RE-ASP
IRATION CONDITIONS
The canister-purging valve is controlled by pin 4 of the UCE injection, when : - water tempera ture > 50
oC;
- air tempera ture > 15
oC;
- the valve position outside idle position.
It is possible the reading of the RCO value ( opening cyclic ratio ) of the canister
purging valve, by means of the CLIP tester.
THE CHECKING OF THE CANISTER PURGING VALVE OPERATION
A non-operation of t he petrol vapors re-a spiration system may lead to the fuel c on-
sumption increase and to a unstable idling. It is necessary to check if the purging valve exit is correctly connected to the carbon
canister. Check also the piping condition between the canister and the fuel tank (sealing,
clogging on layout). PETROL VAPOURS-ASPIRATION

14E7J-A-2/60 ENGINE ANTI-POLLUTION
Check at idling if there is a depression, by fitting a pressure gauge (-3…+ 3 bars) at the
purging valve exit (B) t owards canister. Is there any depression?
YES - Set off the contact . Using a vacuum pump, apply a 500 mbars depression at
the (C ) connection of t he purging valve. The value of t he re ad depre ssion must not vary
more than 10 mbars within 30 seconds. If change i s more than 10 mbars, then purging
valve is damaged and must be replaced. Valve cleaning of small active carbon part icles
may be tried, by low-pressure compressed air blowing at the valve (B) connection NO - When conditions of purging valve controlling are accomplished and this one
does not open, c heck its control electric circ uit ( be tween UCE i njection pin 4 and purging
valve), from continuity or short-circuit point of view. The RCO value of the signal received by the purging valve from the computer, may be
read by means of the CLIP tester in PROL 23. The m inimal value is of 0.7% (corresponding
to the closed position of the purging valve).
P
LACING - DIS M O UNT ING

off the planetary pi nion of the gearbox; The electric conductors of the alternator a re disconnected;
The screw of the alternator is taken off;
The alterna tor is taken apart laterally past the right-side planetary tra nsmission.
R
E-MOUNT ING
The taking-apart opera tions are done in the reverse order;
The carrying belt of the alternator is stretched to obtain the mounting tension recom-
mended (263 Hz +/- 10% );
The position of the alternator i s blocked;
The engine is revolved thre e and a half cra nkshaft turns;
The reading end of the MOT. 1505 measuring device is placed in the measuring area;
The tension in the belt is measured;
It is checked whether t his fits into the mounting tension tolera nce; if not , the belt will be
str etched again until the re commended tension ( 263 Hz +/- 10%) is reached.
The i nspection and the adjustment of the belt are done with the engine at ambient
temperature .
Tighten at the require d moment, the alternator a ttachment screws :- screw M10 (lower attachment)-5 daNm
-screw M10 (upper attachment)-2.2 daNm.

THE ANTI-START FUNCTION
R
EPLACING UCE INJE CT IO N CAL CUL ATOR
The UCE injection
calculator is delivered without a code, but it is able to memorize a code.
When mounting a new c alculator, it will have to memorize the code anti-start fuction
singularity of this car, then one has to check if the a nti-start function is operational. In
order to do that, the following operations must be done: -the contact is set for a fe w seconds, then it is taken out;
-after t aking out the key, the anti-start function is actived.
I
NSPE CT ING THE ANT I - ST ART FUNCT IO N
Take the key out of the contact and after 10 seconds the anti-start light indicator on the
board must begin to flash on and off. When setting the contact on, the anti-start ing indicator must turn off.
THE INFLUENCE OF THE AIR-CONDITIONINGON THE INJECTION SYSTEM
The air-conditioning installation ( AC) uses a variable cylinder-volume compressor.
There are the following connections between the air-co nditioning and the petrol injection system:
-pin no. 46 of t he injection calculator re ceives the i nformation “ solicit accelera ted
idle mode” when the button for t he air-conditioning i nstallation is pre ssed and the pres-
su re of the freon in the installation is above a limit.
-the i nformation “ absorbed power” does not infl uence the idle m ode re gime, but lets
the calculator know about the value of the couple taken by the compressor, and the calcu-
lator will opera te the step-by-step engine, through pins nos. 12, 41, 42 and 72, in order to
compensate for the couple fall. With the tester it can read in t he m enu : « Parameters l ist «
the power absorbed by the compre ssor, wich will be between 300 and 5000 W. The value
that is re ad will be of m inimum 300 W, irre spective of the coupled / uncoupled state of the
compressor.
-pin no. 10 of the injection calculator will command the E relay located in the fuse-
box of the engine compartment, which will couple the compressor.
The injection calculator c an prohibit the coupling of the AC compre ssor:
-it does not allow the coupling of the compresso r before 10 seconds after the starting of the engine;
-accordi ng to the couple re quired from t he e ngine by the driver - a nd in cert ain
s ituations according to the power absorbed by t he c ompressor - the calculator c an forbid or
authorize the starting of the compressor;
-if the water temperature is higher than, or equal to 11 5
oC, the therm ic prot ection is oper-
ated, which will not authori ze the start ing of the compre ssor; -the overload protection doe s not permit t he coupling of t he compressor when the
revolution ratio of the engine is over 5900 rot/min.

IDLING REGIME ADJUSTMENT DUE TO BATTERY VOLTAGE
The idle mode of t he engine is influenced by the voltage of the battery with a view t o
compensating the voltage fa ll caused by the coupling of the consumers when the battery is
poorly charge d; this imposes an increase in the idle mode revolution ra tio, so the ratio of
the alternator will be incre ased by increasing the charging voltage. The lower the voltage,
the more significant the correction applied, which begins under 12.7 V.
The idle mode regime can thus be incre ased up to 830 rot/min.
If the injection calculator receives the information “command AC coupling”, then the
idle mode revolution ra tio will go up to 850 rot/min.

P
RINCIPL E:
In order to use the information related to the parameters value “PR 021= RCO idling“
and “ PR 022= RCO idling”, the CLIP tester is to be used, which will be connected at the
diagnosis socket and at the vehicle battery ( or lighter socket). Select on tester m enu “COMPUTERS TEST”, then “PETROL INJECTION” . Find then
“FUNCTIONS TEST” and read here the progress of the PR 021 and PR 022 parameters.
In normal operation conditions, warm engine, the value RCO idling ( PR 022 ) is changing
between a maximal a nd a minimal value, so that nominal idling RPM is obtained. It is
possible that further to an operation dispersion ( runni ng in, engine choking up,etc) the
value “RCO idling” to get closer t o the minimal or m aximal value. The adaptive correction (PR 021 ) on “ RCO idling” (PR 022) is allowing r eaching at slow
variations of the engine air necessities, so that “RCO idling” is re-set on an average nominal
value. The parameters PR 021 and PR 022 are progressing among the following limits :
