Activating/deactivatin
gthe EASY-
ENTRY/EXIT feature G
WARNING
When th eEASY-ENTRY/EXIT feature adjusts
th es teering wheel ,you and other vehicle
occupants –particularly childre n–could
become trapped. There is arisk of injury.
While the EASY-ENTRY/EXIT feature is
making adjustments, make sure that no one
has any body parts in the sweep of the
steering wheel.
If somebody becomes trapped:
R press one of the memory function position
buttons, or
R move the switch for steering wheel
adjustmen tinthe opposite direction to that
in which the steering wheel is moving.
The adjustment process is stopped.
X Press the 000Aor0004 button on the
steering wheel to select the Settingsmenu.
X Press the 0005or0006 button to select the
Convenience submenu.
X Press 000Cto confirm.
X Press the 0005or0006 button to select the
Easy Entry/Exit: function.
If the Easy Entry/Exit function is
activated, the vehicle steering wheel is
displayed in red in the multifunction
display.
X Press the 000Cbutton to save the setting.

Switching the belt adjustment on/off
X Press the 000Aor0004 button on the
steering wheel to select the Sett. menu.
X Press the 0005or0006 button to select the
Convenience submenu.
X Press 000Cto confirm. X
Press the 0005or0006 button to select the
Belt Adjustment function.
When the Belt Adjustment function is
activated, the vehicle seat belt is displayed
in red in the multifunction display.
X Press the 000Cbutton to save the setting.
For further information on belt adjustment,
see (Y page 57).
Switching the fold-in mirrors with the
locking featureo n/off
This function is only available on vehicles with
the memory function (Y page 112).
When you activate the Auto. Mirror Folding function, the exterior mirrors are
folded in when the vehicle is locked. If you
unlock the vehicle and then open adoor, the
exterior mirrors fold out again.
X Press the 000Aor0004 button on the
steering wheel to select the Sett. menu.
X Press the 0005or0006 button to select the
Convenience submenu.
X Press 000Cto confirm.
X Press 0005or0006 to select the Auto. Mirror Folding function.
If the Auto. Mirror Folding function is
activated, the vehicle's exterior mirror is
displayed in red in the multifunction
display.
X Press the 000Cbutton to save the setting. 001A

If you have switched on the Auto. Mirror Folding function and you fold in the exterior
mirrors by pressing button 001A,the exterior Menus and submenus

Manual The front-passenger air bag and front-passenger knee bag are
enabled durin
gthe journey, even though:
R ac hild, asmall adult or an object weighin gless than the
system's weight threshold is located on the front-passenger
seat
or
R the front-passenger seat is unoccupied
The system may detect object sorforces applying additional
weight on the seat.
G WARNING
The front-passenger front air bag and front passenger knee bag
may be triggere dunintentionally.
There is an increased risk of injury.
X Pull over and stop the vehicle safely as soon as possible ,paying
attention to road and traffic conditions.
X Secure the vehicle against rollin gaway (Y page 167).
X Switch the ignition off.
X Open the front-passenger door.
X Remove the child and the child restraint system fro mthe front-
passenger seat.
X Make sure that there are no objectsont he seat adding to the
weight.
The system may otherwise detect the additional weight and
interpret the seat occupant's weight as greater than it actually
is.
X Keep the seat unoccupied, close the front-passenger door and
switch on the ignition.
X Observe the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF indicator lamp in the
center console and the multifunction displaya nd check the
following:
Seat unoccupied and ignition switched on:
R the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF indicator lamp must light up and
remain lit. If the indicator lamp is on, OCS (Occupant
Classification System) has disabled the front-passenger air bag
and front-passenger knee bag (Y page 47).

Befor
ehandling the battery ,touch the vehicle
bod ytor emove any existing electrostatic
build-up.
The highly flammable ga smixture forms when
charging the battery as well as whe njump-
starting.
Always mak esure that neither you no rthe
battery is electrostatically charged. Abuild-
up of electrostati ccharge can be caused, for
example:
R by wearing clothing made from synthetic
fibers
R due to friction between clothing and seats
R if you push or pull the battery across the
carpet or other synthetic materials
R if you wipe the battery with acloth G
WARNING
During the charging process, abattery
produces hydrogen gas. If ashort circuit
occurs or sparks are created, the hydrogen
gas can ignite. There is arisk of an explosion.
R Make sure that the positive terminal of a
connected battery does not come into
contact with vehicle parts.
R Never place metal objectsort ools on a
battery.
R It is important that you observe the
described order of the battery terminals
when connecting and disconnecting a
battery.
R When jump-starting, make sure that the
battery poles with identical polarity are
connected.
R It is particularly important to observe the
described order when connecting and
disconnecting the jumper cables.
R Never connect or disconnectt he battery
terminals while the engine is running. G
WARNING
Batterya cid is caustic. There is arisk of injury.
Avoid contact with the skin, eyes or clothing.
Do not inhale any battery gases. Do not lean over the battery. Keep children away from
batteries. Wash battery acid immediately with
water and seek medical attention.

Environmental note Batteries contain dangerous
substances. It is against the
law to dispose of them with
the household rubbish. They
must be collected separately
and recycled to protect the
environment. Dispose of batteries in an
environmentally friendly
manner. Take discharged
batteries to aqualified
specialist workshop or a
special collection point for
used batteries.
! Have the battery checked regularly at a
qualified specialist workshop.
Observe the service intervals in the
MaintenanceB ooklet or contact aqualified
specialist workshop for more information.
! You should have all work involving the
battery carried out at aqualified specialist
workshop. In th eexcepti onal cas ethatitis
necessar yfor you to disconnect th ebattery
yourself, mak esure that:
R you switch off th eenginea nd remove the
SmartKey. On vehicles wit hKEYLESS-
GO, ensure that th eignition is switched
off .C heck that all the indicator lamps in
the instrumentc luster are off.Otherwise,
electroni ccomponents, such as the
alternator ,may be damaged.
R you first remove the negative terminal
clamp and then the positive terminal
clamp. Never swap the terminal clamps.
Otherwise, the vehicle's electronic
system may be damaged.
R the transmission is locked in position P
after disconnectingt he battery. The
vehicle is secured against rolling away.
You can then no longer move the vehicle. Battery (vehicle)
