .
_& WARNING
Please note that the wheels could spin on
slick or slippery roads when kick-down is ac­
tive.
Overboost
Applies to: RS 7 Spo rtback perfor man ce

The max imum engine torque is temporar ily in­
creased in overboost. Overboost is activated
when nearing full throttle in the S position and
when the engine is at operat ing temperatu re .
The bars in the boost p ressure indicator are red

The launch control program provides the best
possible acceleration when starting from a stop .
Requirement: the engine must be at operating
temperature and the steering wheel must not be
turned .

Assist Speed warning system
Applies to: vehicles with speed warning system
The speed warning system helps you to stay un­
der a specified maximum speed.
The speed warning system warns you if you are
exceeding the maximum speed that you have set.
A warning tone will sound as soon as your speed
exceeds the stored value slightly.
The . (USA models)/ . (Canada models) indi­
cator light and a message appear in the instru­
ment cluster display at the same time. The./
• indicator light and the message turn off if the
speed falls back below the stored maximum
speed .
Setting a threshold is recommended if you would
like to be reminded when you reach a certain
maximum speed. Situations where you may want
to do so include driving in a country with a gener­
al speed limit or if there is a specified maximum
speed for winter tires.
Setting the warning threshold
The warning threshold is set in the Infotainment
system.

Regardless of the speed warning system, you
should always monitor your speed using the
speedometer and make sure you are following

The cruise control system makes it possible to
drive at a constant speed starting at 20 mph (30
km/h) .

The speed is maintained by modifying engine
power or through an active brake intervention.
A WARNING
-Always pay attention to the traffic around
you when the cruise control system is in op­
eration . You are always responsible for your
speed and the distance between your vehi­
cle and other vehicles.
- For safety reasons, cruise control should not
be used in the city, in stop-and-go traffic, on
winding roads and when road conditions are poor (such as ice, fog, gravel, heavy ra in and
hydroplaning), because this inc reases the
risk of an accident.
- Switch the cruise control off temporarily
when dr iv ing in turning lanes, highway exits

\.J ' Which functions can be controlled?
You can switch the braking guard and the dis­
tance/approach warning on or off in the Infotain­
ment system
c::, page 95 , Settings in the Info­
tainment system.
A WARNING
Lack of attention can cause collisions, other
accidents and serious personal injuries. The
braking guard is an assist system and cannot
prevent a collision by itself. The driver must
always intervene . The driver is always respon­
sible for braking at the correct time.
- Always pay close attention to traffic , even
when the braking guard is switched on . Be
ready to intervene and be ready to take
complete control whenever necessary. Al­
ways keep the safe and legal distance be­
tween your vehicle and vehicles up ahead.
- Braking guard works within limits and will
not respond outside the system limits, for
example when approaching a stopped vehi­
cle or stationary obstacle (end of a traffic
jam or vehicle that has broken down in traf­
fic).
- Always remember that the radar sensor for
the braking guard works only within defined
detection and range limits that may prevent
the proper detection of other vehicles .
- The radar sensor's function and range can
be reduced by rain, snow and heavy spray.
Moving vehicles up ahead may not be
promptly detected or may not be detected
at all.
- Reflective surfaces including crash barriers
or tunnel entrances may impair the function
of the radar sensor.
{!) Tips
- You can cancel the braking with increasing
force that is initiated by the system by brak­
ing yourself, by accelerating noticeably or
by swerving.
- Keep in mind that braking guard can brake
unexpectedly. Always secure any cargo or
objects that you are transporting to reduce
the risk of damage or injury .

assigned to the remote control key being

- If you restrict or switch off the ESC, the
braking guard also switches itself off

-Switch braking guard off when you are load­
ing the vehicle onto a vehicle carrier, train,
ship or other type of transportation. This
can prevent undesired warnings from the
braking guard system.
Messages
Applies to : vehicles with Aud i adapt ive c ru ise control
Braking guard: Off
This message appears if the system is switched
off through the Infotainment system. Otherwise,
if the system is turned off, the information ap­
pears every time shortly after the start of the
trip .
The message also appears if the system is not
available due to a malfunction or if the ESC is
switched
off ¢page 121. If this is the case, the
system will not provide warnings about a possi­
ble collision.
Braking guard: engaged
This message appears if a sharp brake pressure
was applied due to an acute warning .
ACC: unavailable
ACC and Audi braking guard: Unavailable

depending on the s ituation. The distr ibution of
power varies from balanced (comfort) to sporty
(dynamic) depending on the selected mode. The
goal is a high leve l of agility and ability to accel­
erate on curves. The veh icle is very responsive to
steer ing .
Cornering light*
The cornering light adapts the high beams to the
direction of the curve depending on the speed.
The pivot ing action and the lighting also adapt to
the mode.
Adaptive c ru ise contr ol*
The behavior when acce le rating can be adjusted
from comfortable to sporty, depending on the
drive select mode. Adaptive cruise control a lso
responds to the driving behavior of the veh icle
ahead in a more conservative or sporty manner.
Engine sound *
The engine sound adapts to the current mode
and can be subtle to sporty .
(D Note
Applies to: vehicles with adaptive air suspension
- Make sure there is enough clearance above
and below the veh icle when parking. The
height of the vehicle (ground clearance) can
change once it is parked due to tempera ture
fluctuations, changes to the load condit ions
and c hanges to the d riving modes.
- When transporting the veh icle on a car car­
r ier, tra in, ship or by other means, only tie
the veh icle dow n at the running surfa ce of
the tires, w hic h is the outer circ umference .
Securing the vehicle at the axle compo ­
nents, suspension st ruts or towing eyes is
not permitted because the pressure in the
air suspension struts can change dur ing
transport . The vehicle may not be secured
sufficiently if this happens.
(D Tips
- In some models, the maximum vehicle
speed can only be reached in the auto and
dynam ic modes.

You can change the driv ing mode when the vehi­
cl e is stationary or while driv ing. If traff ic per ­
mits, afte r changing modes, briefly ta ke your
foot off the accelerator pedal so that the recently
selected mode is also activated fo r the engine.
Comf ort -prov ides a comfort -or iented vehi cle
setup and is suited fo r long drives on highways.
Auto -provides an overal l comfortab le yet dy­
namic dr iv in g feel and is suited for everyday use.
Dynamic -gives the dr iver a sporty driving fee l
and is suited to a sporty d riving style .
