Activating/deactivating the acoustic
locking confirmation
If you switch on the
Acoustic Lock function,
an acoustic signal sounds when you loc kthe
vehicle.
X Press the =or; button on the steer-
ing wheel to select the Settings menu.
X Press the :or9 button to select the
Vehicle submenu.
X Press ato confirm.
X Press the :or9 button to select the
Acoustic Lock function.
If the Acoustic Lock function is activated,
the & symbol in the multifunction dis-
play lights up red.
X Press the abutton to save the setting.
Activating/deactivating the radar sensor
system
X Press the =or; button on the steer-
ing wheel to select the Settings menu.
X Press the :or9button to select the
Vehicle submenu.
X Press ato confirm.
X Press the 9or: button to select
Radar sensor (See Owner's Man.): .
You will see the selected setting: on or
off .
X Press the abutton to save the setting.
i You must deactivate the radar sensor sys-
tem in certain countries and near radio
telescope facilities. For further informa-
tion, see (Y page 451).
When you are close to radio telescope facili-
ties, the radar sensor system will be deacti-
vated automatically.
The following systems are switched off when
the radar sensor system is deactivated:
R DISTRONIC PLUS (Y page 195)
R BAS PLUS (Y page 71)
R PRE-SAFE ®
Brake (Y page 76) R
Blind Spot Assist (Y page 225)
R Active Blind Spot Assist (Y page 229)
Heating Auxiliary heating departure time
G
WARNING
Exhaust fumes are produced when the auxili-
ary heating is in operation. Inhaling these
exhaust fumes can be poisonous. You should
therefore switch off the auxiliary heating in
confined spaces without an extraction sys-
tem, e.g. a garage. G
WARNING
When operating the auxiliary heating parts of
the vehicle can get very hot. Make sure that
the exhaust system does not under any cir-
cumstances come into contact with easily
ignitable material such as dry grass or fuels.
The material could otherwise ignite and set
the vehicle alight. Choose your parking spot
accordingly.
Operating the auxiliary heating is thus pro-
hibited at filling stations or when your vehicle
is being refuelled. You must therefore switch
off the auxiliary heating at filling stations.
! Operating the auxiliary heating/ventila-
tion draws on the vehicle battery. After you
have heated or ventilated the vehicle a
maximum of two times, drive for a longer
distance.
This function is only available on vehicles with
auxiliary heating (Y page 151).
In the Heating submenu, you can select a
stored departure time or change a departure
time.
The auxiliary heating timer function calcu-
lates the switch-on time according to the out-
side temperature so that the vehicle is pre-
heated by the departure time. When the
departure time is reached, the auxiliary heat-
ing continues to heat for a further five
minutes and then switches off. The auxiliary 262

R the function is impaired due to heavy rain or snow.
R the sensors in the radiato rtrim and in the bumpers are dirty.
R the rada rsensor system is temporarily inoperative, e.g. due to
electromagnetic radiation emitted by nearby TV or radio sta-
tions or other sources of electromagnetic radiation.
R AMG vehicles: ESP ®
is deactivated.
R the system is outside the operating temperature range.
R the on-board voltage is too low.
Once the causes listed above no longer apply, the display message
goes out.
PRE-SAFE ®
Brake is operational again.
If the display message does not disappear:
X Pull over and stop the vehicle safely as soon as possible, paying
attention to road and traffic conditions.
X Secure the vehicle against rolling away (Y page 183).
X Clean the sensors in the radiator trim and in the bumpers
(Y page 354).
X Restart the engine.
X AMG vehicles: reactivate ESP ®
(Y page 74). PRE-SAFE

If Blind Spot Assist or Active Blind Spot Assist was activated, it is
no longer available. The yellow 9indicator lamps also light up
in the exterior mirrors.
BAS PLUS (Brake Assist PLUS) and PRE-SAFE ®

X Drive on.
Once you have moved far enough away from the radio telescope,
the above functions are available again. Vehicles with Becker

MAP PILOT: if the Becker ®

not connected, the radar sensor system is deactivated automati-
cally.

