Operation of each component

A sudden approach to the effective range or door handle may prevent the doors
from being unlocked. In this case, return the door handle to the original position
and check that the doors unlock before pulling the door handle again.
If there is another electronic key in the detection area, it may take slightly lon-
ger to unlock the doors after the door handle is gripped.
Fingernails may scrape against the door during operation of the door handle. Be
careful not to injure fingernails or damage the surface of the door.
When the vehicle is not driven for extended periods
Vehicles with entry function: To prevent theft of the vehicle, do not leave the
electronic key within 2 m (6 ft.) of the vehicle.
The smart entry & start system can be deactivated in advance. (P. 650)
To operate the system properly
Make sure to carry the electronic key when operating the system. Do not get the
electronic key too close to the vehicle when operating the system from the out-
side of the vehicle.
Depending on the position and holding condition of the electronic key, the key
may not be detected correctly and the system may not operate properly. (The
alarm may go off accidentally, or the door lock prevention may not operate.)
If the smart entry & start system does not operate properly
Locking and unlocking the doors: Use the mechanical key. (P. 621)

Operation of each component

Each electronic key (including a card key) can be registered to recall your
preferred driving position.
Registering procedure
Record your driving position to button “1”, “2” or “3” before perform-
ing the following:
Carry only the key you want to register, and then close the driver’s
door.
If 2 or more keys are in the vehicle, the driving position cannot be
recorded properly.
Turn the power switch to ON mode.
Check that the shift position is in P.
Recall the driving position that you want to record.
While pressing the recalled
button, press and hold the door
lock switch (either lock or
unlock) until the buzzer
sounds.
If the button could not be regis-
tered, the buzzer sounds continu-
ously for approximately 3
seconds.
Recall procedure
Carry the electronic key that has been registered to the driving posi-
tion, and then unlock and open the driver’s door using the smart entry
& start system or wireless remote control.
The driving position will move to the recorded position.
If the driving position is in a position that has already been recorded, the
seat and outside rear view mirrors will not move.

Cancelation procedure
Carry only the key you want to cancel and then close the driver’s door.
If 2 or more keys are in the vehicle, the driving position cannot be can-
celed properly.
Turn the power switch to ON mode.
While pressing the “SET” button, press and hold the door lock
switch (either lock or unlock) until the buzzer sounds twice.
If the button could not be canceled, the buzzer sounds continuously for
approximately 3 seconds.
Recalling the driving position using the memory recall function
Different driving positions can be registered for each electronic key. Therefore,
the driving position that is recalled may be different depending on the key being
carried.
If a door other than the driver’s door is unlocked with the smart entry & start
system, the driving position cannot be recalled. In this case, press the driving
position button which has been set.

Seat adjustment caution
Take care during seat adjustment so that the seat does not strike the rear passen-
ger or squeeze your body against the steering wheel.

Interior features
Registering air conditioning settings to electronic keys (vehicles with a smart
entry & start system)
Unlocking the vehicle using an electronic key and turning the power switch to
ON mode will recall that key’s registered air conditioning settings.
When the power switch is turned off, the current air conditioning settings will
automatically be registered to the electronic key that was used to unlock the
vehicle.
The system may not operate correctly if more than one electronic key is in the
vicinity or if the smart entry & start system is used to unlock a passenger door.
Settings for the electronic key and the corresponding door can be changed.
Contact any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional.
Using automatic mode
Fan speed is adjusted automatically according to the temperature setting and the
ambient conditions.
Therefore, the fan may stop for a while until warm or cool air is ready to flow
immediately after the “AUTO” button is pressed or “AUTO” is selected.
Fogging up of the windows
The windows will easily fog up when the humidity in the vehicle is high. Press-
ing “A/C” button or selecting “A/C” will dehumidify the air from the outlets
and defog the windshield effectively.
If you turn “A/C” off, the windows may fog up more easily.
The windows may fog up if the recirculated air mode is used.
Windshield fog detection function (if equipped)
When automatic mode is set, the humidity sensor (P. 451) detects fog on the
windshield and controls the air conditioning system to prevent fog.
Outside/recirculated air mode
When driving on dusty roads such as tunnels or in heavy traffic, set
to the recirculated air mode. This is effective in preventing out-
side air from entering the vehicle interior. During cooling operation, setting the
recirculated air mode will also cool the vehicle interior effectively.
Outside/recirculated air mode may automatically switch depending on the tem-
perature setting or the inside temperature.

