Driving instructions
Driving with a trailer always requires extra
cor e and consid eration.
To obta in the best poss ible handling of vehicle
and tra ile r, p le ase no te the following:
.. Do not tow a loaded tra iler when your car it­
self is not loaded.
.,. Be especia lly careful when pass ing othe r
vehicles .
.. Observe speed limits.
.. Do not driv e at the maximum p ermissible
speed.
.. Always apply brakes early.
.. Monitor the temperature gauge.
Weight di stributio n
Towing a loaded trai ler with an empty ca r re­
sults in a high ly unstable distribution of
weight . If this cannot be avoided, drive at very
l ow speeds only to avoid the risk of losing
steering control.
A "balanced" rig is eas ier to operate and con ­
trol. This means that the tow vehicle should
be loaded to the extent possible and permiss i­
ble, while keeping the trailer as light as possi­
b le under the circumstances. Whenever possi­
b le, transfer some cargo to the luggage com­
pa rtment of the tow veh icle wh ile observing
tongue load requirements and vehicle loading
considerations .
Speed
The higher the speed, the more difficult it be­
comes for the driver to control the rig . Do not
drive at the maximum permiss ible speed . Re- duce your speed even more i
f load, weather or
wind conditions are unfavorable - particularly
when going downhill.

er shows the slightest s ign of sway ing.

t ry to stop the swa ying by acceleratin g.
Observe speed limits. In some a reas, speeds
f or vehicles tow ing tra ile rs are lower than for
r egular vehicles.
Always apply brakes early. When driving down hill, shift into a lowe r gear to use the en­
gine braking effect to s low the vehicle . U se o f
the brakes alone can cause them to overheat
and fail.
Coolant temperature
T he coo lant tempe ratu re gauge ~ page 10
must be observed caref ully. If the need le
moves close to the upper end of the scale, re­
duce speed immediately and/or turn off the
air conditioner.
If the coolant temperature warn ing light in
the instr ume nt cluster starts flashing., pull
off the road , stop and let the engine
idle for
about two min utes to prevent heat build -up .
A WARNING "--
Anyone not proper ly restrained in a mov-
i ng vehicle is at a much greater risk in an
accident. Never let anyone ride in your car
who is not properly wearing the restraints
p rov ided by Audi .
Trailer towing tips
Important to know
Your vehicle handles d ifferently when towing
-
a trai ler because of the additional weight and
different weight distr ibut ion. Safety, perform­
ance and economy will great ly depend on how
ca refully you load your tra iler and operate
yo ur rig .
Before you act ua lly tow your tra iler, practice
turning, stopping and backing up in an area
away from traffic. Keep pract ic ing unt il you

have become completely familiar with the way
your vehicle-trailer combination behaves and responds.
Backing up is difficu lt and requires practice.
Backing up with a trai ler genera lly requires
steering action opposite to that when backing up your vehicle without a trailer .
Maintain a greater distance between your ve­
hicle and the one in front of you. You will need
more room to stop . To compensate for the
trai ler, you will need a larger than norma l
turning radius.
When passing, remember that you cannot ac ­
celerate as fast as you normally would be ­
cause of the added load . Make sure you have
enough room to pass. After passing, allow plenty of room for your tra iler before chang­
ing lanes again .
Avoid jerky starts, sharp turns or rapid lane
changes.
@ Tips
- Do not tow a traile r during the break-in
period of your vehicle.
- If you tow a trailer, your A udi may re­
quire more frequent maintenance due to
the extra load

Parking on a slope
Do not park on a slope with a trailer. If it can­
not be avoided, do so only after doing the fol­
lowing:
When parking:
.. Apply the foot brake .
.. Have someone place chocks under both the
vehicle and the trai ler wheels .
.. With chocks in place, slowly re lease the
brakes until the wheel chocks absorb the
load .
.. Turn the wheels towards the curb .
.. Apply the parking brake.
.. Move the selector lever to P.
When restarting after parking:
.. Apply the foot brake.

.. Move the selector lever to D.
.. Release the parking brake and s low ly pull
out and away from the wheel chocks.
.. Stop and have someone retr ieve the wheel
chocks.

If you move the selector lever of the auto­

General information
Regular, proper care helps to maintain your
ve hicle 's value. It can also be a requirement
when subm itting warranty claims for co rro ­
sion damage and paint defec ts on the body .
The required cleaning and care prod ucts can
be obtained from your authorized Audi dea ler
or a qualified workshop. Read and follow the
i nstr uctions for use on th e packaging .

