Driving
◆Delays
Repeated acceleration and deceleration, as well as long waits at traffic lights,
will lead to bad fuel economy. Check traffic reports before leaving and avoid
delays as much as possible. When driving in a traffic jam, gently release the
brake pedal to allow the vehicle to move forward slightly while avoiding over-
use of the accelerator pedal. Doing so can help control excessive gasoline
consumption.
◆Highway driving
Control and maintain the vehicle at a co nstant speed. Before stopping at a toll
booth or similar, allow plenty of time to release the accelerator and gently
apply the brakes. A greater amount of electrical energy can be regenerated
when slowing down.
◆Air conditioning
Use the air conditioning only when necessary. Doing so can help reduce
excessive gasoline consumption.
In summer: When the ambient temperature is high, use the recirculated air
mode. Doing so will help to reduce th e burden on the air conditioning system
and reduce fuel consumption as well.
In winter: Because the gasoline engine will not automatically cut out until it
and the interior of the vehicle are warm , it will consume fuel. Fuel consumption
can be improved by avoiding overuse of the heater.
◆Checking tire inflation pressure
Make sure to check the tire inflation pressure frequently. Improper tire infla-
tion pressure can cause poor fuel economy.
Also, as snow tires can cause large amou nts of friction, their use on dry roads
can lead to poor fuel economy. Use ti res that are appropriate for the season.
◆Luggage
Carrying heavy luggage will lead to poor fuel economy. Avoid carrying
unnecessary luggage. Installing a large roof rack will also cause poor fuel
economy.
◆Warming up before driving
Since the gasoline engine starts up and cuts out automatically when cold,
warming up the engine is unnecessary. Moreover, frequently driving short dis-
tances will cause the engine to repeated ly warm up, which can lead to excess
fuel consumption.

: When the personal/interior light main switch is in the off position, the rear inte-
rior light will not turn on even if the door
is opened with the rear interior light
switch in door position.
●Illuminated entry system: The lights automatical ly turn on/off according to power switch
mode, the presence of the electronic key, whether the doors are locked/unlocked, and
whether the doors are opened/closed.
●If the interior lights remain on when the power switch is turned off, the lights will go off
automatically after 20 minutes.
●Settings (e.g. the time elapsed before the lights turn off) can be changed.

To set the visor in the forward posi-
tion, flip it down.
To set the visor in the side position,
flip down, unhook, and swing it to the
side.
To use the side extender, place the
visor in the side position, then slide it
backward.
Slide the cover to open.
The light turns on when the cover is
opened.
If the vanity light remain on when the power switch is turned off, the light will go off auto-
matically after 20 minutes.

If the hybrid system will not start
One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
●The electronic key may not be functioning properly.* (
 P. 5 6 0 )
●There may not be sufficient fuel in the vehicle’s tank.
Refuel the vehicle. ( P. 7 1 )
●There may be a malfunction in the immobilizer system.* ( P. 74 )
●There may be a malfunction in the shift control system.* ( P. 1 5 8 , 5 3 9 )
●The hybrid system may be malfunctioni ng due to an electrical problem such
as electronic key battery depletion or a blown fuse. However, depending on
the type of malfunction, an interim meas ure is available to start the hybrid sys-
tem. ( P. 5 5 9 )
*: It may not be possible to shift the shift position other than P.
One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
●The 12-volt battery may be discharged. ( P. 5 6 2 )
●The 12-volt battery terminal connections may be loose or corroded.
( P. 4 8 6 )
Reasons for the hybrid system not starting vary depending on the situation.
Check the following and perform the appropriate procedure:
The hybrid system will not start ev en though the correct starting proce-
dure is being followed. ( P. 156)
The interior lights and headlights are dim, or the horn does not sound or
sounds at a low volume.
