Note:If you switch the auto mode on, thesystem attempts to heat or cool the interiorto 72°F (22°C).
Note:When you switch the ignition on, theclimate control system returns to the lastused settings.
Note:The heated windshield, heated rearwindow, heated mirrors, heated seats andheated steering wheel could turn on in coldweather.

Saving a Preset Position
1.Switch the ignition on.
2.Adjust the memory features to yourpreferred position.
3.Press and hold the preferred presetbutton until you hear a single tone.
You can save up to three preset memorypositions at any time.
Recalling a Preset Position
Press and release a preset button.
Note:You can only recall a preset memoryposition when the ignition is off, or when thetransmission is in park (P) or neutral (N) ifthe ignition is on.
You can also recall a preset memoryposition by:
•Pressing the unlock button on yourintelligent access key fob if it is linkedto a preset position.
•Unlocking the intelligent driver doorhandle if a linked key fob is present.
Note:When the ignition is off and you usea linked key fob to recall your memoryposition, the seat moves to the easy entryposition.
Note:Pressing any of the preset buttonsduring a memory recall cancels theoperation.
Seat recall movement also stops if youdrive your vehicle.
Linking a Preset Position to yourRemote Control or IntelligentAccess Key Fob
You can save preset memory positions forup to three remote controls or intelligentaccess keys.
1.With the ignition on, move the memorypositions to the preferred positions.
2.Press and hold a preset button for fiveseconds. A tone sounds after twoseconds. Continue holding until youhear a second tone.
3.Within three seconds, press the lockbutton on the remote control you arelinking.
To unlink a remote control, follow thesame procedure – except in step 3, pressthe unlock button on the remote control.
Note:If more than one linked remotecontrol or intelligent access key is in range,the memory function moves to the settingsof the first key to initiate a memory recall.
Easy Entry and Exit Feature
If you enable the easy entry and exitfeature, it moves the driver seat positionrearward up to 2 in (5 cm) when you switchthe ignition off.
The driver seat returns to the previousposition when you switch the ignition on.
You can enable or disable this featurethrough the information display. SeeInformation Displays (page 98).

•Without applying the brake pedal,press and release the button oncewhen the ignition is in the on mode, orwhen the engine is running but thevehicle is not moving.
On: All electrical circuits are operationaland the warning lamps and indicatorsilluminate.
•Without applying the brake pedal,press and release the button once.
Start: Starts the engine.
•Press the brake pedal (automatictransmission) or clutch pedal (manualtransmission), and then press thebutton for any length of time. Anindicator light on the button illuminateswhen the ignition is on and when theengine starts.
STEERING WHEEL LOCK (IF
EQUIPPED)
Your vehicle has an electronicallycontrolled steering wheel lock thatautomatically operates.
The steering wheel will lock shortly afteryou have parked your vehicle and thepassive key is outside it or when you lockyour vehicle.
Note:The steering wheel will not lock whenthe ignition is on or when your vehicle ismoving.
Unlocking the Steering Wheel
The steering wheel unlocks when thesystem detects a valid passive key insideyour vehicle. If the steering wheel relocks,switch the ignition on to unlock it.
Note:You may have to slightly rotate thesteering wheel to assist unlocking it.
STARTING A GASOLINE
ENGINE
When you start the engine, the idle speedincreases, this helps to warm up theengine. If the engine idle speed does notslow down, have your vehicle checked assoon as possible.
Note: You can crank the engine for a totalof 60 seconds without the engine startingbefore the starting system temporarilydisables. The 60 seconds does not have tobe all at once. For example, if you crank theengine three times for 20 seconds eachtime, without the engine starting, youreached the 60-second time limit. Amessage appears in the information displayalerting you that you exceeded the crankingtime. You cannot attempt to start theengine for at least 15 minutes. After 15minutes, you are limited to a 15-secondengine cranking time. You need to wait 60minutes before you can crank the engine for60 seconds again.
Before starting the engine, check thefollowing:
•Make sure all occupants have fastenedtheir seatbelts.
•Make sure the headlamps andelectrical accessories are off.
•Make sure the parking brake is on.
•Move the transmission selector leverto park (P) (automatic transmission)or neutral (N) (manual transmission)
Note:Do not touch the accelerator pedal.
Note:You must have your intelligent accesskey in the vehicle in order to shift thetransmission out of position P.
1.Fully press the brake pedal.
2.Press the button.

