Hood Ajar
Displays when the ignition is onand the hood is not completelyclosed.
Low Fuel Level
Illuminates when the fuel level islow or the fuel tank is nearlyempty. Refuel as soon as possible.
Low Tire Pressure Warning
It illuminates if the tire pressure inone or more tires is below thecorrect tire pressure.

Low Beam Malfunction Warning Lamp
(If Equipped)
It illuminates when there is amalfunction with the low beamheadlamp bulb.
Low Washer Fluid
Illuminates when the windshieldwasher fluid is low.
Parking Lamps
Illuminates when you switch theparking lamps on.
Powertrain Fault
Illuminates when a powertrain oran AWD fault has been detected. Contact an authorized dealer.
Service Engine Soon
If it illuminates when the engine isrunning this indicates amalfunction. The On BoardDiagnostics system has detected amalfunction of the vehicle emission controlsystem.
If it flashes, engine misfire may be occurring. Increased exhaust gas temperatures coulddamage the catalytic converter or othervehicle components. Drive in a moderatefashion (avoid heavy acceleration anddeceleration) and have your vehicleimmediately serviced.
It illuminates when you switch the ignitionon prior to engine start to check the bulb andto indicate whether your vehicle is ready forInspection and Maintenance (I/M) testing.
Normally, it illuminates until the engine iscranked and automatically turns off if nomalfunctions are present. However, if after15 seconds it flashes eight times, thisindicates that your vehicle is not ready forInspection and Maintenance (I/M) testing.See Emission Law (page 190).

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
WARNING: Do not overfill the fuel tank.The pressure in an overfilled tank may causeleakage and lead to fuel spray and fire.
WARNING: The fuel system may beunder pressure. If you hear a hissing soundnear the fuel filler inlet, do not refuel until thesound stops. Otherwise, fuel may spray out,which could cause serious personal injury.
WARNING: Fuels can cause seriousinjury or death if misused or mishandled.
WARNING: Fuel may contain benzene,which is a cancer-causing agent.
WARNING: When refueling always shutthe engine off and never allow sparks oropen flames near the fuel tank filler valve.Never smoke or use a cell phone whilerefueling. Fuel vapor is extremely hazardousunder certain conditions. Avoid inhalingexcess fumes.
Follow these guidelines when refueling:
•Extinguish all smoking materials and anyopen flames before refueling yourvehicle.
•Always switch the engine off beforerefueling.
•Automotive fuels can be harmful or fatalif swallowed. Fuel is highly toxic and ifswallowed can cause death or permanentinjury. If fuel is swallowed immediatelycall a physician, even if no symptoms areimmediately apparent. The toxic effectsof fuel may not be apparent for hours.
•Avoid inhaling fuel vapors. Inhaling fuelvapor can lead to eye and respiratorytract irritation. In severe cases, excessiveor prolonged breathing of fuel vapor cancause serious illness and permanentinjury.
•Avoid getting fuel in your eyes. If yousplash fuel in your eyes, immediatelyremove contact lenses (if worn), flush withwater for 15 minutes and seek medicalattention. Failure to seek proper medicalattention could lead to permanent injury.
•Fuels can be harmful if absorbed throughthe skin. If you splash fuel on your skin,clothing or both, promptly removecontaminated clothing and thoroughlywash your skin with soap and water.Repeated or prolonged skin contactcauses skin irritation.
•Be particularly careful if you are takingAntabuse or other forms of Disulfiram forthe treatment of alcoholism. Breathingfuel vapors could cause an adversereaction, serious personal injury orsickness. Immediately call a physician ifyou experience any adverse reactions.

WARNING: Do not pry open the fueltank filler valve. This could damage the fuelsystem. Failure to follow this instruction couldresult in fire, personal injury or death.
WARNING: Do not remove the fuelpump nozzle from its fully inserted positionwhen refueling.
WARNING: Stop refueling when thefuel pump nozzle automatically shuts off forthe first time. Failure to follow this will fill theexpansion space in the fuel tank and couldlead to fuel overflowing.
WARNING: Do not overfill the fuel tank.The pressure in an overfilled tank may causeleakage and lead to fuel spray and fire.
WARNING: Wait at least five secondsbefore removing the fuel pump nozzle toallow any residual fuel to drain into the fueltank.
1. Fully open the fuel filler door.
2. Select the correct fuel pump nozzle foryour vehicle.
3.Insert the fuel pump nozzle up to the firstnotch on the nozzle A. Keep the fuelpump nozzle resting on the fuel tank fillerpipe.

FUEL CONSUMPTION
Advertised Capacity
The advertised capacity is the maximumamount of fuel that you can add to the fueltank after running out of fuel. Included in theadvertised capacity is an empty reserve. Theempty reserve is an unspecified amount offuel that remains in the fuel tank when thefuel gauge indicates empty.
Note:The amount of fuel in the emptyreserve varies and should not be relied uponto increase driving range.
Fuel Economy
Your vehicle calculates fuel economy figuresthrough the trip computer average fuelfunction. See General Information (page115).
The first 1,000 mi (1,500 km) of driving is thebreak-in period of the engine. A moreaccurate measurement is obtained after2,000 mi (3,000 km).
Impacting Fuel Economy
•Incorrect tire inflation pressures.
•Fully loading your vehicle.
•Carrying unnecessary weight.
•Adding certain accessories to yourvehicle such as bug deflectors, rollbarsor light bars, running boards and skiracks.
•Using fuel blended with alcohol. SeeFuel Quality (page 183).
•Fuel economy may decrease with lowertemperatures.
•Fuel economy may decrease whendriving short distances.
•You may get better fuel economy whendriving on flat terrain than when drivingon hilly terrain.

