Tra ve l m ode ( Canada models )*
The headlight beam is asymme trical. This pro­
vides stronger i llumination on the side of the
road on which you are driving. If you are driving
i n a country that drives on the opposit e sid e of
the road from your own country , this will cause
g lare for oncoming dr ivers . To prevent glare:
- Travel mode must be selected in vehicles with
Xenon headlights *.
- In vehicles with halogen headlights, certain
areas of the headlight lenses must be covered
with waterproof adhesive covers that prevent
li ght from pa ssing through. For more informa­
tion, please see your authori zed Audi dea ler or
autho rized repair facility .
(!) Tips
When travel mode* is activated, a display in
the driver information system ind icates this
each t ime yo u switch the ignition on.
Adaptive light
Applies to vehicles: with adaptive ligh t
When driving around bends, the relevan t area of
the road is be tter illuminated.

The adaptive light system is a comb ination of the
dynamic and the static cornering lights . With the
lights switched on , the dynamic cornering light
a dapts to driving on cu rves. This is dependent
upon the vehicle speed and steering ang le . This
provides better lighting through the curve. The

system ope rates in a speed range from approxi ­
mately 6 mph (10 km/h) to 68 mph (110 km/h) .
The stat ic co rnering ligh t switc hes on a t speeds
of up to approxima tely 25 mph (40 km/h) whe n a
ce rtain steering w heel angle is reached o r whe n a
turn signal is activated . The area to the side of
the ve hicle is illuminated better when turning.
Emergency flashers
The emergency flashers makes other motorists
aware that you or your vehicle ore in an emer ­
gency situation.

if you are towing another vehicle behind

Turn signal and high beam lever
The lever on the le~ side of the steering column
is used to operate the turn signals and the high
beam as well as the headlight flasher.

The turn s ignal and high beam lever has the fol·
lowing functions:

• Lift the lever up all the way¢ fig. 50 (D to use

Auto-blink
• Move the lever (up or down) just to the point of
resistance to use the turn signa ls for as long as
you need them, for example when changing lanes .
• Move the lever (up or down) just to the point of
resistance and then release it right away to
make the turn s ignals blink
three times. You
can use this feature for example when changing
l anes on highways.
High beam ~D
• Push the lever forward@ to switch on the high
beam.
• Pull the lever back towa rds yo u to switch off
the high beam .
Headlight flasher ~D
• Pull the lever toward the steering wheel© to
u se the head light flasher .

T he instrument illumination (fo r dials and
needles) lights o n when the ignition is switch­
e d on and the ve hicle lights are turned off. As
t he daylight fades, t he illum ina tion of the di­
als likewise dims au tomati ca lly and w ill go
out comp letely when the outside light is very
low. This feature is meant to remind you to
sw itch on the head lights when o utside light
conditions become poor.

Using the sun visors makes driving safer .

be p ulled out of their brackets in the center of

Vanity mirror
The van ity mirrors on t he sun visors are covered.
When the lid is opened @, the mi rror light in the
headliner turns on automatically . It turns off
when the lid is closed and the visor is fo lded up
again.

Move the windshield wiper lever to the corre·

@ · Windshield wiper off
(D · Interval mode. The windshield w iper auto­
matica lly activates when you drive 2 mph (4 km/
h ). The higher the sensitivity of the rain sensor is
set (switch @ to the right), the earlier the wind­
shield w ipers react to moisture on the wind·
shie ld. In some models, you can switch rain sen·
sor mode off and sw itch intermittent mode on in
the MMI* . Select:

In inte rm ittent mode, yo u can adjust the

® ·Clean the windshield . To e liminate water
d rople ts, the windshield wipe r perfo rms one af­
terwipe operat io n after several seconds while
d riving . You can switch this f unction off by mov-

ing the lever to posit ion ® within 10 seconds of
the afterwipe operation. The afterwipe function
is react ivated the next time the ignition is sw itch ­
ed on.
T he rear wiper automatically switches on when
t h e reverse gear is engaged and the front wind ·
shield wipers a re on and in ope ration.
Cleaning the headlights *. The headlight washer
system * operates only when the headlights are
on . If you move the lever to position ®, the
headlights are washed in interva ls.
@ ·W ipe the rear window. The rear w iper moves
about eve ry 4 seconds .
(!)-Clean the rear w indow . T he number of wip·
ing oper ations depends on how long the lever is
held in position 7.
_&. WARNING
-
- The rain sensor is on ly intended to ass ist the
d river. The drive r is st ill respons ible fo r
manually switch ing the wipers on according
to the visibility conditions.
- The win dshield may not be treated w ith wa­
ter-repelling w indshield coating agents. Un­
favorable condit ions, such as wet ness, dark·
ness, low su n, can result in increased glare.

