Tightening
Fasteners

When
tighteningthe
bolts
ornuts
that
attach
acomponent,
it

is
always
good
practice
to
tighten
the
bolts
gradually
and
evenly

to
avoid
misalignment
or
over
stressing
anyone
portion
of
the

component
.
For
components
sealed
with
gaskets,
this
method

helps
to
ensure
that
thegasket
will
seal
properly
and
complete-

ly
.

Where
there
are
severa¡
fasteners,
tighten
them
in
a
se-

quence
alternating
between
opposite
sides
of
the
component
.

emissions-related
fault
has
occurred

Faults
suchas
a
failed
oxygen
sensor
or
a
faultyfuelinjector
can

light
on,
causing
the
exhaust
or
evaporative
emissions
to

exceed
a
specified
limit

The
engine
can
be
safely
driven
with

the
light
on,
although
the
emission
systems
should
be
checked

possible

Headlights
and
instrument
panel
illuminationthat

dim

gradually

dimmer

are
dimming

case,

gine
and
accessories
are
running
off

the
battery
alone,

soon
discharge
it
altogether

stop

engine
unless

jump
start

enough
power

starting
system

the
engine

off

electrical
consumers

reduce

Brake
fluid
absorbs
moisture
easily,

fluid

performance

flushed
from

years

fluid,
use
only
new
(luid
from
previously
unopened
containers
.
Do
not
use
brake
fluid
that
has
been
bled
from
