FUEL CONSUMPTION
Empty reserve is the amount of fuelremaining in the tank after the fuel gaugeindicates empty. The amount of usablefuel in the empty reserve varies and shouldnot be relied upon to increase driving range.
•The usable capacity of the fuel tank isthe amount of fuel that can be addedinto the tank after the gauge indicatesempty
•The advertised capacity is the total fueltank size. See Capacities andSpecifications (page 301). It is thecombined usable capacity plus theempty reserve.
•Due to the empty reserve, you may notbe able to refuel the full amount of theadvertised capacity of the fuel tankeven when the fuel gauge reads empty.
Filling the Tank
For consistent results when filling the fueltank:
•Turn the ignition off before fueling; aninaccurate reading results if the engineis left running.
•Use the same fill rate(low-medium-high) each time the tankis filled.
•Allow no more than two automaticclick-offs when filling.
Results are most accurate when the fillingmethod is consistent.
Calculating Fuel Economy
Do not measure fuel economy during thefirst 1000 miles (1600 kilometers) ofdriving (this is your engine’s break-inperiod); a more accurate measurement isobtained after 2000 miles - 3000 miles(3200 kilometers - 4800 kilometers). Also,fuel expense, frequency of fill ups or fuelgauge readings are not accurate ways tomeasure fuel economy.
1.Fill the fuel tank completely and recordthe initial odometer reading.
2.Each time you fill the tank, record theamount of fuel added.
3.After at least 3 to 5 tank fill ups, fill thefuel tank and record the currentodometer reading.
4.Subtract your initial odometer readingfrom the current odometer reading.
5.Calculate fuel economy by dividingmiles traveled by gallons used (ForMetric: Multiply liters used by 100, thendivide by kilometers traveled).
Keep a record for at least 1 month andrecord the type of driving (city or highway).This provides an accurate estimate of thevehicle’s fuel economy under currentdriving conditions. Additionally, keepingrecords during summer and winter showhow temperature impacts fuel economy.In general, lower temperatures mean lowerfuel economy.
Conditions
•Heavily loading a vehicle or towing atrailer may reduce fuel economy at anyspeed.
•Carrying unnecessary weight mayreduce fuel economy (approximately1 mpg [0.4 km/L] is lost for every 400pounds [180 kilograms] of weightcarried).

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
WARNING
Always set the parking brake fullyand make sure the gearshift islatched in P (Park). Turn the ignitionto the off position and remove the keywhenever you leave your vehicle.
Understanding the Shift Positionsof the 5–Speed AutomaticTransmission (If Equipped)
Putting your vehicle in or out of gear:
1.Fully press down the brake pedal.
2.Move the gearshift lever into thedesired gear.
3.Come to a complete stop.
4.Move the gearshift lever and securelylatch it in P (Park)
P (Park)
This position locks the transmission andprevents the rear wheels from turning.
R (Reverse)
With the gearshift lever in R (Reverse), thevehicle will move backward. Always cometo a complete stop before shifting into andout of R (Reverse).
N (Neutral)
With the gearshift lever in N (Neutral), thevehicle can be started and is free to roll.Hold the brake pedal down while in thisposition.
D (Overdrive) with tow/haul off
D (Overdrive) with tow/haul off is thenormal driving position for the best fueleconomy. The overdrive function allowsautomatic upshifts and downshifts throughgears one through five.
D (Overdrive) with tow/haul on
The tow/haul feature improvestransmission operation when towing atrailer or a heavy load. All transmissiongear ranges are available when usingtow/haul.
To activate tow/haul, press thebutton on the end of thegearshift lever. The TOW HAULindicator light will illuminate in theinstrument cluster.
Tow/haul delays upshifts to reducefrequency of transmission shifting.Tow/haul also provides engine braking inall forward gears when the transmission isin the D (Overdrive) position; this enginebraking will slow the vehicle and assist thedriver in controlling the vehicle whendescending a grade. Depending on drivingconditions and load conditions, the