- Properly functioning windshield wipe r
b lades are required for a clea r view and safe
driving.
(D Note
- In the case of frost, check w hether the
w indshield wiper blades are frozen to t he
w indshield . Switching on the w indshield
w ipers can damage the w iper blades!
- Pr ior to us ing a car wash , the w indshield
w iper system must be sw itched off (lever in
posi tion 0) . This helps to prevent un inten­
ti onal sw itch ing o n and dam age to the
w indshield wiper system.

- T he windshie ld w ipers are switched off
when the ignit io n is tu rned off. Act ivate the

switched back on by moving the windshield
wiper lever to any position .
- Worn or dirty windshield wiper blades result
in streaking. This can affect the rain sensor
function . Check your windshield wiper
blades regularly.
- The washer fluid nozzles of the windshield
washer system are heated at low tempera­
tures when the ignition is on .
- When stopp ing temporarily, e .g . at a traffic
light, the set speed of the windsh ield wipers
i s automatically reduced by one speed .
Cleaning windshield wiper blades
Clean the windshield wiper blades when they be­
gin to leave streaks . Use a soft cloth and g lass
cleaner to clea n the windshield wipe r blades .

ized Audi dealer for replacement blades.

- The windshie ld wiper blades must only be
replaced when in the service pos ition! Oth­
erwise, you r isk damaging the paint on the
hood or the w indshield wiper moto r.
- You should not move your vehicle or press
the windsh ield wiper lever when the wiper
arms are folded away from the windshie ld.
The windshie ld w ipers would move back in­
to their or iginal pos ition and could damage
the hood and w indshie ld .

-To help prevent damage to the wiper sys ­
tem, a lways loosen blades which are frozen
to the windshield before operating wipers .
- To help prevent damage to wiper blades, do
not use gasoline, kerosene, paint thinner, or
other solvents on or near the wiper blades.
- To help prevent damage to the wiper arms
or other components, do not attempt to move the wipers by hand.
@ Tips
- Comme rcial hot waxes applied by automatic
car washes affect the how easi ly the glass
surface can be cleaned.
- You can also use the service position, for ex ­
ample, if you want to protect the windsh ield
from icing by using a cover.

Depend ing on the outside temperature, the mir­
ror surfaces are heated until the ignition is
switched off- even if the knob is no longer in po­
sition @.
You are well-advised to fold the exterior m irrors
in when maneuvering in tight spaces or when
leaving the car parked close to other veh icles.
Memory for exterior mirrors*
On vehicles with memory fo r the driver's seat, the
current setting for the exterior mirrors is auto­
matically stored along with the seat position

Tilt function for the passenger's mirror*
When the reverse gear is engaged, the mirror
surface tilts downward slightly if the setting is
for the passenger's mirror (knob in position®

Liquid electrolyte leaking from broken m irror
glass will damage any plastic surfaces it
comes in contact with. C lean up spilled elec­
trolyte immediately w ith clean water and a
sponge.

- Switch ing off the dimming function of the
i nside rear v iew mirror also deact ivates the
automat ic dimming function of the exte rior
mir rors*.
- The automatic d imm ing mirrors do not dim
when the interior lighting is turned on or
the reverse gea r is selected .
- Automat ic dimming for the m irror on ly op­
erates prope rly if the light str iking the in­
s ide mirror is not hinde red by othe r objects.
Digital compass
Activating or deactivating the compass

The direction is displayed on the interior rear
view mirror.

... To activate or deactivate, hold the @button
down until the red d isplay appears or disap­
pears.
Lights and V ision
The digita l compass on ly works with the ignition
turned on. The directions are disp layed as initia ls :
N (North), NE (Northeast), E (East), SE (South­
east),
S (South), S W (Southwest), W (West), NW
(Northwest).

To avoid inaccurate d irect ions, do not allow
any remote controls, electrical systems, or
metal parts close to the mirror.
Setting the magnetic deflection zone

set in order to display the directions correctly.

Front passenger 's seat
Always move the front passenger seat into the
rearmost position.
To avoid contact with the airbag wh ile it is de­
ploying, do not sit any closer to the instrument
panel than necessary and always wear the three­
point safety belt prov ided adjusted correctly. We
recommend that yo u adj ust the passenger's seat
i n t he following ma nner:
.. Move the front passenger seat into the rear­
most position of the fore and aft adjustment
range

.. Bring the back rest up to a n (a lmost) upright
position .
Do not ride with the seat recl ined.
.. Adjust the head restraint so the upper edge is
as even as possible with the top of your head . If

