be driven with the quantity of fuel remaining.
• This distance is computed based on your average
fuel consumption. As a result, the actual distance
that can be driven may differ from that displayed.
• When only a small amount of fuel is added to the tank, the display may not be updated.
Displays the average fuel consumption since the
vehicle was last refueled.
Displays the current rate of fuel consumption.
Displays the outside air temperature.
The temperature range that can be displayed is from

Cargo and luggage
Capacity and distributionCargo capacity depends on the total weight of the occupants.
(Cargo capacity) = (Total load cap acity) — (Total weight of occupants)
Steps for Determining Correct Load Limit—
(1) Locate the statement “The combined weight of occupants and cargo should never exceed XXX kg or XXX lbs.” on your vehicle’s
placard.
(2) Determine the combined weight of the driver and passengers that will be riding in your vehicle.
(3) Subtract the combined weight of the driver and passengers from XXX kg or XXX lbs.
Take notice of the following information about storage precautions, cargo
capacity and load.
â—ŹStow cargo and luggage in the trunk whenever possible. Be sure all
items are secured in place.
â—Ź Be careful to keep the vehicle level. Placing the weight as far for-
ward as possible helps maintain vehicle balance.
â—Ź For better fuel economy, do not carry unnecessary weight.

4-1. Maintenance and care
Cleaning and protecting the vehicle exterior
â– Automatic car washes
â—ŹFold the mirrors back before washing the vehicle.
â—ŹBrushes used in automatic car washes may scratch the vehicle surface and
harm your vehicle’s paint.
â—ŹBefore entering an automatic car wash, check that the fuel filler door is closed.
â– High pressure washers
Do not allow the nozzles of the washers to come within close proximity of the win-
dows and fuel filler door.
Perform the following to protect the vehicle and maintain it in prime condi-
tion.
â—ŹWorking from top to bottom, liberally apply water to the vehicle
body, wheel wells and underside of the vehicle to remove any dirt
and dust.
Wash the vehicle body using a sponge or soft cloth, such as a chamois.
â—ŹFor hard-to-remove marks, use car wash soap and rinse thor-
oughly with water.
â—Ź Wipe away any water.
â—Ź Wax the vehicle when the waterproof coating deteriorates.
If water does not bead on a clean surface, apply wax when the vehicle
body is cool.

â– Allow inspection and repairs to be performed by a Lexus dealer
â—ŹLexus technicians are well-trained specialists and are kept up to date with the
latest service information. They are well informed about the operations of all
systems on your vehicle.
â—ŹKeep a copy of the repair order. It proves that the maintenance that has been
performed is under warranty coverage. If any problem should arise while your
vehicle is under warranty, your Lexus dealer will promptly take care of it.
CAUTION
â– Hazardous materials
â—ŹEngine exhaust, some of its constituents, and a wide variety of automobile com-
ponents contain or emit chemicals known to the State of California to cause can-
cer and birth defects and other reproductive harm. Work in a well ventilated area.
â—ŹOils, fuels and fluids contained in vehicles as well as waste produced by compo-
nent wear contain or emit chemicals known to the State of California to cause
cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. Avoid exposure and wash
any affected area immediately.
â—Ź12 volt battery posts, terminals and related accessories contain lead and lead
compounds which are known to cause brain damage. Wash your hands after
handling. (→P. 4 1 7 )
â—ŹUsed engine oil contains chemicals that have been shown to cause cancer in lab-
oratory animals. Avoid prolonged and repeated contact. Always protect your
skin by washing thoroughly with soap and water.

Emission inspection and maintenance (I/M) programs
Some states have vehicle emission inspection programs which include
OBD (On Board Diagnostics) checks. The OBD system monitors the oper-
ation of the emission control system.
â– If the malfunction indicator lamp comes on
The OBD system determines that a problem exists somewhere in
the emission control system. Your vehicle may not pass the I/M test
and may need to be repaired. Cont act your Lexus dealer to service
the vehicle.
â– Your vehicle may not pass the I/M test:
â—Ź When the 12 volt battery is disconnected or discharged
Readiness codes that are set du ring ordinary driving are erased.
Also, depending on your driving habits, the readiness codes may
not be completely set.
â—Ź When the fuel tank cap is loose
The malfunction indicator lamp comes on as a temporary mal-
function and your vehicle may not pass the I/M test.
â– When the malfunction indicator la mp goes off after several driv-
ing trips
The error code in the OBD system will not be cleared unless the
vehicle is driven 40 or more times.
â– If your vehicle does not pass the I/M test
Contact your Lexus dealer to prepare the vehicle for re-testing.

CAUTION
The engine compartment contains many mechanisms and fluids that may move sud-
denly, become hot, or become electrically energized. To avoid death or serious injury,
observe the following precautions.
â– When working on the engine compartment
â—ŹKeep hands, clothing, and tools away from the moving fan and engine drive belt.
â—ŹBe careful not to touch the engine, radiator, exhaust manifold, etc. right after driv-
ing as they may be hot. Oil and other fluids may also be hot.
â—ŹDo not leave anything that may burn easily, such as paper or rags, in the engine
compartment.
â—ŹDo not smoke, cause sparks or expose an open flame to fuel or the 12 volt battery.
Fuel and 12 volt battery fumes are flammable.
â—ŹBe extremely cautious when working on the 12 volt battery. It contains poisonous
and corrosive sulfuric acid.
â– When working near the electric cooling fan or radiator grille
Be sure the “ENGINE START STOP” switch is OFF.
With the “ENGINE START STOP” switch in IGNITION ON mode, the electric
cooling fan may automatically start to run if the air conditioning is on and/or the
coolant temperature is high. (→P. 4 1 5 )
â– Safety glasses
Wear safety glasses to prevent flying or falling material, fluid spray, etc. from getting
in the eyes.
NOTICE
â– If you remove the air cleaner filter
Driving with the air cleaner filter removed may cause excessive engine wear due to
dirt in the air. Also a backfire could cause a fire in the engine compartment.