Note for a smart entry & start system (if equipped)
If the door handle becomes wet while the electronic key is within the effective
range, the door may lock and unlock repeatedly. Place the key in a position 2 m
(6 ft.) or more separate from the vehicle while the vehicle is being washed. (Take
care to ensure that the key is not stolen.)
Aluminum wheels
Remove any dirt immediately by using a neutral detergent. Do not use hard
brushes or abrasive cleaners. Do not use strong or harsh chemical cleaners.
Use the same mild detergent and wax as used on the paint.
Do not use detergent on the wheels when they are hot, for example after driving
for long distance in the hot weather.
Wash detergent from the wheels immediately after use.
Bumpers
Do not scrub with abrasive cleaners.
Front side windows water-repellent coating
The following precautions can extend the effectiveness of the water-repellent
coating.
• Remove any dirt, etc. from the front side windows regularly.
• Do not allow dirt and dust to accumulate on the windows for a long period.
Clean the windows with a soft, damp cloth as soon as possible.
• Do not use wax or glass cleaners that contain abrasives when cleaning the
windows.
• Do not use any metallic objects to remove condensation build up.
When the water-repellent performance has become insufficient, the coating can
be repaired. Contact any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly
qualified and equipped professional.
Restoration work for rain clearing effect of the rain clearing mirror (if equipped)
The rain clearing effect on the mirror surface will gradually recover after expo-
sure to sunlight (P. 176). However, if you want to restore the effect immedi-
ately, conduct the following procedures:
Apply water to the mirror surface to wash the dirt away from it.
Remove the dirt by using a clean, soft and wet cloth.
Clean the mirror surface with glass cleaner or detergent. When detergent is
used, rinse the mirror surface with a lot of water.
Wipe water on the mirror surface by using a clean and soft cloth, ect.
Park your vehicle outdoors to expose the mirror surface to sunlight for about 5
hours. (The restoration time differs depending on the amount and type of dirt.)

Maintenance and care
Before recharging
When recharging, the 12-volt battery produces hydrogen gas which is flammable
and explosive. Therefore, observe the following precautions before recharging:
If recharging with the 12-volt battery installed on the vehicle, be sure to discon-
nect the ground cable.
Make sure the power switch on the charger is off when connecting and discon-
necting the charger cables to the 12-volt battery.
After recharging/reconnecting the 12-volt battery
Unlocking the doors using the smart entry & start system may not be possible
immediately after reconnecting the 12-volt battery. If this happens, use the
wireless remote control or the mechanical key to lock/unlock the doors.
Start the hybrid system with the power switch in ACCESSORY mode. The
hybrid system may not start with the power switch turned off. However, the
hybrid system will operate normally from the second attempt.
The power switch mode is recorded by the vehicle. If the 12-volt battery is
reconnected, the vehicle will return the power switch mode to the status it was
in before the 12-volt battery was disconnected. Make sure to turn off the power
before disconnect the 12-volt battery. Take extra care when connecting the 12-
volt battery if the power switch mode prior to discharge is unknown.
Restart the hybrid system, depress the brake pedal, and confirm that it is possi-
ble to shift into each shift position.
If the system will not start even after multiple attempts at all methods above,
contact any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional.

Maintenance and care
Use a CR1632 lithium battery
Batteries can be purchased at any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or
another duly qualified and equipped professional, local electrical appliance
shops or camera stores.
Replace only with the same or equivalent type recommended by the manufac-
turer.
Dispose of used batteries according to the local laws.
When the card key battery needs to be replaced (if equipped)
The battery for the card key is available only at Lexus dealers. any authorized
Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional can
replace the battery for you.
If the electronic key battery is depleted
The following symptoms may occur:
The smart entry & start system and wireless remote control will not function
properly.
The operational range will be reduced.

Removed battery and other parts
These parts are small and if swallowed by a child, they can cause choking.
Keep away from children. Failure to do so could result in death or serious
injury.
Certification for the smart entry & start system
RISK OF EXPLOSION IF BATTERY IS REPLACED BY AN INCORRECT
TYPE.
DISPOSE OF USED BATTERIES ACCORDING TO THE INSTRUCTIONS.
NOTICE
For normal operation after replacing the battery
Observe the following precautions to prevent accidents:
Always work with dry hands.
Moisture may cause the battery to rust.
Do not touch or move any other component inside the remote control.
Do not bend either of the battery terminals.

If communication between the electronic key and vehicle is interrupted (P.
145) or the electronic key cannot be used because the battery is depleted, the
smart entry & start system and wireless remote control cannot be used. In
such cases, the doors can be opened and the hybrid system can be started by
following the procedure below.