The system does not function if:
•The key frequencies are jammed.
•The key battery has no charge.
If you are unable to start the engine, do thefollowing:
1.Remove the rubber covering (A) in thecupholder.
2.Place the remote in the backup slot (B)with the buttons facing up and thekeyring toward the front of the vehicle.
3.With the key in this position, press thebrake pedal (automatic transmission)or clutch pedal (manual transmission),then the START button to switch theignition on and start your vehicle.
Fast Restart
The fast restart feature allows you torestart the engine within 20 seconds ofswitching it off, even if a valid key is notpresent.
Within 20 seconds of switching the engineoff, press the brake pedal (automatictransmission) or clutch pedal (manualtransmission) and press the button. After20 seconds have expired, you can nolonger restart the engine without the keypresent inside your vehicle.
Once the engine has started, it remainsrunning until you press the button, even ifthe system does not detect a valid key. Ifyou open and close a door while the engineis running, the system searches for a validkey. You cannot restart the engine if thesystem does not detect a valid key within20 seconds.
Failure to Start
If you cannot start the engine after threeattempts, wait 10 seconds and follow thisprocedure:
1.If your vehicle has an automatictransmission, fully press the brakepedal. If your vehicle has a manualtransmission, fully press the clutchpedal and apply the handbrake.
2.Move the transmission selector leverto park (P) (automatic transmission)or neutral (N) (manual transmission).
3.Fully press the accelerator pedal andhold it there.
4.Attempt to start your vehicle and waituntil the engine stops cranking.
5.Release the accelerator pedal.
6.Start the engine.
Automatic Engine Shutdown
Your vehicle has a feature thatautomatically shuts down the engine if ithas been idling for an extended period. Theignition also turns off in order to savebattery power. Before the engine shutsdown, a message appears in theinformation display showing a timercounting down from 30 seconds. If you donot intervene within 30 seconds, the engineshuts down. Another message appears inthe information display to inform you thatthe engine has shut down in order to savefuel. Start your vehicle as you normally do.

Automatic Engine Shutdown Override
Note: You cannot permanently switch offthe automatic engine shutdown feature.When you switch it off temporarily, it turnson at the next ignition cycle.
You can stop the engine shutdown, or resetthe timer, at any point before the30-second countdown has expired bydoing any of the following:
•You can reset the timer by interactingwith your vehicle, such as pressing thebrake pedal or accelerator pedal.
•You can temporarily switch off theshutdown feature any time the ignitionis on for the current ignition cycle only.Use the information display to do so.See Information Displays (page 98).
•During the countdown before engineshutdown, you are prompted to pressOK or RESET, depending on your typeof information display, to temporarilyswitch the feature off for the currentignition cycle only.
Stopping the Engine When YourVehicle is Stationary
1.Move the transmission selector leverto park (P) (automatic transmission)or neutral (N) (manual transmission).
2.Press the button once.
3.Apply the parking brake.
Note:This switches off the ignition, allelectrical circuits, warning lamps andindicators.
Note:If the engine is idling for 30 minutes,the ignition and engine automatically shutdown.
Stopping the Engine When YourVehicle is Moving
WARNING: Switching off theengine when your vehicle is still movingresults in a significant decrease inbraking assistance. Higher effort isrequired to apply the brakes and to stopyour vehicle. A significant decrease insteering assistance could also occur. Thesteering does not lock, but higher effortcould be required to steer your vehicle.When you switch the ignition off, someelectrical circuits, for example airbags,also turn off. If you unintentionally switchthe ignition off, shift into neutral (N) andrestart the engine.
1.Press and hold the button for onesecond, or press it three times withintwo seconds.
2.Move the transmission selector leverto the neutral position and use thebrakes to bring your vehicle to a safestop.
3.When your vehicle has stopped, movethe transmission selector lever to park(P) (automatic transmission) orneutral (N) (manual transmission).
4.Apply the parking brake.
Guarding Against Exhaust Fumes
WARNING: Exhaust leaks mayresult in entry of harmful and potentiallylethal fumes into the passengercompartment. If you smell exhaustfumes inside your vehicle, have yourvehicle inspected immediately. Do notdrive if you smell exhaust fumes.