Car washes

The longer deposits remai n on t he veh icle, the
mo re the surface ca n be damaged. H igh tem­
pe rat ures such as those caused by su nlight in­
cre ase the d amaging effe cts.
Before washing, wet heavy deposi ts w ith p len ­
ty of wate r.
Stubbor n depos its s uch as bird dropp ings or
tree sap are best removed with plen ty of wa­
ter and a m icrofiber cloth .
A lso, was h the underside of your vehicle once
road salt stop s be ing used for the season.
Pres sure washers
When wash ing your ve hicles w ith a pressure
washer, always follow the operating instr uc­
tions provided w ith the pressure washe r. T his
is especially important in regard to the pres- s
u re and sp raying dis tance. Do not aim the
s p ray direct ly at sea ls on side windows, doo rs,
t h e hood, the rear lid o r the sunroof* or at
t ires, rubber hoses, insu lating material, sen ­
sors" or camera lenses*. Keep a d ista nce of at
least 16 inches (40 cm) .
Do not rem ove snow and ice with a pressu re
washer.
Never use rotary nozzles or high pressure noz­
zles .
T he wate r te mperature m ust not be above

Automatic car washes
S pr ay off the ve hicle befo re washing .
Make sure that the w indows and roof * are
closed and the winds hield wipers are off. Fol­
low instructions from the ca r wash operator,
especially if there are accesso ries attached to
you r vehicle .
If possible, use car washes that do not have
brushes .
Washing by hand
Clean the ve hicle starti ng from the to p and
wor king down using a soft sponge or cleaning
brush. Use solvent-free clean ing products .
Washing vehicles with matte finish paint
by hand
To avoid damaging the paint when washing,
first remove dust and large particles from
yo ur vehicle. Insects, grease spots and fi nger­
pr ints are best removed w ith a spec ial cleane r
for matte finish paint .
Apply t he prod uct using a microfiber cloth. To
avo id damaging the pa int surface, do not use
too much pressure.
Rinse the ve hicle thoroughly with water. Then
clean using a neutra l shampoo and a soft mi­
crofiber cloth.
Rinse the ve hicl e thoro ughly again and let it
air dry. Remove any water residue using a
shammy.

AdBlue .

The AdBlue fi ller tube is located near the die­
sel filler tube . A lways add 1 gallon (3 .8 liters)
of AdBlue (two bottles). This is the m inimum
amount requ ired to ensure the system detects
the ref illing a nd to start the engine . The Ad Bl­
ue tank capac ity is approximate ly 6 ga llons
(2 3 liters) .
Opening the filler tube and adding

Requirement : The requ est to add Ad B lue must
appear in the ins trumen t cl uste r display.
• Switch the ign ition off .

• Turn the cap counte rclockw ise wit h the lug
wrenc h fro m the veh icle tool kit to remove it

• Remove the cap from the refill bottle.
• Pos ition the refill bott le on the filler tube
and tu rn the bottle clockwise until it stops
turning

• Press ligh tly against the bottom of t he bot ­
tle @to empty it. Continue pressing the
bottom of the bottle unt il it is empty or un ­
til f lu id stops flow ing into the tank.
• Turn the bottle to t he left w ithout pressing
on the bottom .
Closing the filler tube
• Turn the cap clockwise on the filler tu be
w ith the l ug wrench until you hear it t ighten
completely .
• Close the tank cover.
After filling
The vehicle must be driven . The system may
take up to two minutes to detect that the
AdB lue has been f illed.
• If the re was no Ad Blue left in the tank and a
range of
O mi (0 km ) was displayed in the
instrument cluster, switch the ig nition on
for about 15 seconds before start ing the en­
gine.
A WARNING >=
Ad B lue can irritate the s kin, eyes and res-
p ira to ry system . If there is contac t wit h
the fluid, flush immediat ely with plenty of
w at er. Co nsult a phys icia n if necessa ry.
(D Note
- Only use Ad B lue that conforms to the
standard ISO 22241-1. Do not mix any
add itives w ith th e AdBl ue and do no t di­
l ut e it with water.
- Do not add Ad Bl ue to the d iese l tank or

the functionality and service life of the en­
g ine. Your engine was factory -filled with a
h igh-quality oil which can usually be used
t h roughout the entire year.
Your Limited New Vehicle Warranty does not cover damage or ma lf u nctions due to
fa ilure to follow recommended mainte­
nance and use requirements as set forth in
the Audi Owner's Manual and Warranty
&
Ma intenance booklet .
- Use only a high quality eng ine oil that ex­
pressly complies w ith the Audi o il quality
sta ndard specified for your veh icle's e n­
gine . U sing any other oil can cause seri­
ous eng ine dam age.
- Do not m ix any l ubrica nts o r othe r addi­
tives into the eng ine oi l. Doing so can
ca use eng ine damage.
I f you need to add oil and there is no ne
availab le tha t mee ts the Audi o il qua lity
s t andard your engine requires, yo u may
add a tota l of no more than 0 .5 quart/ liter
of a high -quality "synthetic"oil t hat meets
the following specifications.
- Vehicles with gaso line engine: ACEA A3
or API S M with a viscosity grade of
SAE OW-30, SAE SW-30 or SA E SW-40.
- Vehicles with diesel engine: ACEA C3 o r
API CF with a v iscosity grade of
SAE OW-30 or SAE SW-30.

