If it is absolutely necessary to instal laforward-
facing child restraint system on the front-
passengers eat, always move the front-
passengers eata sfar back as possible. Fully
retract the sea tcushion length. The entire base
of the child restraint system must always res ton
the sea tcushion of the front-passenger seat.
The backres tofthe child restraint system must
li easf lata sp ossibl eagain st the backres tofthe
front-passenger seat. The child restraint system
must not touch the roo forbesubjected to aloa d
by the hea drestraint. Adjust the angle of the
sea tbackres tand the hea drestraint position
accordingly. Alway smakes uret hatt he shoul-

cle belt outle ttothe shoulde rbeltg uide on the
child restraint system .The shoulde rbelts trap
must be routed forwards and downwards from

accordingly.
Alway sobserve the child restraint system man-
ufacturer's installatio nand operating instruc-
tions.
Pets in the vehicle
GWARNING
If yo uleave animals unattended or unsecured
in the vehicle, they could press buttons or
switches, for example.
As aresult, they could:

Unsecured animals could also be flung around

You can chang ethe setting softhelocking sys-
tem. This mean sthato nlyt he driver's door and
th ef uel filler flap are unlocke dwhen th evehicl e
is unlocked. This is useful if you frequentl ytravel
alone.

for approximately six seconds until th ebat-
tery chec klamp (

Unlocking and opening doors from
the inside
You can openadoor from inside the vehicle
even if it has been locked. If the vehicle has been
locked with the SmartKey or with KEYLESS-GO,
openin gadoor from the inside will trigger the
anti-theft alarm system .Switc hoff the alarm
(
Ypage 73).
XPull door handle ;.
If the door is locked, locking knob :pops up.
The door is unlocked and opens.
Centrally locking and unlocking the
vehicle from the inside
You can centrally lock and unlock the vehicle
from the inside. The switches are on the driver’s
door.
XTo unlock: press button :.
XTo lock:press button ;.
When the front-passenge rdoor is closed, the
vehicle is locked.
Meanwhile, the fuel filler flap will not be locked
or unlocked. You cannot unlock the vehicle centrally from the
inside if the vehicle has been locked with the
SmartKey or KEYLESS-GO.
The doors can be opened from the inside.
If the vehicle has been locked with the SmartKey
or with KEYLESS-GO, openin gadoor from the
inside will trigger the anti-theft alarm system.
Switc hoff the alarm (
Ypage 73).
When alocked door is opened from inside the
vehicle, the previous unlocking process will be
acknowledged if the vehicle:
Rhas been locked with the locking button for
the central locking or
Rhas been locked automatically
The vehicle will be fully unlocked if it had previ-
ously been fully unlocked. If only the driver's
door had been previously unlocked, only the
door which has been opened from the inside is
unlocked.
Automatic locking feature
XTo deactivate: press and hold button :for
approximately five seconds until atone
sounds.
XTo activate: press and hold button ;for
approximately five seconds until atone
sounds.
If you press one of the two buttons and do not
hear atone, the relevants etting has already
been selected.
The vehicle is locked automatically when the
ignition is switched on and the wheels are turn-
ing.
You could therefore be locked out if:
Rthe vehicle is being pushed.
Rthe vehicle is being towed.
Rthe vehicle is on aroller dynamometer.

GWARNING

There is arisk of an accident.
Adjust the driver's seat, headr estraint, steer-
ing whee land mirror and fasten you rseat belt
before starting the engine.
GWARNING
If you adjust the seat height carelessly, you or
other vehicleo ccupants couldbetrappe dand
thereby injured .Childre ninparticular could
accidentally press the electrica lseat adjust-
ment buttons and become trapped. There is a
risk of injury.
Whil emoving the seats, make sure that your
hands or other body parts do not get under the
leve rassembly of the seat adjustment sys-
tem.
GWARNING
If the headr estraints are not installed or not
adjusted correctly, they cannot providep ro-
tection as intended. There is an increased risk
of injury in the heada nd neck area,e.g. in the
event of an accident or when braking.
Always drive with the headr estraints instal-
led .Before driving off, make sure for every
vehicleo ccupant that the center of the head
restraint supports the back of the heada t
about eye level.
GWARNING
The seat beltd oes not offer the intended level
of protection if you have not moved the back-
rest to an almost vertical position. When brak-
ing or in the event of an accident, you could
slid eunderneath the seat belta nd sustain
abdomen or neck injuries, for example. This
posesani ncreased risk of injury or even fatal
injury.
Adjust the seat properly before beginning
you rjourney .Always ensure that the backrest
is in an almost vertical position and that the
shoulde rsection of you rseat beltisr outed
across the center of you rshoulder.
!To avoi ddamage to the seats and the seat
heating, observe the following information:
Rkeep liquid sfrom spilling on the seats. If
liquid is spilled on the seats, dry them as
soon as possible.
Rif the seat covers are damp or wet, do not
switch on the seat heating. The seat heat-
ing should als onot be used to dry the seats.
Rclea nthe seat covers as recommended;
see "Interio rcare".
Rdo not transport heav yloads on the seats.
Do not place sharp objects on the seat
cushions, e.g. knives, nail sortools. The
seats should only be occupied by passen-
gers, if possible.
Rwhen the seat heating is in operation, do
not cover the seats with insulating materi-
als ,e.g. blankets, coats, bags, seat covers,
child seats or booster seats.
!Make sure that there are no objects in the
footwel lunder or behind the seats when mov-
ing the seats back. There is arisk that the
seats and/or the objects coul dbedamaged.
iThe rear-compartment head restraints can
be removed (Ypag e99).
Vehicles without the through-loading feature:
the head restraints cannot be removed from
the rear compartment seats.

