PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
WARNING: To help avoid personalinjury, always use caution when in reverse(R) and when using the sensing system.
WARNING: The system may not detectobjects with surfaces that absorb reflection.Always drive with due care and attention.Failure to take care may result in a crash.
WARNING: Traffic control systems,inclement weather, air brakes, externalmotors and fans may affect the correctoperation of the sensing system.This maycause reduced performance or false alerts.
WARNING: The system may not detectsmall or moving objects, particularly thoseclose to the ground.
Note:If your vehicle is equipped withMyKey™, the sensing system cannot beturned off when a MyKey™ is present. SeePrinciple of Operation (page 62).
Note:Keep the sensors, located on thebumper or fascia, free from snow, ice andlarge accumulations of dirt. If the sensorsare covered, the system’s accuracy can beaffected. Do not clean the sensors with sharpobjects.
Note:If your vehicle sustains damage to thebumper or fascia, leaving it misaligned orbent, the sensing zone may be alteredcausing inaccurate measurement ofobstacles or false alerts.
Note:Certain add-on devices installedaround the bumper or fascia may createfalse alerts. For example, large trailerhitches, bike or surfboard racks, license platebrackets, bumper covers or any other devicethat may block the normal detection zoneof the system. Remove the add-on device toprevent false alerts.
Note:When a trailer is connected to yourvehicle, the rear parking aid may detect thetrailer and therefore provide an alert. Disablethe rear parking aid when a trailer isconnected to prevent the alert.
The sensing system warns the driver ofobstacles within a certain range of yourvehicle. The system turns on automaticallywhenever you switch the ignition on.
The system can be switched off through theinformation display menu or from the pop-upmessage that appears once you shift thetransmission into reverse (R). See GeneralInformation (page 110).
If a fault is present in the system, a warningmessage appears in the information display.See Information Messages (page 121).
REAR PARKING AID
The rear sensors are only active when thetransmission is in reverse (R). As your vehiclemoves closer to the obstacle, the rate of theaudible warning increases. When theobstacle is less than 12 in (30 cm) away, thewarning sounds continuously. If the systemdetects a stationary or receding objectfarther than 12 in (30 cm) from the corners ofthe bumper, the tone sounds for only threeseconds. Once the system detects an objectapproaching, the warning sounds again.

When you switch the system on and itdetects an unintentional drift out of your laneis likely to occur, the system notifies orassists you to stay in your lane through thesteering system and information display.Depending on the feature operation modeyou select, the system provides a warningby vibrating the steering wheel or a steeringassistance by gently counter steering yourvehicle back into the lane.
Switching the System On and Off
Note:The system on or off setting is storeduntil it is manually changed, unless a MyKey™is detected. If the system detects a MyKey™,it defaults to on and the mode is set to alert.
Press the button on the direction indicatorstalk to switch the system on or off.
System Settings
The system has optional setting menusavailable. The system stores the last-knownselection for each of these settings. You donot need to readjust your settings each timeyou switch on the system.
Mode: This setting allows you to select whichof the system features you can enable.
Alert only – Provides a steering wheelvibration when the system detects anunintended lane departure.
Aid only – Provides steering assistancetoward the lane center when the systemdetects an unintended lane departure.

Using Lincoln Drive Control
You can configure which of the Drive Controlmodes are active when your vehicle is indrive (D). The configuration remains activeuntil modified from the main menu on theinformation display.
You can change your vehicle's Drive Controlsettings from the main menu on theinformation display. See GeneralInformation (page 110).
Note:Not all settings may be available.
Note:Lincoln Drive Control has diagnosticchecks that continuously monitor the systemto ensure proper operation. Certain types ofsystem errors will gray out the modeselections within the information display,preventing you from changing states whenthe gear position is changed. Other types oferrors will produce a temporary messagethat states Drive Control Malfunction. If eithercondition persists for multiple key cycles,have your vehicle checked by an authorizeddealer.

ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE
Vehicles Sold in the United States:Getting Roadside Assistance
To fully assist you should you have a vehicleconcern, Lincoln Motor Company offers acomplimentary roadside assistance program. This program is separate from the NewVehicle Limited Warranty.
The service is available:
•Throughout the life of the vehicle fororiginal owners.
•For six years from the warranty start dateor 70,000 mi (110,000 km), whichevercomes first, for subsequent owners.
Roadside Assistance covers:
•A flat tire change with a good spare(except vehicles supplied with a tireinflation kit, which may need a tow to thenearest Lincoln dealer).
•Battery jump start.
•Lock-out assistance (key replacementcost is the client's responsibility).
•Fuel delivery — independent servicecontractors, if not prohibited by state,local or municipal law shall deliver up to2 gal (8 L) of gasoline or 5 gal (20 L) ofdiesel fuel to a disabled vehicle.Roadside Assistance limits fuel deliveryservice to two no-charge occurrenceswithin a 12-month period.
•Winch out — available within 100 ft (30 m)of a paved or county maintained road,no recoveries.
•Towing — independent servicecontractors, if not prohibited by state,local or municipal law shall tow Lincolneligible vehicles to the client's selling orpreferred dealer within 100 mi (160 km)of the disablement location or to thenearest Lincoln dealer. If a client requestsa tow to a selling or preferred dealer thatis more than 100 mi (160 km) from thedisablement location, the client isresponsible for any mileage costs inexcess of 100 mi (160 km).
•Roadside Assistance includes up to $200for a towed trailer if the disabled eligiblevehicle requires service at the nearestauthorized dealer.
Vehicles Sold in the United States:Using Roadside Assistance
United States clients who require roadsideassistance, call 1-800-521-4140.
If you need to arrange roadside assistancefor yourself, Lincoln Motor Companyreimburses a reasonable amount for towingto the nearest Lincoln dealership within100 mi (160 km). To obtain reimbursementinformation, United States clients, call1-800-521-4140. Clients need to submit theiroriginal receipts.

