It is not a substitute for safe driving practices. Factors including speed, road conditions and driver steering input canall affect whether ESP will be effective in preventing a loss of control. It is still your responsibility to drive and cornerat reasonable speeds and to leave a sufficient margin of safety.
WARNING:
Electronic stability program is a driv- ing aid; all normal precautions for driving in inclement weather and on slippery road surfaces should beobserved.
! CAUTION:
Driving with varying tyre or wheel size may cause the ESP system to malfunction. When replacing tyres,make sure they are the same size as your original tyres. C310D01JM-EAT Indicators and Warning The indicators should illuminate when the ignition key is turned to ON orSTART but should go out after approxi- mately 3 seconds. If the indicators do not illuminate, or theESP-OFF indicator does not go out after approximately 3 seconds, have the vehicle checked by Hyundaiauthorised repairer. Should there be any unusual conditions in the device whilst driving, ESP-OFF indicator illuminates as a warning. If ESP-OFF indicator illuminates, pullyour car to a safe place and stop the engine. Then, start the engine again to check ifthe ESP-OFF indicator goes out. If the indicator remains lit even after the engine has been started, have your car checked by Hyundai authorised repairer.
C310B01JM-AAT ESP ON/OFF Mode When the ESP is operating, the ESP indicator in the instrument cluster willblink. If you turn the system off by pressing the ESP switch, the ESP-OFF indica-tor will come on and stay on. In the ESP-OFF mode, the stability control will be deactivated. Adjust your drivingaccordingly. To turn the system back on, press the switch again. The ESP- OFF indicator should go off. NOTE: The ESP mode will automatically be turned ON after the engine is turned off and restarted.

o Don't "ride" the brake or clutch pedal.
This can increase fuel consumption and also increase wear on thesecomponents. In addition, driving with your foot resting on the brake pedal may cause the brakes to overheat,which reduces their effectiveness and may lead to more serious con- sequences.
o Take care of your tyres. Keep them inflated to the recommended pres-sure. Incorrect infla-tion, either toomuch or too little, results in unnec- essary tyre wear. Check the tyre pressures at least once a month.
o Be sure that the wheels are aligned correctly. Improper alignment canresult from hitting curbs or drivingtoo fast over irregular surfaces. Poor alignment causes faster tyre wear and may also result in other prob-lems as well as greater fuel con- sumption. o Keep your car in good condition. For
better fuel economy and reduced maintenance costs, maintain yourcar in accordance with the mainte- nance schedule in Section 5. If you drive your car in severe conditions,more frequent maintenance is re- quired (see Section 5 for details).
o Keep your car clean. For maximum
service, your car should be keptclean and free of corrosive materi- als. It is especially important thatmud, dirt, ice, etc. not be allowed to accumulate on the underside of the car. This extra weight can result inincreased fuel consumption and also contribute to corrosion.
o Travel lightly. Don't carry unneces-
sary weight in your car. Weight is anenemy of good fuel economy.
o Don't let the engine idle longer than
necessary. If you are waiting (andnot in traffic), turn off your engine and restart only when you're readyto go.
SC150A1-F DRIVING FOR ECONOMY You can save fuel and get more miles from your car if you follow these sug-gestions:
o Drive smoothly. Accelerate at a
moderate rate. Don't make "jack- rabbit" starts or full-throttle shifts and maintain a steady cruisingspeed. Don't race between stop- lights. Try to adjust your speed to that of the other traffic so you don'thave to change speeds unneces- sarily. Avoid heavy traffic whenever pos-sible. Always maintain a safe dis- tance from other vehicles so you can avoid unnecessary braking. Thisalso reduces brake wear.
o Drive at a moderate speed. The faster
you drive, the more fuel your caruses. Driving at a moderate speed, especially on the highway, is one of the most effective ways to reducefuel consumption.

ZC170C1-E Anti-freeze/Corrosion inhibitor The cooling system must always con- tain an Ethylene-Glycol based anti-freeze solution. The system is filled during manufacture with solution of the correct strength which should bechecked before the onset of winter and adjusted or changed as required. NOTE: The anti-freeze solution contains a corrosion inhibitor to prevent deg- radation of the aluminum castings contained within the engine. There-fore, never, drain the system and refill with water only. In addition, anti-freeze solution must ALWAYS be used in vehicles fitted with air conditioning, to prevent theheater matrix from freezing and sub- sequently bursting with the refrigera- tion system in use.
SC160A1-F SMOOTH CORNERING Avoid braking or gear changing in cor- ners, especially when roads are wet.Ideally, corners should always be taken under gentle acceleration. If you follow these suggestions, tyre wear will beheld to a minimum.
SC170A1-E WINTER MOTORING The onset of winter conditions subject motor vehicles to greater operating demands. Therefore, the followingsuggestions will assist in maintaining peak performance and reliability dur- ing these periods: ZC170B1-E Electrical System Winter conditions impose severe de- mands upon vehicle electrical systems, particularly the charging circuit. The battery condition and performancealong with the alternator performance and drive belt condition should be checked prior to the onset of winter.
o Remember, your car does not re-
quire extended warm-up. As soonas the engine is running smoothly,you can drive away. In very cold weather, however, give your engine a slightly longer warm-up period.
o Don't "lug" or "over-rev" the engine. Lugging is driving too slowly in toohigh a gear resulting in the enginebucking. If this happens to you, shift to a lower gear. Over-revving is racing the enginebeyond its safe limit. This can be avoided by shifting at the recom- mended speeds.
o Use your air conditioning sparingly. The air conditioning system is oper-ated by the engine power so yourfuel economy is reduced when you use it.