WARNING: When lifting a plastic-casedbattery, excessive pressure on the end wallscould cause acid to flow through the ventcaps, resulting in personal injury and damageto the vehicle or battery. Lift the battery witha battery carrier or with your hands onopposite corners.
WARNING: Keep batteries out of reachof children. Batteries contain sulfuric acid.Avoid contact with skin, eyes or clothing.Shield your eyes when working near thebattery to protect against possible splashingof acid solution. In case of acid contact withskin or eyes, flush immediately with waterfor a minimum of 15 minutes and get promptmedical attention. If acid is swallowed, call aphysician immediately.
WARNING: Battery posts, terminalsand related accessories contain lead andlead compounds. Wash hands after handling.
WARNING: For vehicles withAuto-Start-Stop the battery requirement isdifferent. You must replace the battery withone of exactly the same specification.
Your vehicle is fitted with a Motorcraftmaintenance-free battery which normallydoes not require additional water.
When a battery replacement is required, youmust use a recommended replacementbattery that matches the electricalrequirements of the vehicle.
Note:If your vehicle has a battery cover,after cleaning or replacing the battery, makesure you reinstall it.
Note:See an authorized dealer for batteryaccess, testing, or replacement.
To make sure the battery managementsystem works correctly, do not connect anelectrical device ground connection directlyto the battery negative post. This can causeinaccurate measurements of the batterycondition and potential incorrect systemoperation.
Note:If you add electrical accessories orcomponents to the vehicle, it may adverselyaffect battery performance and durability.This may also affect the performance ofother electrical systems in the vehicle.
If you see any corrosion on the battery orterminals, remove the cables from theterminals and clean with a wire brush. Youcan neutralize the acid with a solution ofbaking soda and water.
Because your vehicle’s engine iselectronically-controlled by a computer,some engine control settings are maintainedby power from the battery. Some enginecomputer settings, like the idle trim and fueltrim strategy, optimize the driveability andperformance of the engine. The clock andradio station presets are also maintained inmemory by power from the low-voltagebattery. These settings are erased when atechnician disconnects and connects thelow-voltage battery.
To restore the settings, do the following:

GENERAL INFORMATION
The recommended tire inflation pressuresare on the tire information label on the driverside B-pillar.
Check and set the tire pressure at theambient temperature in which you areintending to drive your vehicle and when thetires are cold. See Technical Specifications(page 370).
Note:Check your tire pressures regularly tooptimize fuel economy.
Only use approved wheel and tire sizes.Using other sizes could damage your vehicleand could make the National Type Approvalinvalid.
Installation of any tires that are not theoriginal equipment tire size can cause thespeedometer to display incorrect vehiclespeed.
TIRE CARE
Important Information About Low-Profile Tires
If your vehicle is equipped with245/40R20 tires, they are low-profiletires. These tires and wheels aredesigned to give your vehicle a sportappearance. With low-profile tires, youmay notice an increase in road noiseand faster tire wear, depending on roadconditions and driving styles. Due totheir design, low-profile tires and wheelsare more prone to road damage frompotholes, rough or unpaved roads, carwash rails and curb contact thanstandard tires and wheels.
Note:Your vehicle's warranty does notcover these types of damages. Extracaution should be taken when operatingon rough roads to avoid impacts thatcould cause wheel and tire damage.
Information About Uniform Tire QualityGrading
Tire Quality Grades apply to newpneumatic passenger car tires. TheQuality grades can be found whereapplicable on the tire sidewall betweentread shoulder and maximum sectionwidth. For example: Treadwear 200Traction AA Temperature A.
These Tire Quality Grades aredetermined by standards that the UnitedStates Department of Transportation hasset.

Each tire, including the spare (ifprovided), should be checkedmonthly when cold and inflated tothe inflation pressure recommended by thevehicle manufacturer on the vehicle placardor tire inflation pressure label. (If your vehiclehas tires of a different size than the sizeindicated on the vehicle placard or tireinflation pressure label, you shoulddetermine the proper tire inflation pressurefor those tires).
As an added safety feature, your vehicle hasbeen equipped with a Tire PressureMonitoring System (TPMS) that illuminates alow tire pressure telltale when one or moreof your tires is significantly under-inflated.Accordingly, when the low tire pressuretelltale illuminates, you should stop andcheck your tires as soon as possible, andinflate them to the proper pressure. Drivingon a significantly under-inflated tire causesthe tire to overheat and can lead to tirefailure. Under-inflation also reduces fuelefficiency and tire tread life, and may affectthe vehicle’s handling and stopping ability.
Please note that the TPMS is not a substitutefor proper tire maintenance, and it is thedriver’s responsibility to maintain correct tirepressure, even if under-inflation has notreached the level to trigger illumination ofthe TPMS low tire pressure telltale.
Your vehicle has also been equipped with aTPMS malfunction indicator to indicate whenthe system is not operating properly. TheTPMS malfunction indicator is combined withthe low tire pressure telltale. When thesystem detects a malfunction, the telltale willflash for approximately one minute and thenremain continuously illuminated. Thissequence will continue upon subsequentvehicle start-ups as long as the malfunctionexists.
When the malfunction indicator is illuminated,the system may not be able to detect orsignal low tire pressure as intended. TPMSmalfunctions may occur for a variety ofreasons, including the installation ofreplacement or alternate tires or wheels onthe vehicle that prevent the TPMS from
functioning properly. Always check the TPMSmalfunction telltale after replacing one ormore tires or wheels on your vehicle toensure that the replacement or alternate tiresand wheels allow the TPMS to continue tofunction properly.