- Never adjust the drive r's or front p asseng­
er 's sea t while t he veh icle is moving.
If you
do t his while the vehicle is moving, yo u will
be out of posit ion . Always ad just the driver 's
or front passenger's seat when the vehicle is
not moving .
- Be carefu l when adjusting the seat height.
Check to see that no one is in the way, or se­
rious injury could resu lt!
- Because the seats can be electrically adjust­
ed w ith the ignition off or with the ign ition
key removed, never leave children unattend­
ed in the vehicle. Unsupe rvised use of the
electric seat ad justmen ts may cause serious
in ju ry.
- To reduce the r isk of injury in the case of
sudden b raking or accident, front passen­
ge rs must neve r ride i n a moving ve hicle
w it h the backrest reclined. Safety belts a nd
the airbag system only o ffer maxim um pro­
t ection when the bac krest is upr igh t and the
safety belts are properly positioned on the
body. The mo re the bac krest is reclined, the
greater the risk of personal injury from an
incorrect seating position and improperly
positioned safety belts.

Memory function
Memory for driver's seat
Applies to vehicles: with seat memory
The seat adjustment settings for two drivers con
be stored using the memory buttons in the driv­
er's door .

In addition to the setting for the driver's seat ,
the exterior rear view mirror setting can be stor­
ed and recalled through seat memory if the vehi­
cle is proper ly equ ipped .
Storing and recall ing s ettings
With the help of the memory buttons 1 and 2
¢ fig . 65 the settings for two different drivers
can be stored and recalled
¢ page 65.
The cu rrent sett ings are also automatically as ­
signed to the remote contro l key being used
when the vehicle is locked . When the vehicle is
un locked, the settings ass igned to the remote
control key being used are automatica lly reca l­
led.
Turning seat memory on and off
If the IO FFI sw itch is depressed, the seat memory
is inoperat ive . When the Memory fu nction is off,
the LED in the button lights up .
All the sto red se ttings a re retained. We recom­
mend us ing the
IO FF I sw itch and deactivating the
seat memory if the ve hicle is on ly going to be
used
temporarily by a driver whose settings are
not go ing to be stored .

sw itched off, tap the corresponding memory
button briefly .
.,. If the driver's door is closed or the ignition is
sw itched on, press the approp riate memory
button until the stored position is reached.

When the vehicle is locked , the current settings
are stored and assigned to the remote control
key . But the settings stored on memory buttons
1 to 2 are not de leted. They can be reca lled at
any time . When the vehicle is
unlocked , the set­
t ings assigned to the remote control key are re­
stored .
If your vehicle is driven by other persons using
your remote control key, you should save your in­
dividua l seat position o n one of the memory but­
tons . You can reca ll you r settings aga in simply
and conveniently by pressing the correspond ing
memo ry button. When the vehicle is loc ked,
t h ese settings are automatically re-ass igned to
t h e remo te contro l key and stored.

-
- For safety reasons, the seat sett ing can on ly
be recalled when the vehicle is stationa ry -
otherwise yo u risk having an accident .
- In an emergency the recall proced ure can be
cancelled by pressing the
! OF FI switch or by
tapp ing of the memory bu ttons.

The height and reach of the steering wheel can
be adjusted .

• Move the steer ing whee l to the desired posi­
t ion.
• Push the lever agains t the steering col umn un-
ti l it locks .
There m ust be at least 10 inches (25 cm) be­
tween your chest and the cente r of the steering
wheel. If you cannot sit more than 10 inches (25
cm) from the steering whee l, see if adaptive
eq uipment is available to help you reach the ped­
als and increase the distance from the steering
wheel.

A WARNING
Improper use of steering whee l adjustment
and improper seati ng position can cause ser i­
ous pe rsonal injury.
- Adjust the steering wheel column on ly when
the vehicle is not moving to prevent loss of
vehicle control.
- Adjust the dr iver's seat o r steering wheel so
that there is a min imum o f 10 inches (25
cm) be twee n your chest and the s teer ing
wheel

maintain t his minim um distance, the airbag
system cannot p rotect yo u properly.
- If physical limitations prevent you from sit­
ting 10 inches (25 cm) or more from the
steer ing whee l, check with your author ized
Aud i dea ler to see if adaptive equipment is
ava ilable.
- If the steer ing whee l is aligned with your
face, the s upplementa l dr iver's a irbag can­
not provide as much protect ion in an acci­
dent . Always make sure that the steer ing
wheel is alig ned wi th your chest.
- Always hold the steering w heel with your
hands at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock posi­
tions to reduce the ris k of pe rsonal injur y if
the dr ive r's ai rb ag de ploys .
- Never ho ld the stee ring w heel at t he 12
o' cl oc k position or with your hands inside
the stee ring wheel rim or on t he steering
wheel hub. Holding the steering w heel the
wrong way can cause se rious i njuries to the
hands, arms and head if the driver's airbag
deploys .
Ignition lock

The ignition is switched on and the engine start ­
ed with the ignition key.
