PARKING ASSIST SYSTEM (IF EQUIPPED)
The parking assist system assists the
driver during movement of the vehicle
by chiming if any object is sensed
within the distance of 24 in. (60 cm) in
front and 47 in. (120 cm) behind the
vehicle. This system is a supplemental
system and it is not intended to nor
does it replace the need for extreme
care and attention of the driver. The sensing range and objects
detectable by the sensors are limit-
ed. Whenever moving pay as much
attention to what is in front and
behind of you as you would in a vehi-
cle without a parking assist system.
The front parking assist system has
2 sensors on the front bumper. These
2 sensors can detect right and left
side area. It means the front parking
assist system can not detect the cen-
ter area of the front bumper.

Features of your vehicle
The parking assist button turns onautomatically and activates the
parking assist system when you
shift the gear to the R (Reverse)
position. It will turn off automatical-
ly when you shift out of R
(Reverse) and drive above 6.2 mph
(10 km/h).
The sensing distance while back- ing up is approximately 47 in. (120
cm) when you are driving less than
6.2 mph (10 km/h).
The sensing distance while moving forward is approximately 24 in. (60
cm) when you are driving less than
6.2 mph (10 km/h).
When more than two objects are sensed at the same time, the clos-
est one will be recognized first.
✽ ✽ NOTICE
It may not operate if it’s distance
from the object is already less than
approximately 9.8 in (25 cm) when
the system is ON.

Non-operational conditions of
parking assist system
Parking assist system may not
operate normally when:
1. Moisture is frozen to the sensor. (It will operate normally when mois-
ture melts.)
2. Sensor is covered with foreign matter, such as snow or water, or
the sensor cover is blocked. (It will
operate normally when the materi-
al is removed or the sensor is no
longer blocked.)
3. Sensor is stained with foreign mat- ter such as snow or water.
(Sensing range will return to nor-
mal when removed.)
4.The parking assist button is off.
There is a possibility of parking assist system malfunction when:
1. Driving on uneven road surfaces such as unpaved roads, gravel,
bumps, or gradient.
2. Objects generating excessive noise such as vehicle horns, loud motor-
cycle engines, or truck air brakes
can interfere with the sensor.
3. Heavy rain or water spray.
4. Wireless transmitters or mobile phones present near the sensor.
5. Sensor is covered with snow.
CAUTION
This system can only sense objects within the range andlocation of the sensors;
It can not detect objects inother areas where sensors arenot installed. Also, small orslim objects, such as poles orobjects located between sen-sors may not be detected bythe sensors.
Always visually check behindthe vehicle when backing up.
Be sure to inform any drivers of the vehicle that may beunfamiliar with the systemregarding the systems capa-bilities and limitations.

Detecting range may decreasewhen:
1. Outside air temperature is extremely hot or cold.
2. Undetectable objects smaller than 80 in. (1 m) and narrower than 6 in.
(14 cm) in diameter.
The following objects may not be
recognized by the sensor:
1. Sharp or slim objects such as ropes, chains or small poles.
2. Objects, which tend to absorb sen- sor frequency such as clothes,
spongy material or snow.
✽ ✽NOTICE
1. The warning may not sound
sequentially depending on the
speed and shapes of the objects
detected.
2. The parking assist system may malfunction if the vehicle bumper
height or sensor installation has
been modified. Any non-factory
installed equipment or accessories
may also interfere with the sensor
performance.
3. Sensor may not recognize objects less than 12 in. (30 cm) from the
sensor, or it may sense an incor-
rect distance. Use with caution.
4. When the sensor is frozen or stained with snow or water, the
sensor may be inoperative until
the stains are removed using a
soft cloth.
5. Do not push, scratch or strike the sensor with any hard objects that
could damage the surface of the
sensor. Sensor damage could
occur.
✽ ✽NOTICE
This system can only sense objects
within the range and location of the
sensors, it can not detect objects in
other areas where sensors are not
installed. Also, small or slim objects,
or objects located between sensors
may not be detected.
Always visually check in front and
behind the vehicle when driving.
Be sure to inform any drivers in the
vehicle that may be unfamiliar with
the system regarding the systems
capabilities and limitations.
WARNING
Pay close attention when the
vehicle is driven close to objects
on the road, particularly pedestri-
ans, and especially children. Be
aware that some objects may not
be detected by the sensors, due
to the objects distance, size or
material, all of which can limit the
effectiveness of the sensor.
Always perform a visual inspec-
tion to make sure the vehicle is
clear of all obstructions before
moving the vehicle in any direc-
tion.

