When driving with the compact spare
tire mounted to your vehicle:
• Check the tire pressure afterinstalling the compact spare tire.
The compact spare tire should be
inflated to 420 kPa (60 psi).
• Do not take this vehicle through an automatic car wash while the com-
pact spare tire is installed.
• Do not use the compact spare tire on any other vehicle because this
tire has been designed especially
for your vehicle.
• The compact spare tire’s tread life is shorter than a regular tire.
Inspect your compact spare tire
regularly and replace worn com-
pact spare tires with the same size
and design, mounted on the same
wheel.
• Do not use more than one compact spare tire at a time.
• Do not tow a trailer while the com- pact spare tire is installed.
IInformation
When the original tire and wheel are
repaired and reinstalled on the vehi-
cle, the lug nut torque must be set cor-
rectly to prevent wheel vibration. The
correct lug nut tightening torque is
11~13 kgf.m (79~94 lbf.ft).
To prevent damaging the compact
spare tire and your vehicle:
• Drive slowly enough for the road condition s to avoid all hazards,
such as a potholes or debris.
• Avoid driving over obstacles. The compact spare t ire diameter is
smaller than the diameter of a con-
ventional tire and reduces the
ground clearance appr oximately
25 mm (1 inch).
• Do not use tire chains on the com- pact spare tire. Because of the
smaller siz e, a tire chain will not fit
properly.
• Do not use the compact spare tire on any other wheels, nor shoul d
standard tires, snow tires, wheel
covers or trim rings be used with
the compact spare wheel.NOTICE

TTowing serviceIf emergency towing is necessary,
we recommend having it done by an
authorized HYUNDAI dealer or a
commercial tow-truck service.
Proper lifting and towing procedures
are necessary to prevent damage to
the vehicle. The use of wheel dollies
or flatbed is recommended. It is acceptable to tow the vehicle
with the rear wheels on the ground
(without dollies) and the front wheels
off the ground. If any of the loaded
wheels or suspension components
are damaged or the vehicle is being
towed with the front wheels on the
ground, use a towing dolly under the
front wheels.
When being towed by a commercial
tow truck and wheel dollies are not
used, the front of the vehicle should
always be lifted, not the rear.!

•• Do not tow the vehicle with 4
wheels on the ground (such as
dinghy towing behind a motorhome
or other m otor vehicle) as this can
seriously damage the
Continuously Variable Transaxle.
• Do not tow the vehicle with the
front wheels on the ground as this
may cause damage to the vehicle.
• Do not tow with sling-type equip-
ment. Use a wheel lift or flatbed
equipment.When towing your vehicle in an
emergency without wheel dollies:
1. Place the ignition switch in the ACC position.
2. Place the shift lever in N (Neutral).
3. Release the parking brake.Failure to place the shift lever in N
(Neutral) when being towed with the
front wheels on the ground can
cause internal damage to the
transaxle.
Removable towing hook 1.Open the trunk, and remove the towing hook from the tool case. 2.Remove the hole cover pressing
the lower part of the cover on the
front bumper.
3.Install the towing hook by turning it clockwise into the hole until it is
fully secured.
4.Remove the towing hook and install the cover after use.

EEmergency towing If towing is necessary, we recom-
mend you have it done by an author-
ized HYUNDAI dealer or a commer-
cial tow truck service. If towing service is not available in an
emergency, your vehicle may be
temporarily towed using a cable or
chain secured to the emergency tow-
ing hook at the front (or rear) of the
vehicle.
Use extreme caution when towing
the vehicle with a cable or chain. A
driver must be in the vehicle to steer
it and operate the brakes.
Towing in this manner may be done
only on hard-surfaced roads for a
short distance and at low speeds.
Also, the wheels, axles, power train,
steering and brakes must all be in
good condition. Always follow these emergency tow-
ing precautions:
• Place the ignition switch in the
ACC position so the steering
wheel is not locked.
• Place the shift lever in N (Neutral).
• Release the parking brake.
• Depress the brake pedal with more force than normal since you will
have reduced braking perform-
ance.
• More steering effort will be required because the power steer-
ing system will be disabled.
• Use a vehicle heavier than your own to tow your vehicle.
• The drivers of both vehicles should communicate with each other fre-
quently.
• Before emergency towing, check that the hook is not broken or dam-
aged.
• Fasten the towing cable or chain securely to the hook.
• Do not jerk the hook. Apply steady and even force.

and inspections that should be per-
formed at the frequencies indicated
to help ensure safe, dependable
operation of your vehicle.
Any adverse conditions should be
brought to the attention of your deal-
er as soon as possible.
These Owner Maintenance Checks
are generally not covered by war-
ranties and you may be charged for
labor, parts and lubricants used.
Owner maintenance schedule When you stop for fuel:• Check the engine oil level.
• Check the coolant level in coolant
reservoir.
• Check the windshield washer fluid level.
• Look for low or under-inflated tires.
• Check the radiator and condenser. Check if the front of the radiator
and condenser are clean and not
blocked with leaves, dirt or insects
etc.
If any of the above parts areextremely dirty or you are not sure
of their condition, we recommend
that you contact an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer.
While operating your vehicle:• Note any changes in the sound of the exhaust or any smell of
exhaust fumes in the vehicle.
• Check for vibrations in the steering wheel. Notice any increased steer-
ing effort or looseness in the steer-
ing wheel, or change in its straight-
ahead position.
• Notice if your vehicle constantly turns slightly or "pulls" to one side
when traveling on smooth, level
road.
• When stopping, listen and check for unusual sounds, pulling to one
side, increased brake pedal travel
or "hard-to-push" brake pedal.
• If any slipping or changes in the operation of your transaxle occurs,
check the transaxle fluid level.
• Check Continuously Variable Transaxle P (Park) function.
• Check the parking brake.
• Check for fluid leaks under your vehicle (water dripping from the air
conditioning system during or after
use is normal).