R (Reverse)

Tow/haul may be automatically activated(without pressing the tow/haul button).This provides engine braking to assist thevehicles braking system when goingdownhill and repetitive braking is sensed.Once the tow/haul mode has beenautomatically activated it will notautomatically deactivate.
To deactivate the tow/haul feature andreturn to normal driving mode, press thebutton on the end of the gearshift lever.The TOW HAUL light will no longer beilluminated.
Tow/haul will also deactivate when thevehicle is powered down for a few minutes.
WARNING
Do not use the tow/haul or enginebrake features when driving in icy orslippery conditions as the increasedengine braking can cause the rear wheelsto slide and your vehicle to swing aroundwith the possible loss of vehicle control.

PARKING BRAKE
WARNING
Always set the parking brake fullyand make sure the transmissionselector lever is placed in position P.Failure to set the parking brake and engagepark could result in vehicle roll-away,property damage or bodily injury. Turn theignition to the lock position and removethe key whenever you leave your vehicle.
Apply the parking brake whenever yourvehicle is parked. Press the pedaldownward to set the parking brake. Thebrake warning lamp in the instrumentcluster will illuminate and remainsilluminated until the parking brake isreleased.
To release, pull the brake release leverlocated at the lower left side of theinstrument panel.
If you are parking your vehicle on a gradeor with a trailer, press and hold the brakepedal down, then set the parking brake.There may be a little vehicle movement asthe parking brake sets to hold the vehicle'sweight. This is normal and should be noreason for concern. If needed, press andhold the service brake pedal down, thentry reapplying the parking brake. Chock thewheels if required. If the parking brakecannot hold the weight of the vehicle, theparking brake may need to be serviced orthe vehicle may be overloaded.
HILL START ASSIST
WARNINGS
The system does not replace theparking brake. When you leave yourvehicle, always apply the parkingbrake and put the transmission in park (P).
WARNINGS
You must remain in your vehicle onceyou have activated the system.
During all times, you are responsiblefor controlling your vehicle,supervising the system andintervening, if required.
If the engine is revved excessively, orif a malfunction is detected, thesystem will be deactivated.
The system makes it easier to pull awaywhen your vehicle is on a slope without theneed to use the parking brake.
When the system is active, your vehicle willremain stationary on the slope for two tothree seconds after you release the brakepedal. This allows you time to move yourfoot from the brake to the acceleratorpedal. The brakes are releasedautomatically once the engine hasdeveloped sufficient drive to prevent yourvehicle from rolling down the slope. Thisis an advantage when pulling away on aslope, (for example from a car park ramp,traffic lights or when reversing uphill intoa parking space).
The system will activate automatically onany slope that will cause significant vehiclerollback.
Using Hill Start Assist
1.Press the brake pedal to bring yourvehicle to a complete standstill. Keepthe brake pedal pressed.
2.If the sensors detect that your vehicleis on a slope, the system will activateautomatically.
3.When you remove your foot from thebrake pedal, your vehicle will remainon the slope without rolling away forabout two or three seconds. This holdtime will automatically be extended ifyou are in the process of driving off.