Self-diagnosis
When you shift the gear to the R
(Reverse) position and if one or more
of the below occurs you may have a
malfunction in the rear parking assist
system.
You don't hear an audible warning
sound or if the buzzer sounds inter-
mittently.
If this occurs, have your vehicle
checked by an authorized HYUNDAI
dealer as soon as possible. The rear camera display will activate
when the back-up light is ON with the
ignition switch ON and the shift lever
in the R (Reverse) position.This system is a supplemental sys-
tem that helps the driver by display-
ing objects behind the vehicle when
backing up.
Always keep the camera lens clean. If
lens is covered with foreign matter,
the camera may not operate normally.
WARNING
Your new vehicle warranty does
not cover any accidents or dam-
age to the vehicle or injuries to
its occupants related to a park-
ing assist system. Always drive
safely and cautiously.

WARNING
- Rear camera display
The rear camera display is not a
safety device. It only serves to
assist the driver in identifying
objects directly behind the mid-
dle of the vehicle. The camera
does NOT cover the complete
area behind the vehicle. While
the camera's display is general-
ly accurate, objects can be
much closer than they appear in
the display screen and can be
distorted in both size and pro-
portion.

Hill-start assist control (HAC)
(if equipped)
A vehicle has the tendency to slip
back on a steep hill when it starts to
go after stopping. The Hill-start Assist
Control (HAC) prevents the vehicle
from slipping back by operating the
brakes automatically for about 2 sec-
onds. The brakes are released when
the accelerator pedal is depressed or
after about 2 seconds.
✽ ✽NOTICE
• The HAC does not operate when
the transaxle shift lever is in the P
(Park) or N (Neutral) position.
• The HAC activates even though the ESP is off but it does not acti-
vate when the ESP has malfunc-
tioned.
• The HAC applies only to vehicles with manual transmission.
Good braking practicesWARNING
Never press the ESC OFF but-
ton while ESC is operating.
If the ESC is turned off while
ESC is operating, the vehicle
may go out of control.
To turn ESC off while driving,
press the ESC OFF button
while driving on a flat road sur-
face.WARNING
Whenever leaving vehicle or
parking, always set the park-
ing brake as far as possible
and fully engage the vehicle's
transmission into the park
position. Vehicles not fully
engaged in park with the park-
ing brake set are at risk for
moving inadvertently and
injuring yourself or others.
All vehicles should always have the parking brake fully
engaged when parking to
avoid inadvertent movement
of the car which can injure
occupants or pedestrians.
WARNING
The HAC is activated only for
about 2 seconds, so when the
vehicle is starting off always
depress the accelerator pedal.

After parking the vehicle, check to
be sure the parking brake is not
engaged and that the parking
brake indicator light is out before
driving away.
Driving through water may get the brakes wet. They can also get wet
when the car is washed. Wet
brakes can be dangerous! Your car
will not stop as quickly if the brakes
are wet. Wet brakes may cause the
car to pull to one side.
To dry the brakes, apply the brakes
lightly until the braking action
returns to normal, taking care to
keep the car under control at all
times. If the braking action does
not return to normal, stop as soon
as it is safe to do so and call an
authorized HYUNDAI dealer for
assistance.
Don't coast down hills with the car out of gear. This is extremely haz-
ardous. Keep the car in gear at all
times, use the brakes to slow
down, then shift to a lower gear so
that engine braking will help you
maintain a safe speed. Don't "ride" the brake pedal.
Resting your foot on the brake
pedal while driving can be danger-
ous because it can result in the
brakes overheating and losing their
effectiveness. It also increases the
wear of the brake components.
If a tire goes flat while you are driv- ing, apply the brakes gently and
keep the car pointed straight
ahead while you slow down. When
you are moving slowly enough for it
to be safe to do so, pull off the road
and stop in a safe place.
If your car is equipped with an automatic transmission, don't let
your car creep forward. To avoid
creeping forward, keep your foot
firmly on the brake pedal when the
car is stopped. Use caution when parking on a hill.
Firmly engage the parking brake
and place the shift lever in P. If your
car is facing downhill, turn the front
wheels into the curb to help keep
the car from rolling. If your car is
facing uphill, turn the front wheels
away from the curb to help keep
the car from rolling. If there is no
curb or if it is required by other con-
ditions to keep the car from rolling,
block the wheels.
Under some conditions your park- ing brake can freeze in the
engaged position. This is most like-
ly to happen when there is an
accumulation of snow or ice
around or near the rear brakes or if
the brakes are wet. If there is a risk
that the parking brake may freeze,
apply it only temporarily while you
put the shift lev er in P (automatic
transmission) and block the rear
wheels so the car cannot roll. Then
release the parking brake.
Do not hold the vehicle on an uphill with the accelerator pedal. This can
cause the transmission to over-
heat. Always use the brake pedal
or parking brake.