The three red indicator lamps in the button indi-
cate the heating level you have selected.
The system automatically switches down from
level3to level 2after approximately eight
minutes.
The system automatically switches down from
level 2to level 1after approximately ten
minutes.
The system automatically switches off approx-
imately 20 minutes after it is set to level 1.
XTurn the SmartKey to position1or 2in the
ignition lock (Ypage 131).
XTo switch on: press button:repeatedly
until the desired heating level is set.
XTo switch off: press button:repeatedly
until all the indicator lamps go out.
iIf the battery voltage is too low, the seat
heating may switch off.
iIf drive program E(Ypage 144) is selected,
the power of the seat heating is reduced.
Switching the seat ventilation on/off
The three blue indicator lamps in the buttons
indicate the ventilation level you have selected.
XTurn the SmartKey to position 1or 2in the
ignition lock (Ypage 131).
XTo switch on: press button:repeatedly
until the desired ventilation level is set.
XTo switch off: press button:repeatedly
until all the indicator lamps go out.
iIf the battery voltage is too low, the seat
ventilation may switch off.
iYou can open the side windows and the slid-
ing sunroof using the "Convenienc eopening"
feature (
Ypage 88). The seat ventilation of
the driver's seat automatically switches to the
highest level.
iWhen the vehicle is stationary, the fan
speed can be reduced automatically. This
reduces the noises of the seat ventilation.

Memory function
Important safety notes
GWARNING
If you use the memory function on the driver's side while driving, you coul dlose control of
the vehicleasar esult of the adjustments
being made .There is arisk of an accident.
Only use the memory function on the driver's
side when the vehicleiss tationary.
GWARNING
When the memory function adjusts the seat or steering wheel, you and other vehicleo ccu-
pants –particularly children –coul db ecome
trapped. There is arisk of injury.
Whil ethe memory function is making adjust-
ments, make sure that no one has any body
parts in the swee pofthe seat or steering
wheel. If somebody becomest rapped, imme-
diately release the memory function position
button. The adjustment process is stopped.
GWARNING
Childre ncoul db ecome trappe difthey acti-
vate the memory function, particularly when
unattended .There is arisk of injury.
When leaving the vehicle, alway stake the
SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle. Never
leave children unsupervised in the vehicle.
The memory function can be use datany time,
e.g. even when the key is not in the ignitio nlock.
Storing settings
With the memory function, you can store up to
three different settings, e.g. for three different
people.
The following settings are stored as asingle
memory preset:
Rposition of the seat, backrest and head
restraint
Rdriver's side:p osition of the exterior mirrors
on the driver's and front-passenger sides
Rposition of the head-up display
XAdjust the seat accordingly (Ypag e98).
XOn the driver's side ,adjust the steering wheel
(Ypag e104) and the exterior mirrors
(Ypag e106).
XPress memory button Mand one of the stor-
age position buttons 1,2or 3withi nthree
seconds.
The settings are stored in the selected preset
position. Atone sound swhen the settings
have been completed.
Calling up astored setting
XPress and hold the corresponding storage
position button 1,2or 3until:
Rseat
Rsteering wheel
Rexterior mirrors
Rhead-up display
are in the stored position.
iIf you release the storage position button,
the seat, steering whee land mirror setting
functions stop immediately. The adjustment
of the head-up display is still carrie dout.