When being passed by a large ve- hicle, keep a constant speed and steer straight ahead. If there is toomuch wind buffeting slow down to get out of the other vehicle's air turbulence.
8. When parking your car and trailer, especially on a hill, be sure to followall the normal precautions. Turn yourfront wheel into the curb, set the parking brake firmly, and put the transaxle in 1st or Reverse (manual)or Park (automatic). In addition, we advise the use of wheel chocks at each of the trailer's tyres.
9. If the trailer has electric brakes, start your vehicle and trailer mov-ing, and then apply the trailer brakecontroller by hand to be sure the brakes are working. This lets you check your electrical connection atthe same time.
10. During your trip, check occasion-
ally to be sure that the load issecure, and that the lights and any trailer brakes are still working.
11. Avoid jerky starts, sudden accel- eration or sudden stops.
12. Avoid sharp turns and rapid lane
changes. 13. Avoid holding the brake pedal down
too long or too frequently. This could cause the brakes to over-heat, resulting in reduced braking efficiency.
14. When going down a hill, shift into a lower gear and use the enginebraking effect.When climbing a long grade, down-
shift the transaxle to a lower gearand reduce speed to reduce chances of engine overloading and/or overheating.
15. If you have to stop while going
uphill, do not hold the vehicle inplace by pressing on the accelera- tor. This can cause the automatic transaxle to overheat. Use the park-ing brake or footbrake.
NOTE: When towing check transaxle fluid more frequently. CAUTION:
If overheating should occur when towing, (temperature gauge reads near red zone), taking the followingaction may reduce or eliminate the problem.
1. Turn off the air conditioner.
2. Reduce highway speed.
3. Select a lower gear when going uphill.
4. While in stop and go traffic, place
the gear selection in park or neu- tral and idle the engine at a higher speed.

3- 6 WHAT TO DO IN AN EMERGENCY
SD050A2-E SPARE WHEEL (Not all models) The spare wheel is stored under the luggage compartment floor and is ac-cessed from within the luggage com- partment by lifting the carpet and the floor panel.To remove the spare wheel, unscrew the retainer, rotating this in an counter- clockwise direction and lift out the wheel.To replace the wheel, screw the retainer by hand until tight having located the wheel in the luggage compartment floorwell. The inflation pressure of the spare wheel should be checked at least monthly and whenever the wheel isfitted to the vehicle.

D040B01FC-EAT SPARE TYRE FOR FULL SIZE The following instructions for the FULL SIZE spare tyre should be observed: Check inflation pressure as soon as possible after installing the spare tyre,and adjust to the specified pressure. 2. The spare tyre should only be used temporarily and should be returned to the luggage compartment as soon as the original tyre can be repaireredor replaced.
3. Continuous use at speeds of over
50 mph(80 km/h) is not recom-mended.
4. As the temporary spare tyre is spe-
cifically designed for your car, it should not be used on any other vehicle.
5. The temporary spare tyre should not be used on any other wheels, norshould standard tyre, snow tyre,wheel covers or trim rings be used with the temporary spare wheel. If such use is attempted, damage tothese items or other car compo- nents may occur.
6. The temporary spare tyre pressure should be checked once a monthwhile the tyre is stored.

5- 2 VEHICLE MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS
SF020A1-E MAINTENANCE AND SERVICING REQUIREMENTS To ensure the continued reliability and safety of the vehicle, certain routinemaintenance operations are required at specific mileage or time intervals. It is the responsibility of the vehicle owner to ensure that the maintenance schedules shown in both this OwnersManual and the Warranty and Service Passport are adhered to. The new vehicle warranty may be invalidated if the routine maintenance operations are not performed in line with the recommendations outlinedand the safety and durability of the vehicle adversely affected. It is recommended that all mainte- nance operations with the exception of the daily operating checks are en-trusted to a Hyundai authorised re- pairer to ensure that the latest repairer and maintenance procedures andspecialised servicing tools are em- ployed. In addition, the use of genuine Hyundai replacement parts will ensurethat the vehicle safety and perfor- mance will not be compromised. NOTE:
The inspection and testing of cer-
tain electronic fuel injection/engine management and automatic trans- mission control systems require specialised electronic equipmentspecifically designed for Hyundai vehicles. The use of general pur- pose electrical test equipment mayresult in damage to the control unit microprocessors.