What to do in an emergency
2.When the car is stopped, turn onyour emergency hazard flashers,
set the parking brake and put the
transmission in P (automatic trans-
mission) or reverse (manual trans-
mission).
3.Have all passengers get out of the car. Be sure they all get out on the
side of the car that is away from
traffic.
4.When changing a flat tire, follow the instruction provided later in this
section.
If engine stalls while driving
1. Reduce your speed gradually, keeping a straight line. Move cau-
tiously off the road to a safe place.
2. Turn on your emergency flashers.
3. Try to start the engine again. If your vehicle will not start, contact
an authorized HYUNDAI dealer or
seek other qualified assistance.
If engine doesn't turn over or
turns over slowly
1. If your vehicle has an automatictransmission, be sure the gear
selector lever is in N(Neutral) or
P(Park) and the emergency brake
is set.
2. Check the battery connections to be sure they are clean and tight.
3. Turn on the interior light. If the light dims or goes out when you oper-
ate the starter, the battery is dis-
charged.
4. Check the starter connections to be sure they are securely tight-
ened.
5. Do not push or pull the vehicle to start it. See instructions for "Jump
starting".
If the engine turns over nor-
mally but does not start
1. Check fuel level.
2. With the ignition switch in theLOCK position, check all connec-
tors at the ignition coils and spark
plugs. Reconnect any that may be
disconnected or loose.
3. If the engine still does not start, call an authorized HYUNDAI deal-
er or seek other qualified assis-
tance.
IF THE ENGINE WILL NOT START
WARNING
If the engine will not start, do
not push or pull the car to start
it. This could result in a collision
or cause other damage.

EMERGENCY STARTING
Connect cables in numerical order
and disconnect in reverse order.
Jump starting
Jump starting can be dangerous if
done incorrectly. Therefore, to avoid
harm to yourself or damage to your
vehicle or battery, follow the jump
starting procedures. If in doubt, we
strongly recommend that you have a
competent technician or towing serv-
ice jump start your vehicle.
CAUTION
Use only a 12-volt jumper sys-tem. You can damage a 12-voltstarting motor, ignition system,and other electrical partsbeyond repair by use of a 24-voltpower supply (either two 12-voltbatteries in series or a 24-voltmotor generator set).
WARNING- Battery
• Keep all flames or sparks away from the battery. The
battery produces hydrogen
gas which may explode if
exposed to flame or sparks.
If these instructions are not
followed exactly, serious per-
sonal injury and damage to
the vehicle may occur! If you
are not sure how to follow this
procedure, seek qualified
assistance. Automobile bat-
teries contain sulfuric acid.
This is poisonous and highly
corrosive. When jump start-
ing, wear protective glasses
and be careful not to get acid
on yourself, your clothing or
on the car.
Do not attempt to jump start the vehicle if the discharged
battery is frozen or if the elec-
trolyte level is low; the battery
may rupture or explode.
WARNING- Battery
Never attempt to check the elec-
trolyte level of the battery as
this may cause the battery to
rupture or explode causing seri-
ous injury.

IF THE ENGINE OVERHEATS
If your temperature gauge indicates
overheating, you experience a loss
of power, or hear loud pinging or
knocking, the engine is probably too
hot. If this happens, you should:
1. Pull off the road and stop as soonas it is safe to do so.
2. Place the shift lever in P (automat- ic transmission) or neutral (manual
transmission) and set the parking
brake. If the air conditioning is on,
turn it off.
3. If engine coolant is running out under the car or steam is coming
out from underneath the hood,
stop the engine. Do not open the
hood until the coolant has flow
stopped. If there is no visible loss
of engine coolant and no steam,
leave the engine running and
check to be sure the engine cool-
ing fan is operating. If the fan is
not running, turn the engine off.
4. Check to see if the water pump drive belt is missing. If it is not
missing, check to see that it is
tight. If the drive belt seems to be
satisfactory, check for coolant
leaking from the radiator, hoses or
under the car. (If the air condition-
ing had been in use, it is normal
for cold water to be draining from it
when you stop). 5. If the water pump drive belt is bro-
ken or engine coolant is leaking
out, stop the engine immediately
and call the nearest authorized
HYUNDAI dealer for assistance.
6.If you cannot find the cause of the overheating, wait until the engine
temperature has returned to nor-
mal. Then, if coolant has been lost,
carefully add coolant to the reser-
voir to bring the fluid level in the
reservoir up to the halfway mark. 7.Proceed with caution, keeping
alert for further signs of overheat-
ing. If overheating happens again,
call an authorized HYUNDAI deal-
er for assistance.
WARNING
While the engine is running,
keep hair, hands and clothing
away from moving parts such
as the fan and drive belts to pre-
vent injury.
WARNING
Do not remove the radiator cap
when the engine is hot. This
may result in coolant to be
blown out of the opening and
cause serious burns.
CAUTION
Serious loss of coolant indicatesthere is a leak in the cooling sys-tem and this should be checkedas soon as possible by anauthorized HYUNDAI dealer.
