WARNING LIGHTS AND INDICATORS
Central STOP
warning light
T h i s fl a s h e s f o r a f e w
seconds each time the ignition is
switched on. Linked with the warnings:
- "engine oil pressure",
- "coolant temperature",
Stop immediately if this light comes
on with the engine running.
Consult a CITROËN dealer.
Engine oil pressure
warning light
This comes on each time the
ignition is switched on until
the engine is started.
If it comes on linked with the STOP
warning light, with the engine running,
this indicates that the oil pressure is
too low.
Stop immediately.
Consult a CITROËN dealer.
Coolant temperature
warning light
This comes on for a few seconds each
time the ignition is switched on.
If this warning light comes on, with
the engine running, this indicates Anti-lock braking
system (ABS) warning
light
This comes on for a few seconds each
time the ignition is switched on.
Fixed lighting indicates a malfunction
of the ABS.
However, the vehicle retains conven-
tional braking with assistance.
Consult a CITROËN dealer.
Handbrake, low brake
fluid level and braking
system warning light
This comes on each time the ignition
is switched on until the handbrake is
released. Electric power steering
warning light
This comes on for a few seconds each
time the ignition is switched on.
Fixed lighting, when the vehicle is
moving, indicates a malfunction of
the electric steering system.
Consult a CITROËN dealer.
an abnormal increase in the coolant
temperature.
Stop immediately .
Check the coolant level.
To do this, wait until the engine has
cooled before topping up the level.
The cooling system is pressurised.
When checking the level, and
to avoid any risk of scalding,
unscrew the cap 1/4 of a turn
to allow the pressure to drop.
When the pressure has dropped,
remove the cap.
Then:
1. top up, if necessary
(see "Levels").
2. or, if the level is satisfactory,
contact a CITROËN dealer. Fixed lighting, with the engine running,
indicates one of the following:
- that the handbrake is applied
or has not been released fully,
when the vehicle is moving,
- an excessive drop in the brake fl u i d l e v e l ( i f t h e w a r n i n g l i g h t
remains on even with the
handbrake released),
- a braking system fault.
Stop immediately.
Consult a CITROËN dealer.

CHECKS
CHECKING THE LEVELS
There are two marks
on the dipstick:
A = maximum
I f y o u fi l l p a s t t h i s
mark, contact a
CITROËN dealer.
B = minimum
Never allow the level
to fall below this mark.
Dipstick
Oil change
According to the information given in
the servicing booklet. Changing the brake fluid

the intervals stated, according to the
manufacturer's servicing schedule.

Windscreen wash level
For best quality cleaning and for your
safety, we would advise that you
use products recommended by your
manufacturer.
Consult a CITROËN dealer.
Viscosity selection
In all cases, the oil selected must meet
the manufacturer's requirements. Cooling system
Used oil
Avoid prolonged contact of used oil
with the skin.

very corrosive.
To maintain the reliability of
engines and emission control
systems, the use of additives
in engine oil is prohibited. Slacken the cap by 1/4 of a
turn to release the pressure
t o p r e v e n t a n y r i s k o f s c a l d -
ing. When the pressure has
dropped, remove the cap and top up
the level. O n l y u s e t h e fl u i d r e c o m -
m e n d e d b y t h e m a n u f a c -
turer.
Otherwise, you risk seriously
damaging your engine.
Do not dispose of used oil,
b r a k e fl u i d o r c o o l a n t i n t o
drains or into the ground.
Empty the used oil into the
containers provided for this
purpose in the CITROËN network.
Oil level
Check the level regularly and top up
between changes. The maximum
consumption is 0.5 l per 600 miles
(1 000 km).
Check the level with the vehicle level,
engine cold, using the dipstick.
W h e n t h e e n g i n e i s w a r m , t h e t e m -
perature of the coolant is controlled
b y t h e e n g i n e f a n . A s t h i s f a n c a n o p -
erate with the ignition key removed
and because the cooling system is
pressurised, wait for at least one hour
after the engine has stopped before
carrying out any work.

CHECKS Oil filter
C h a n g e t h e fi l t e r r e g u l a r l y , i n a c c o r -
dance with the servicing schedule. O n l y u s e p r o d u c t s r e c o m -
mended by CITROËN or
products of equivalent quality
and characteristics.
I n o r d e r t o o p t i m i s e t h e o p -
eration of units as important as the
braking circuit, CITROËN selects
a n d o f f e r s s p e c i fi c p r o d u c t s .
I n o r d e r t o a v o i d d a m a g i n g t h e e l e c -
trical units, high pressure washing
to clean the engine compartment is
strictly prohibited.
To check the main levels and certain
components, in accordance with the
manufacturer's servicing schedule,
refer to the pages of the servicing
booklet which correspond to your
vehicle's engine.
Battery
A t t h e s t a r t o f w i n t e r , h a v e y o u r b a t -
tery checked by a CITROËN dealer.
Air filter and passenger
compartment filter
H a v e t h e fi l t e r e l e m e n t s r e p l a c e d r e g u -
larly.
If you drive in dusty conditions,
change them twice as often.
Brake pads
Brake pad wear depends on the style
of driving, in particular for vehicles
which are used in town, over short
distances.
Disc and drum wear status
For any information relating to disc
and drum surface wear, contact a
CITROËN dealer. Manual gearbox
H a v e t h e l e v e l c h e c k e d i n a c c o r -
d a n c e w i t h t h e m a n u f a c t u r e r ' s s e r -
vicing schedule.
RUNNING OUT OF FUEL (DIESEL)
It may be necessary to check
the thickness of the pads,
even between services.
I f t h e e n g i n e s t o p s , i t i s p o s -
sible to restart it to drive a
short distance by operating
the pump at least 10 times.
I f y o u r u n o u t o f f u e l , t h e c i r -
cuit must be reprimed:
- fi l l t h e f u e l t a n k w i t h a t l e a s t fi v e litres of diesel,
- s q u e e z e a n d r e l e a s e t h e m a n u a l repriming pump at least 10 times.
This is located under the protective
c o v e r w h i c h m u s t fi r s t b e u n c l i p p e d
and then removed,
- o p e r a t e t h e s t a r t e r u n t i l t h e e n - gine starts.
Notes: if the engine does
not start after approximately
1 5 s e c o n d s o f a t t e m p t s , o p -
erate the repriming pump
a g a i n a p p r o x i m a t e l y fi f t e e n t i m e s b e -
fore trying again.
If the emission control warning light has
come on, it will only switch off after your
vehicle has been used several times.
Handbrake
Where the handbrake travel is too
great or there is a reduction in the
performance of the system, the
handbrake should be adjusted, even
between services.
Have the system checked by a
CITROËN dealer.