Specified Scheduled Procedures
The Specified scheduled procedures
are listed in the maintenance charts beginning at page 5-3. The opera- tions specified must be performed at the time or mileage intervals shownirrespective of whether the mileage interval has been reached before the specified time interval. Certain lubricants and components
degrade with both time and mileage(e.g. engine oil and brake fluid) and therefore it is not permissable to base the maintenance schedule upon mile-age alone. It is strongly recommended that the maintenance operations are performed by the factory-trained ordistributor-trained technicians at your Hyundai authorised repairer becauseof the need for specialised knowledge and tooling and to ensure that no possibility of invalidating the manufac-turers warranty exists.
The maintenance schedules relate to
vehicles operated under normal con- ditions, vehicles which are operated under adverse conditions will requiremore frequent maintenance which is described at page 5-6. NOTE:
Service schedules may change de-

G020D01TG-EAT MAINTENANCE PRECAUTIONS Improper or incomplete service may result in problems. This section givesinstructions only for the maintenance items that are easy to perform. Several procedures should be done byan authorised Hyundai dealer. NOTE: Improper owner maintenance dur- ing the warranty period may affectwarranty coverage. WARNING:
o Performing maintenance work on a vehicle can be dangerous. You can be seriously injured while performing some maintenanceprocedures. If you lack sufficient knowledge and experience or the proper tools and equipment to dothe work, have it done by an authorised Hyundai dealer.
o Working under the hood with the engine running is dangerous. Itbecomes even more dangerous when you wear jewelry or looseclothing. These can become en- tangled in moving parts and result in injury. Therefore, if you mustrun the engine while working un- der the hood, make certain that you remove all jewelry (especiallyrings, bracelets, watches, and necklaces) and all neckties, scarves, and similar loose cloth-ing before getting near the engine or cooling fans.
SG020B1-E DAILY OPERATING CHECKS The following items should be checked on a daily basis or whenever the vehicleis refuelled, whichever occurs sooner.
o Engine oil level.
o Engine coolant level.
o Power steering fluid level.
o Brake fluid level.
o Windscreen washer fluid level.
o Battery condition.
o Tyre condition and pressures.
o Operation and cleanliness of all light-
ing equipment.
o Windscreen wiper and washer opera- tion.
o Horn operation.
o Warning light operation.
o Adjustment and cleanliness of mir- rors.
o Seat and seat belt adjustment and operation.
o Fluid leakage. The vehicle must not be driven if the daily operating checks indicate that any item of equipment related to thesafety or roadworthiness of the vehicle is not functioning correctly.

The engine oil quality should meet the following classification: API class: CH4 or ABOVE ACEA class: B4 or ABOVE NOTE: SAE 0W-30 oil is for extra cold zone and to be restricted by driving condi- tion and dealing area. Diesel engine
The engine oil level should be checked with the engine at normal operating tem- perature and the vehicle parked uponlevel ground. Prior to checking the level, the vehicle should be allowed to stand for severalminutes after the engine has been switched off to allow the oil to drain back to the sump.Withdraw the dipstick and wipe it with a clean rag. Replace the dipstick fully and withdraw again when the oil level may beread from the stick. Normal oil level is indicated when the oil is present between the two marks on the stick. It is notnecessary to add oil if the level is above the lower mark and in any case, oil must not be added to the degree that the levelexceeds the upper mark. Replace the dipstick fully after checking the level.

SG050C2-E Engine Coolant Level The engine coolant level may be ob- served through the side of the plasticcoolant reservoir (expansion tank) when the engine is cold. If the level is below the "LOW" mark, add coolant of thecorrect concentration until the level is between the "LOW" and "Full" marks. If the level falls below the "LOW" mark ona regular basis despite being topped up, consult a Hyundai authorised repairer.
!WARNING:
The cooling fan is controlled by en- gine coolant temperature and may sometimes operate even when theengine is not running. Use extreme caution when working near the blades of the cooling fan so that youare not injured by a rotating fan blade. As the engine coolant tem- perature decreases, the fan will auto-matically shut off. This is a normal condition.

3. Lift the cover off.
4. Remove the old filter and replace to the new one. Genuine Hyundai Re- placement Parts are recommended.

Operating your vehicle without aproper air filter in place can result in excessive engine wear.

Incorrect tyre pressures can affect ve-hicle safety by causing reduced adhe-sion, steering response and tyre failure through overheating. The tyre pressure must only be checked when the tyresare cold. The correct tyre pressures are indicated on the label affixed in the glove box and above. Tyre pressures should be increased by 3 psi when the vehicle is driven fully laden or under conditions of sustainedhigh speed motoring.