Eng ine oil consumption
To provide effect ive lub rication and cooling for
internal engine pa rts, all inte rnal combust ion
engines use some oil. Oil consumption varies

from engine to engine and may change ove r
the life of the engine. Engines tend to use
more o il during the break-in period than they
do afterward, when o il cons umption has sta­
bili zed. Depending on the way the vehicle is
driven and the operati ng conditions, oil con ­
sumption can be up to 1 quart per 1,200
mil es(! lite r per 2,000 km) . Consumption
may be higher wi thin the fi rs t 3,000 m iles
(5,000 km) .
Un der normal cond itions, the rate of oil con­
sumption depends on o il quality as well as v is­
cosity, engine speed (rpm), outs ide tempera­
ture, road condi tions, the amount of oil d il u ­
t ion caused by condensed water or fue l resi­
due, and oxidation of the oi l. Oi l consump tion
may inc rease with engine wear over time, un ­
ti l replacement of worn engine parts may be ­
come necessary.
Beca use of all these variables, there is no
standard or "norma l" rate of o il cons umption .
We urge you to check the engine oil le vel at
regular intervals, p referably e very time you
fill the fuel tank, and always before a long
trip .
The oil p ressure wa rning light. is not an
indicato r of low engine oil le vel. If the wa rn ­
ing light does not go out after starting, or
flash es while dri ving (above 1500 rpm ), a
buzzer will sound . It indicates that the oil
pres sure is too low. Stop the engine immedi­
ately, che ck the engine oil level and add oil if
n ec ess ary. If the engine oil level i s normal,
but the light continues to flash , do not keep
driving or let the engine idle, as dam age may
occur .
If you believe yo ur engine uses too much o il,
we recommend that you consul t your author ­
ized Audi dea ler so that the ca use of yo ur con­
cern can be proper ly diagnosed . Keep in mind
that acc urate measurement of oil consump­
tion req uires great care and may take some
time . Your Audi dealer h as ins truc tions for
how to measure oil consumption accurately .

tire as soon as possible.
- Inspect your tires every 2 ,000 miles (3,000
km) for damage and wear. Damage is not a l­
ways easy to see . Damage can lead to loss of
air and underinflation, which could eventu­
ally cause tire failure. If you be lieve that a
t ire may have been damaged, replace the
t ire as soon as possible .
- These tires may wear more quick ly than oth­
ers .
- Please also remember that, while these tires
deliver respons ive handling, they may ride
less comfortably and make more noise than
other cho ices .
Reduced perform ance in winte r/cold
s eason conditions
All tires are des igned for certai n purposes.
The low aspect ratio, ultra high pe rformance
tires orig inally installed on your veh icle are in­
tended fo r max imum dry and wet road per­
formance and handling . They are not s uitable
for cold, snowy or icy weather conditions. If
you drive under those circumstances, you should equip your vehicle with all-season or
winter tires, which offer better traction under those cond itions . We suggest you use the rec­
ommended snow or all-season tires specified
for your vehicle, or their equ ivalent .

Tire pressure
monitoring system
(D General notes
Each t ire, includ ing the spare (if provided),
should be checked monthly when cold and in­
flated to the inflation pressure recommended
by the vehicle manufacturer on the vehicle
p lacard or tire inflation pressure label. (If your
ve hicl e has t ires of a different size than the
si ze ind icated on the vehicle p lacard or tire in­
flation pressure label, yo u should determine
the proper tire inflation pressure for those
tires).
Tire s an d wheel s 301
As an added safety featu re, your veh icle has
been equipped with a tire pressure monitoring
system (TPMS) that illum inates a low tire
pressure telltale when one or more of your
tires is significantly under-inflated. According­
ly, when the low tire pressure telltale illumi ­
nates, you should stop and check your tires as
soon as possib le, and inflate them to the
proper pressu re. Driving on a sign ifi cantly un­
der- infla ted ti re causes the tire to overhea t
and can lead to tire fa ilure . Unde r-inflation al­
so reduces fuel efficiency and tire tread life,
and may affect the vehicle's handling and
stopp ing ability.
Please note that the TPMS is not a substitute
for proper tire maintenance, and it is the driv ­
er's responsibility to maintain correct tire
pressure, even if under-inflation has not
reached the level to tr igger illuminat ion of the
TPMS low tire pressure tellta le.
Your vehicle has also been equipped with a
T PMS malfunction ind icator to ind icate when
the system is not operating properly . The
TPMS malfunction indicator is combined with
the low tire pressure telltale . Whe n the sys ­
tem detects a malfunction , the telltale will
flash for approximate ly one m inute and then
rema in continuously illum inated . Thi s se ­
quence will continue upon s ubseque nt vehicle
start-ups as long as the malfunct ion exists.
When the malfunction indicato r is illum inat­
ed, the sys tem may not be ab le to detect or
s ignal low tire pressure as intended. TPMS
malfunctions may occur for a var iety of rea­
sons, including the insta llation of rep lace­
ment or a lternate tires or wheels on the vehi­
cle that prevent the TPMS from functioning
properly. Always check the TPMS malfunction
telltale after rep lacing one or more tires or
whee ls on your vehicle to ensure that the re ­
placeme nt or alternate ti res and wheels allow
the TPMS to cont inue to funct ion p rope rly . •
