Window opening and closingThe driver’s door has a master power
window switch that controls all the
windows in the vehicle. To open or
close a window, press down (
➄) or
pull up (
➄) the front portion of the
corresponding switch.Automatic power window down

Depressing the power window switch
momentarily to the second detent
position (
➅) completely lowers the
driver’s window even when the
switch is released. To stop the win-
dow at the desired position while the
window is in operation, pull up the
switch momentarily to the opposite
direction of the window movement.
If the battery has been discharged or
disconnected, the automatic power
window system must be reset as fol-
lows:
1. Turn the ignition key to ON posi-
tion.
2. Close driver’s window and contin-
ue pulling up on driver’s power win-
dow switch for at least 2~3 sec-
onds after the window is complete-
ly closed.Power window lock switch
The driver can disable the power
window switches on a passenger
door by depressing the power win-
dow lock switch located on the dri-
ver’s door to LOCK (pressed).
When the power window lock
switch is ON, the driver’s master
control cannot operate the pas-
senger door power windows
either.

In order to help provide protection
in a severe collision, the airbags
must inflate rapidly. The speed of
airbag inflation has been deter-
mined by the Canadian Motor
Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS)
to reduce the likelihood of serious
or life-threatening injuries and is
thus a mandatory part of the airbag
design.
However, airbag inflation can also
cause injuries which normally can
include facial abrasions, bruises
and broken bones, because that
speed also causes the airbags to
expand with a great deal force.
There are even circumstances
under which contact with the
steering wheel airbag can cause
fatal injuries, especially if the
occupant is positioned exces-
sively close to the steering
wheel.
Noise and smokeWhen the airbags inflate, they make
a loud noise and they leave smoke
and powder in the air inside of the
vehicle. This is normal and is a result
of the ignition of the airbag inflator.
After the airbag inflates, you may feel
substantial discomfort in breathing
due to the contact of your chest to
both the safety belt and the airbag,
as well as from breathing the smoke
and powder.We strongly urge you
to open your doors and/or win-
dows as soon as possible after
impact in order to reduce discom-
fort and prevent prolonged expo-
sure to the smoke and powder.
Though smoke and powder are non-
toxic, it may cause irritation to the
skin (eyes, nose and throat etc). If
this is the case, wash and rinse with
cold water immediately and consult
the doctor if the symptom persists.
WARNING
Driver should sit as far back
(at least 10 inches (250 mm)
away) from the steering wheel
airbag as possible to reduce
the risk of injury or death in a
collision. The front passenger
should always move their seat
as far back as possible and sit
back in their seat.
Airbags inflate instantly in an
event of collision and passen-
gers may be injured by the
airbag expansion force if they
are not in proper position.
Airbag inflation may cause
injuries which normally
include facial or bodily abra-
sions, injuries by the broken
eyeglasses or burns by the
explosives.

NOTICE• Make sure to refuel with gasoline
(unleaded fuel) only (for the gaso-
line engine vehicles).
• Check to make sure the fuel filler
cap is securely closed after refuel-
ing.
• If the fuel filler cap requires
replacement, use only a genuine
Kia cap or the equivalent specified
for your vehicle. An incorrect fuel
filler cap can result in a serious
malfunction of the fuel system or
emission control system. Correct
replacement caps are available at
authorized Kia dealers.
• Do not spill fuel on the exterior
surfaces of the vehicle. Any type of
fuel spilled on painted surfaces
may damage the paint.
• A loose fuel filler cap may cause
the “Check Engine” (Malfunction
Indicator) light in the instrument
panel to illuminate unnecessarily.
• If the fuel filler lid will not open in
cold weather because the area
around it is frozen, push or lightly
tap the lid.

Do not light any fire around a
gas station. DO NOT use
matches or a lighter and DO
NOT SMOKE or leave a lit cig-
arette in your vehicle while at
a gas station especially during
refueling. Automotive fuel is
highly flammable and can,
when ignited, result in explo-
sion and fire.
If a fire breaks out during refu-
eling, leave the vicinity of the
vehicle, and immediately con-
tact the manager of the gas
station or contact the police
and local fire department.
Follow any safety instructions
they provide.

(if equipped)The electric remote control mirror
switch allows you to adjust the posi-
tion of the left and right outside
rearview mirrors. To adjust the posi-
tion of either mirror, move the lever
(➀) to R or L to select the right side
mirror or the left side mirror, then
press a corresponding point ( ) on
the mirror adjustment control to posi-
tion the selected mirror up, down, left
or right.
After adjustment, put the lever into
neutral position to prevent the inad-
vertent adjustment.

