To service the differential the axle shafts must be
removed. Refer to the removal procedures in this
Group.
(1) Note the installation reference letters stamped
on the bearing caps

(2) Clamp the differential case in a vise equipped
with soft jaws. Remove and discard the ring gear
bolts. Tap the ring gear with a rawhide

(1) Rotate assembly several revolutions to seat
bearings. Measure backlash at three equally spaced
locations around the perimeter of the ring gear with
a dial ind