5.Operate the fuel pump nozzle withinthe area shown.
6.When you finish refueling slightly raisethe fuel pump nozzle and slowlyremove it.
7.Fully close the fuel filler door.
Do not attempt to start the engine if youhave filled the fuel tank with incorrect fuel.Incorrect fuel use could cause damage notcovered by the vehicle Warranty. Have yourvehicle immediately checked.
Refueling System Warning (If Equipped)
If the fuel tank filler valve does not fullyclose, a message could appear in theinformation display.
Message
Check Fuel Fill Inlet
If the message appears, do the following:
1.Stop your vehicle as soon as it is safeto do so and switch the engine off.
2.Shift into park (P) or neutral (N).
3.Apply the parking brake.
4.Fully open the fuel filler door.
5.Check the fuel tank filler valve for anydebris that may be restricting itsmovement.
6.Remove any debris from the fuel tankfiller valve.
7.Fully insert a fuel pump nozzle or thefuel filler funnel provided with yourvehicle into the fuel filler pipe. SeeFuel Filler Funnel Location (page153). This action should dislodge anydebris that may be preventing the fueltank filler valve from fully closing.
8.Remove the fuel pump nozzle or fuelfiller funnel from the fuel filler pipe.
9.Fully close the fuel filler door.
Note:The message may not immediatelyreset. If the message continues to appearand a warning lamp illuminates, have yourvehicle checked as soon as possible.
FUEL CONSUMPTION
Advertised Capacity
The advertised capacity is the maximumamount of fuel that you can add to the fueltank after running out of fuel. Included inthe advertised capacity is an emptyreserve. The empty reserve is anunspecified amount of fuel that remainsin the fuel tank when the fuel gaugeindicates empty.
Note:The amount of fuel in the emptyreserve varies and should not be relied uponto increase driving range.

Filling the Fuel Tank
For consistent results when refueling:
•Switch the ignition off before fueling,an inaccurate reading results if youleave the engine running.
•Use the same fill rate,low-medium-high, each time you fillthe tank.
•Allow no more than one automaticshut-off when refueling.
Results are most accurate when the fillingmethod is consistent.
Calculating Fuel Economy
Your vehicle calculates fuel economyfigures through the trip computer averagefuel function. See Information Displays(page 98).
The first 1,000 mi (1,600 km) of driving isthe break-in period of the engine. Thesystem obtains a more accuratemeasurement after 2,000–3,000 mi(3,200–4,800 km).
Keep a record for at least one month andrecord the type of driving, for example cityor highway. This provides an accurateestimate of your vehicle’s fuel economyunder current driving conditions. Keepingrecords during summer and winter showshow temperature impacts fuel economy.

Understanding the Positions ofYour Automatic Transmission
Putting your vehicle in gear:
1.Fully press down on the brake pedal.
2.Press and hold the button on the topof the gearshift lever.
3.Move the gearshift lever into thedesired gear.
4.Release the button and yourtransmission remains in the selectedgear.
Transmission Selector Positions
The instrument cluster displays the currentgear.
Park (P)
This position locks the transmission andprevents the rear wheels from turning.Come to a complete stop before puttingyour vehicle into and out of park (P).
Reverse (R)
With the selector in reverse (R), yourvehicle moves backward. Always come toa complete stop before shifting into andout of reverse (R).
Neutral (N)
With the selector in neutral (N), you canstart your vehicle and it is free to roll. Holdthe brake pedal down when in this position.
Drive (D)
Drive (D) is the normal driving position forthe best fuel economy. The overdrivefunction allows automatic upshifts anddownshifts through all gears.
Sport (S)
Putting your vehicle in sport (S):
•Provides additional engine braking andextends lower gear operation toenhance performance for uphill climbs,hilly terrain or mountainous areas. Thisincreases engine RPM during enginebraking.
•Provides additional lower gearoperation through the automatictransmission shift strategy.
•Provides gear upshifts and downshiftsmore quickly at higher engine speeds.