HAZARD FLASHERS
Note:The hazard flashers operate when theignition is in any position, or if the key is notin the ignition. If used when the vehicle is notrunning, the battery loses charge. As a result,there may be insufficient power to restartyour vehicle.
The flasher control is on theinstrument panel. Use your hazardflashers when your vehicle iscreating a safety hazard for other motorists.
•Press the flasher control and all front andrear direction indicators flash.
•Press the button again to switch them off.
FUEL SHUTOFF
WARNING: If your vehicle has beeninvolved in a crash, have the fuel systemchecked. Failure to follow this instructioncould result in fire, personal injury or death.
Note: When you try to restart your vehicleafter a fuel shutoff, the vehicle makes surethat various systems are safe to restart. Once the vehicle determines the systemsare safe, then the vehicle allows you torestart.
Note:In the event that your vehicle does notrestart after your third attempt, contact aqualified technician.
The fuel pump shutoff stops the flow of fuelto the engine in the event of a moderate tosevere crash. Not every impact causes ashutoff.
Should your vehicle shut off after a crash,you may restart your vehicle.

In the event of damage or fire involving anelectric vehicle or hybrid-electric vehicle:
•Always assume the high-voltage batteryand associated components areenergized and fully charged.
•Exposed electrical components, wires,and high-voltage batteries presentpotential high-voltage shock hazards.
•Venting high-voltage battery vapors arepotentially toxic and flammable.
•Physical damage to the vehicle orhigh-voltage battery may result inimmediate or delayed release of toxic,flammable gases and fire.
Vehicle information and general safetypractices:
•Know the make and model of yourvehicle.
•Review the owner’s manual and becomefamiliar with your vehicle’s safetyinformation and recommended safetypractices.
•Do not attempt to repair damagedelectric and hybrid-electric vehiclesyourself.
Contact an authorized dealer.
Crashes
A crash or impact significant enough torequire an emergency response forconventional vehicles would also require thesame response for an electric orhybrid-electric vehicle.
If possible:
•Move your vehicle to a safe, nearbylocation and remain on the scene.
•Roll down the windows before switchingyour vehicle off.
•Place your vehicle in park (P), set theparking brake, switch off the vehicle,activate the hazard warning flashers andmove your key(s) at least 15 ft (5 m) awayfrom the vehicle.
Always:
•Call emergency assistance if needed andadvise that an electric or hybrid-electricvehicle is involved.
•Exposed electrical components, wires,and high-voltage batteries presentpotential high-voltage shock hazards.

Safety Information
WARNING: Driving while distractedcan result in loss of vehicle control, crashand injury. We strongly recommend that youuse extreme caution when using any devicethat may take your focus off the road. Yourprimary responsibility is the safe operationof your vehicle. We recommend against theuse of any hand-held device while drivingand encourage the use of voice-operatedsystems when possible. Make sure you areaware of all applicable local laws that mayaffect the use of electronic devices whiledriving.
•Do not attempt to service or repair thesystem. Have an authorized dealercheck your vehicle.
•Do not operate playing devices if thepower cords or cables are broken, splitor damaged. Place cords and cables outof the way, so they do not interfere withthe operation of pedals, seats,compartments or safe driving abilities.
•Do not leave playing devices in yourvehicle during extreme conditions as itcould cause them damage. See yourdevice's user guide for furtherinformation.
•For your safety, some SYNC 3 functionsare speed-dependent. Their use is limitedto when your vehicle is traveling atspeeds under 3 mph (5 km/h). Make surethat you review your device's manualbefore using it with SYNC 3.
Speed-restricted Features
Some features of this system may be toodifficult to use while your vehicle is movingso they are restricted from use unless yourvehicle is stationary.
•Screens crowded with information, suchas Points of Interest reviews and ratings,SiriusXM Travel Link sports information,or ski condition search areas.
•Any action that requires you to use akeyboard is restricted, such as enteringa navigation destination or editinginformation.
•All lists are limited so the user can viewfewer entries (such as phone contacts orrecent phone call entries).

Potential reception issues
For optimal reception performance, keep the antenna clear of snow and ice build-up and keepluggage and other materials as far away from the antenna as possible.Antenna obstructions