PARKING AID (IF EQUIPPED)
WARNINGS
To help avoid personal injury, pleaseread and understand the limitationsof the system as contained in thissection. Sensing is only an aid for some(generally large and fixed) objects whenmoving in reverse on a flat surface atparking speeds. Traffic control systems,inclement weather, air brakes, and externalmotors and fans may also affect thefunction of the sensing system; this mayinclude reduced performance or a falseactivation.
To help avoid personal injury, alwaysuse caution when in R (Reverse) andwhen using the sensing system.
This system is not designed toprevent contact with small or movingobjects. The system is designed toprovide a warning to assist the driver indetecting large stationary objects to avoiddamaging the vehicle. The system may notdetect smaller objects, particularly thoseclose to the ground.
Certain add-on devices such as largetrailer hitches, bike or surfboard racksand any device that may block thenormal detection zone of the system, maycreate false beeps.
Note:Keep the sensors, located on thebumper or fascia, free from snow, ice andlarge accumulations of dirt. If the sensorsare covered, the system’s accuracy can beaffected. Do not clean the sensors withsharp objects.
Note:If your vehicle sustains damage tothe bumper or fascia, leaving it misalignedor bent, the sensing zone may be alteredcausing inaccurate measurement ofobstacles or false alarms.
Note:If your vehicle is equipped withMyKey™, it is possible to prevent turningthe sensing system off. See MyKey™ (page50).
Note:If your vehicle is equipped with a fullyintegrated electronic trailer brake controller(TBC) and a trailer with electric trailerbrakes is connected to your vehicle, the RSSwill be disabled. When the vehicle is shiftedinto reverse, the information display willremain in the Rear Park Aid Off selection.For more information on the TBC, SeeTrailer Sway Control (page 190).
The sensing system warns the driver ofobstacles within a certain range of thebumper area. The system turns onautomatically whenever the ignition isswitched on.
When receiving a detection warning, theradio volume is reduced to apredetermined level. After the warninggoes away, the radio volume returns to theprevious level.
Rear Sensing System
The rear sensors are only active when thetransmission is in R (Reverse). As thevehicle moves closer to the obstacle, therate of the audible warning increases.When the obstacle is fewer than 12 inches(30 centimeters) away, the warningsounds continuously. If a stationary orreceding object is detected farther than 12inches (30 centimeters) from the side ofthe vehicle, the tone sounds for only threeseconds. Once the system detects anobject approaching, the warning soundsagain.

Using the Rear View CameraSystem
The rear view camera system displayswhat is behind your vehicle when you placethe transmission in reverse (R).
The system uses three types of guides tohelp you see what is behind your vehicle:
•Active guidelines: Show the intendedpath of your vehicle when reversing.
•Fixed guidelines: Show the actual pathyour vehicle is moving while reversingin a straight line. This can be helpfulwhen backing into a parking space oraligning your vehicle with anotherobject behind you.
•Centerline: Helps align the center ofyour vehicle with an object (forexample, a trailer).
Note:If the transmission is in reverse (R)and the luggage compartment is ajar, norear view camera features are displayed.
Note:If the image comes on while thetransmission is not in reverse (R), have thesystem inspected by an authorized dealer.
Note:When towing, the camera only seeswhat is being towed behind your vehicle.This might not provide adequate coverageas it usually provides in normal operationand some objects might not be seen. Insome vehicles, the guidelines may disappearonce the trailer tow connector is engaged.
The camera may not operate correctlyunder the following conditions:
•Nighttime or dark areas if the reverselamps are not operating.
•Mud, water or debris obstructs thecamera's view. Clean the lens with asoft, lint-free cloth and non-abrasivecleaner.
•The camera is misaligned due todamage to the rear of your vehicle.
To access any of the rear view camerasystem settings, make the followingselections in the touch screen when thetransmission is not in reverse (R):
•Menu > Vehicle > Rear View Camera
After changing a system setting, the touchscreen shows a preview of the selectedfeatures.

Note:Active guidelines and fixed guidelinesare only available when the transmission isin reverse (R).