NOTICE• The mirrors stop moving when
they reach the maximum adjust-
ing angles, but the motor contin-
ues to operate while the switch is
depressed. Do not depress the
switch longer than necessary, the
motor may be damaged.
• Do not attempt to adjust the out-
side rearview mirror by hand.
Doing so may damage the parts.
Folding the outside rearview
mirrorTo fold outside rearview mirror, grasp
the housing of mirror and then fold it
toward the rear of the vehicle.

Before leaving the driver’s
seat, always make sure the
shift lever is in the P (PARK)
position. Set the parking
brake fully, shut the engine off
and take the key with you.
Unexpected and sudden vehi-
cle movement can occur if you
do not follow these precau-
tions in the order specified.
Never leave a child unattend-
ed in a vehicle.
WARNING
Shifting into P (Park) while the
vehicle is in motion will cause
the drive wheels to lock which
will cause you to lose control
of the vehicle.
Do not use the P (Park) posi-
tion in place of the parking
brake. Always make sure the
shift lever is latched in the P
(Park) position so that it can-
not be moved unless the lock
release button is pushed in,
AND set the parking brake
fully.

Engine power can be delivered to all
front and rear wheels for maximum
traction. Full-time 4WD is useful
when good traction is required, such
as, when driving on slippery, muddy,
wet, or snow-covered roads. These
vehicles, however, are not designed
for challenging off-road use. Full-time
4WD vehicles are designed primarily
to improve traction and performance
on paved roads and highways in wet
and/or slippery conditions.
Occasional off-road use such as
established unpaved roads and trails
is OK. It is always important when
traveling off-highway that the driver
carefully reduce speed to a level that
does not exceed the safe operating
speed for those conditions. In gener-
al, off-road conditions provide less
traction and braking effectiveness
than normal road conditions.These factors must be carefully con-
sidered when driving off-road.
Keeping the vehicle in contact with
the driving surface and under control
in these conditions is always the dri-
ver's responsibility for the safety of
him/herself and his or her passen-
gers.

Four Wheel Drive (4WD) transfer mode selection

This mode is used for climbing or descending sharp grades,
off-roads driving, driving on sandy and muddy roads etc. to
maximize traction.
This mode automatically begins to deactivate at speed above
30 km/h (19 mph) and is shifted to 4WD AUTO mode at
speed above 40 km/h (25 mph). If the vehicle decelerates to
speeds below 30 km/h (19 mph), however, the transfer mode
is shifted into 4WD LOCK mode again.
When driving in AUTO mode, the vehicle operates similar to
the conventional 2WD vehicles under normal operating.
However, if it is determined that there is a need to drive the
vehicle in 4WD mode, the engine’s driving power is properly
distributed to all front and rear wheels automatically without
driver intervention.
When driving on normal roads and pavement, the vehicle
moves almost similar to the conventional 2WD vehicles and
the mode is used downtown and on highway.

NOTICE• When driving on normal roads, be sure to have the 4WD LOCK mode deactivated by pushing the 4WD LOCK
button(the indicator light goes off). When driving on normal roads with 4WD LOCK mode(especially, when cor-
nering), it may cause mechanical noise or vibration. It is not a mechanical failure but a normal phenomenon. The
noise and vibration disappear when the 4WD LOCK mode is deactivated. However, some parts in the power train
may be damaged by continuous driving with the noise and vibration.
• When the 4WD LOCK mode is deactivated, a shock may be felt because the drive power delivered to front and
rear wheels is shifted. This shock is not a mechanical failure but a normal phenomenon.

Anti-lock brake system (ABS)
(if equipped)
The ABS system continuously sens-
es the speed of the wheels. If the
wheels are going to lock, the ABS
system repeatedly modulates the
hydraulic brake pressure to the
wheels.
When you apply your brakes under
conditions which may lock the
wheels, you may hear a “tik-tik’’
sound from the brakes, or feel a cor-
responding sensation in the brake
pedal. This is normal and it means
your ABS system is active.
In order to obtain the maximum ben-
efit from your ABS system in an
emergency situation, do not attempt
to modulate your brake pressure and
do not try to pump your brakes.
Press your brake pedal as hard as
possible or as hard as the situation
warrants and allow the ABS system
to control the force being delivered to
the brakes.
WARNING
- ABS Brakes
Your ABS is not a substitute for
good driving judgement. You
can still have an accident. In
fact, your ABS system will prob-
ably not be able to prevent an
accident in the following driving
conditions:
Dangerous driving, such as
neglecting safety precautions,
speeding, or driving too close
to the vehicle in front of you.
Driving at high speed in situa-
tions providing considerably
less traction, such as wet con-
ditions where hydroplaning
could occur.

Driving too fast on poor road
surfaces. The ABS is
designed to improve maxi-
mum braking effectiveness on
typical highways and roads in
good condition. On poor road
surfaces in poor condition,
the ABS may actually reduce
braking effectiveness.