Be careful when checking your
engine coolant level when the
engine is hot. Scalding hot coolant
and stea m may blow out under
pressure. This could cause burns
or other serious injury.

AAt least monthly:• Check the coolant level in theengine coolant reservoir.
• Check the operation of all exterior lights, including the stoplights, turn
signals and hazard warning flash-
ers.
• Check the inflation pressures of all tires including the spare for tires
that are worn, show uneven wear,
or are damaged.
• Check for loose wheel lug nuts.
At least twice a year (i.e., every Spring and Fall):• Check the radiator, heater and air
conditioning hoses for leaks or
damage.
• Check the windshield washer spray and wiper operation. Clean
wiper blades with clean cloth
dampened with washer fluid.
• Check the headlight alignment.
• Check the muffler, exhaust pipes, shields and clamps.
• Check the lap/shoulder belts for wear and function.
At least once a year:• Clean the body and door drainholes.
• Lubricate the door hinges and checks, and hood hinges.
• Lubricate the door and hood locks and latches.
• Lubricate the door rubber weather- strips.
• Check the air conditioning system.
• Inspect and lubricate Continuously Variable Transaxle linkage and
controls.
• Clean the battery and terminals.
• Check the brake/clutch fluid level.

clamps for cracks, deterioration, or
damage. Replace any damaged
parts and, if necessary, repack the

!$# "#$$#Tire care For proper maintenance, safety, and
maximum fuel economy, you must
always maintain recommended tire
inflation pressures and stay within
the load limits and weight distribution
recommended for your vehicle. Recommended cold tire inflation
pressures All tire pressures (including the
spare) should be checked when the
tires are cold. “Cold Tires” means the
vehicle has not been driven for at
least three hours or driven less than
1.6 km (one mile).
Recommended pressures must be
maintained for the best ride, top vehi-
cle handling, and minimum tire wear.
For recommended inflation pressure,
refer to “Tire and wheels” in chapter
8. All specifications (sizes and pres-
sures) can be found on a label
attached to the vehicle.

Tire underinflation
Severe underinflation (70 kPa (10
psi) or more) can lead to severe
heat build-up, ca using blowouts,
tread separation and other tire fail-
ures that can result in the loss of
vehicle contro l leading to severe
injury or death. This risk is much
higher on hot days and when driv-
ing for long pe riods at high
speeds.

•• Underinflation also results in
excessive wear, poor handling and
reduced fuel economy. Wheel
deformatio n also is possible. Keep
your tire pressures at the proper
levels. If a tire frequently needs
refilling, we recommend that the
system be checked by an author-
ized HYUNDAI dealer.
• Overinflation produces a harsh ride, excessive wear at the center
of the tire tread, and a greater pos-
sibility of damage from roa d haz-
ards. • Warm tires normally exceed rec-
ommended cold tire pressures by
28 to 41 kPa (4 to 6 psi). Do not
release air from warm tires to
adjust the pressure or the tires will
be underinflated.
• Be sure to reinstall the tire inflation
valve caps. Without the valve cap,
dirt or moisture could get into the
val ve core and cause air leakage.
If a valve cap is missing, install a
new one as soon as possible. - Tire
pressure
Always observe the following:
• Check tire pressure when the tires are cold. (After vehicle has been
parked for at least three hours or
hasn't been driven more than 1.6
km (one mile) since startup.)
• C heck the pressure of your spare
tire each time you check the pres-
sure of other tires.
• Never overload your vehicle. Be
careful not to overload a vehicle
luggage rack if your vehicle is
equipped with one.
• Worn, old tires can cause acci-
dents. If your tread is badly worn,
or if your tires have been dam-
aged , replace them.

Tire Inflation
Overinflation or underinflation can
reduce tire life, adversely affect
vehicle handling, and lead to sud-
den tire failure. This could result in
loss of vehicle control and poten-
tial injury.
WARNING

1.(%,204/3424-3TTire rotation To equalize tread wear, it is recom-
mended that the tires be rotated
every 10,000 km (6,200 miles) or
sooner if irregular wear develops.
During rotation, check the tires for
correct balance.
When rotating tires, check for uneven
wear and damage. Abnormal wear is
usually caused by incorrect tire pres-
sure, improper wheel alignment, out-
of-balance wheels, severe braking or
severe cornering. Look for bumps or
bulges in the tread or side of tire.
Replace the tire if you find either of
these conditions. Replace the tire if
fabric or cord is visible. After rotation,
be sure to bring the front and rear tire
pressures to specification and check
lug nut tightness.
Refer to “Tire and wheels” in chapter
8. Disc brake pads should be inspected
for wear whenever tires are rotated.

Rotate radial tires that have an asym-
metric tread pattern only from front
to rear and not from right to left.i•
Do not use the compact spare
tire for tire rotation.

ply tires under any circum-
stances. This may cause unusu-