Rear bumperF
Fixed guidelines are always shown in thedisplay, but the active guidelines onlydisplay when the steering wheel is turned.To use active guidelines, turn the steeringwheel to point the guidelines toward anintended path. If the steering wheelposition is changed while reversing, thevehicle might deviate from the originalintended path.
The active guidelines fade in and outdepending on the steering wheel position.The active guidelines are not shown whenthe steering wheel position is straight.
Always use caution while reversing.Objects in the red zone are closest to yourvehicle and objects in the green zone arefarther away. Objects are getting closer toyour vehicle as they move from the greenzone to the yellow or red zones. Use theside view mirrors and rear view mirror toget better coverage on both sides and rearof your vehicle.
Enhanced Park Aids
Note:Enhanced park aids is only availablewhen the transmission is in reverse (R).
Note:The reverse sensing system is noteffective at speeds above 3 mph (5 km/h)and may not detect certain angular ormoving objects.
The system uses red, yellow and greenhighlights which appear on top of the videoimage when an object is detected by thereverse sensing system. The alert highlightsthe closest object detected. The reversesensing alert can be disabled and if visualpark aid alert is enabled, highlighted areasare still displayed.
Selectable settings for this feature are ONand OFF.
Manual Zoom
WARNING
When manual zoom is on, the fullarea behind your vehicle is notshown. Be aware of yoursurroundings when using the manual zoomfeature.
Note:Manual zoom is only available whenthe transmission is in reverse (R).
Note:When manual zoom is enabled, onlythe centerline is shown.
This feature allows you to get a closer viewof an object behind your vehicle (forexample, a trailer). The zoomed imagekeeps the bumper in the image to providea reference. The zoom is only active whilethe transmission is in reverse (R). Whenthe transmission is shifted out of reverse(R), the feature automatically turns offand must be reset when it is used again.
Selectable settings for this feature is OFF,Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. The selectedlevel will appear between the buttons (forexample, Level 1) The default setting forthe manual zoom is OFF.
Rear Camera Delay
When shifting the transmission out ofreverse (R) and into any gear other thanpark (P), the camera image remains in thedisplay until your vehicle speed reaches 5mph (8 km/h). This occurs when the rearcamera delay feature is on or until a radiobutton is selected.
Selectable settings for this feature are ONand OFF. The default setting for the rearcamera delay is ON.

Vehicle Loading - with andwithout a Trailer
This section will guide you in theproper loading of your vehicle,trailer or both, to keep your loadedvehicle weight within its designrating capability, with or withouta trailer. Properly loading yourvehicle will provide maximumreturn of vehicle designperformance. Before loading yourvehicle, familiarize yourself with
the following terms fordetermining your vehicle’s weightratings, with or without a trailer,from the vehicle’s Tire Label orSafety Compliance CertificationLabel:
Base Curb Weight - is the weightof the vehicle including a full tankof fuel and all standardequipment. It does not includepassengers, cargo, or optionalequipment.
Vehicle Curb Weight - is theweight of your new vehicle whenyou picked it up from yourauthorized dealer plus anyaftermarket equipment.
Payload - is the combined weightof cargo and passengers that thevehicle is carrying. The maximumpayload for your vehicle can befound on the Tire Label on theB-Pillar or the edge of the driverdoor (vehicles exported outsidethe US and Canada may not havea Tire Label). Look for “THECOMBINED WEIGHT OFOCCUPANTS AND CARGOSHOULD NEVER EXCEED XXXkg OR XXX lb.” for maximum
payload. The payload listed on theTire Label is the maximumpayload for the vehicle as built bythe assembly plant. If you installany aftermarket orauthorized-dealer installedequipment on the vehicle, youmust subtract the weight of theequipment from the payload listedon the Tire Label in order todetermine the new payload.

Cargo Weight - includes allweight added to the Base CurbWeight, including cargo andoptional equipment. When towing,trailer tongue load or king pinweight is also part of cargo weight.
GAW (Gross Axle Weight) - isthe total weight placed on eachaxle (front and rear) includingvehicle curb weight and allpayload.
GAWR (Gross Axle WeightRating) - is the maximumallowable weight that can becarried by a single axle (front orrear). These numbers are shownon the Safety ComplianceCertification Label. The label shallbe affixed to either the door hingepillar, door-latch post, or the dooredge that meets the door-latchpost, next to the driver's seatingposition.The total load on eachaxle must never exceed itsGross Axle Weight Rating.