R visibility is impaired due to heavy rain, snow or fog.
R there are no lane markings for a longer period.
R the lane markings are worn, dark or covered, e.g. by dirt or snow.
Once the causes listed above no longer apply, the display message
goes out.
Lane Keeping Assist or Active Lane Keeping Assist is operational
again.
If the display message does not disappear:
X Pull over and stop the vehicle safely as soon as possible, paying
attention to road and traffic conditions.
X Secure the vehicle against rolling away (Y page 183).

towing a trailer. Blind Spot Assist or Active Blind Spot Assist is temporarily inop-
erative .Possible causes:
R the sensors are dirty.
R the function is impaired due to heavy rain or snow.
R the radar sensor system is outside the operating temperature
range.
R the radar sensor system is temporarily inoperative, e.g. due to
electromagnetic radiation emitted by nearby TV or radio sta-
tions or other sources of electromagnetic radiation.
The yellow 9indicator lamps also light up in the exterior mir-
rors.
Once the causes listed above no longer apply, the display message

R the sensors are dirty.
R a malfunction has occurred.

X Reactivate Parking Guidance late r(Y page 215).
If the parking space symbol does not appear in the multifunction
display at speeds below 30 km/h:
X Clean the sensors (Y page 354).
X Restart the engine.
If the parking space symbol still does not appear in the multifunc-
tion display at speeds below 30 km/h:
X Visit a qualified specialist workshop. Parking Guidance has been deactivated because you are no longer
following the recommended path.

Park again and, while doing so, observe the display messages
in the multifunction display. Parking Guidance

ing for a few minutes. Check
tyres The tyre pressure in one or more tyres has dropped significantly.
The wheel position is displayed in the multifunction display.

G WARNING
With tyre pressures which are too low, there is a ris kofthe fol-
lowing hazards:
R the tyres may burst, especially as the load and vehicle speed
increase.
R the tyres may wear excessively and/or unevenly, which may
greatly impair tyre traction.
R the driving characteristics, as well as steering and braking, may
be greatly impaired.
There is a risk of an accident.
X Stop the vehicle without making any sudden steering or braking
manoeuvres. Pay attention to the traffic conditions as you do
so.
X Secure the vehicle against rolling away (Y page 183).
X If there is a flat tyre, inspect the tyres (Y page 363).
X Check the tyre pressure (Y page 386).
X If necessary, correct the tyre pressure. 290

Warning
tyre defect The tyre pressure in on
eormore tyres has dropped suddenly. The
wheel position is displayed in the multifunction display.
G WARNING
If you drive with a flat tyre, there is a risk of the following hazards:
R A flat tyre affects the ability to steer or brake the vehicle.
R You could lose control of the vehicle.
R Continued driving with a flat tyre will cause excessive heat build-
up and possibly a fire.
There is a risk of an accident.
X Stop the vehicle without making any sudden steering or braking
manoeuvres. Pay attention to the traffic conditions as you do
so.
X Secure the vehicle against rolling away (Y page 183).
X If there is a flat tyre, inspect the tyres (Y page 363).Rectify
tyre pressure The tyre pressure is too low in at least one of the tyres, or the tyre
pressure difference between the wheels is too great.
X
Check the tyre pressures at the next opportunity
(Y page 386).
X If necessary, correct the tyre pressure.
X Restart the tyre pressure monitor (Y page 387).Wheel sensor(s)
missing There is no signal from the tyre pressure sensor of one or several
wheels. The pressure of the affected tyre is not displayed in the
multifunction display.
X
Have the faulty tyre pressure sensor replaced at a qualified spe-
cialist workshop. Tyre press. monitor
currently unavail‐
able Due to a source of radio interference, no signals can be received
from the wheel sensors. The tyre pressure monitor is temporarily
malfunctioning.

The tyre pressure monitor restarts automatically as soon as the
