Drain the engine coolant (see page 10-7). Loosen
the drain plug in the radiator.
Drain the transmission fluid Reinstall thedrainplug

Drain the engine oil. Reinstall the drain bolt using a
new washer (see page 8-6).

Remove the damper forks (see section 18).
Disconnect the suspension lower arm ball joints
(see section 18).
Remove the driveshafts.
CAUTION:
o Do not pull on th€ drivoshaft. the CV ioint may
com9 apart.
o Use care whgn prying out the assombly.
Pull it straight to avoid damaging the differential
oil seal or intermediate shaft dust seal.
NoTE: Coat all precision-finished surfaces with
clean engine oil. Tie plastic bags over the driveshaft
enos.

Lower the hoist.
Remove the upper and lower radiator hoses and
heater hoses,
37. Removs the ATF cooler hoses, then plug the ATF
cooler hoses and PiPes (A,/T)

41. Remove the uPPsr bracket.
42. Remove the transmission mount bracket, then
remove the transmission mount.

Check that the engine/transmission is completely
free of vacuum hoses, fuel and coolant hoses and
electricalwiring.
Slowly raise the engine approximately 150 mm (6 in)'
Check once again that all hoses and wires are discon-
nected from the engine^ransmission
Raise the engine all the way, and remove it from the
car.

Disconnect the 1P connector from the VTEC sole-noid valve.
Measure resistance between the terminal and bodyground.
Resistance: l4 - 30 O
lf the resistance is within specifications, remove theVTEC solenoid valve assembly from the cylinder
head, and check the VTEC solenoid valve filter for
cloggrng.
. lf there is clogging, replace the engine oil filterand the engine oil.

4. lf the filter is not clogged, push the VTEC solenoidvalve with your finger and check its movement.
. lf the VTEC solenoid valve is normal. check the

6. Installthe CKF sensor in reverse order of removal.
Remove the cylinder head cover.
NOTE: Refer to page 6-46 when installing.
Remove the crankshaft pulley (see page 6_16),
Remove the upper cover and dipstick/tube {seepage 6-19).
Remove the lower cover and idler pulley bracket(see page 6-19).
Disconnect the CKF sensor connector, then removethe CKF sensor.
