Activating
Press air recirculation switch,

The indicator lamp on the air recircula-
tion switch, comes on.Deactivating

tion switch, goes out.
iThe air recirculation mode activates au-
tomatically at high outside tempera-
tures.
A quantity of outside air is added after
approximately 30 minutes.iIf you press the air recirculation
switch, and keep it pressed, the
side windows will close.

Never operate the side windows if there is
the possibility of anyone being harmed by
the closing procedure.
In the event that the closing procedure caus-
es potential danger, the closing of the door
windows can be immediately halted by re-
leasing the, button or by pressing the
respective power window switch.
The closing of the rear side windows can be
immediately halted by releasing the
,button.
iThe air recirculation mode deactivates
automatically:

after 30 minutes if the outside tem-
perature is above approximately
41°F (5°C)

The windows are opened and closed eletri-
cally. Switches for operating the driver and
passenger door windows are located on
the driver's door. A switch for operating
the passenger door window is located on
the passenger door.
The door windows can also be operated us-
ing the retractable hardtop switch
(page 234). The rear side windows can
only be operated using the retractable
hardtop switch (
page 234) or the
SmartKey* (
page 235).

When closing the windows, make sure there
is no danger of anyone being harmed by the
closing procedure.
The closing of the door windows can be im-
mediately halted by releasing the switch or,
if the switch was pressed past the resis-
tance point and released, by pressing the re-
spective switch.
The door windows are equipped with the ex-
press-close and automatic reversal func-
tion. If a door window encounters an
obstruction that blocks its path in a circum-
stance where you pressed the switch past
the resistance point and released it to close
the window, the automatic reversal function
will stop the window and open it slightly.
If a door window encounters an obstruction
that blocks its path in a circumstance where
you are closing the window by pressing and
holding the switch, by pressing and holding
button‹ on the SmartKey*, by pushing
and holding the retractable hardtop switch,
or by pressing and holding the
,
button
on the climate control panel or automatic
climate control panel*, the automatic rever-
sal function will not operate.
When leaving the vehicle, always remove the
SmartKey from the starter switch, take it
with you, and lock the vehicle. Do not leave
children unattended in the vehicle, or with
access to an unlocked vehicle. Unsuper-
vised use of vehicle equipment can cause an
accident and/or serious personal injury.

Press and hold switch1or2 at the
symbolk to the resistance point.
The corresponding window will move
downwards until you release the
switch.
Closing the door windows

Press and hold switch1or2 at the
symbolj to the resistance point.
The corresponding window will move
upwards until you release the switch.Fully opening the door windows
(Express-open)

Press switch1or2 at the
symbolk past the resistance point
and release.
The corresponding window opens
completely.
Fully closing the door windows
(Express-close)

Press switch1or2 at the
symbolj past the resistance point
and release.
The corresponding window closes
completely.
iYou can also open or close the win-
dows using the SmartKey* (summer
opening/convenience closing feature)
(page 235) or the retractable hard-
top switch (
page 234).
You can close and reopen the windows
using the air recirculation switch,
in the control panel of the climate con-
trol (
page 176) or the automatic cli-
mate control* (
page 186).

If you press and hold the switch when clos-
ing the window, and upward movement of
the window is blocked by some obstruction
including but not limited to arms, hands, fin-
gers, etc., the automatic reversal will not op-
erate.

Driver’s door only:
If the switch is pressed again past the resis-
tance point and released within
five seconds, the automatic reversal will not
operate.

Briefly press the respective switch at

All windows can be opened or closed with
the retractable hardtop switch.
The retractable hardtop switch is located
on the lower part of the center console.

!If the upward movement of the window
is blocked during the closing proce-
dure, the window will stop and open
slightly.
Remove the obstruction, press the re-
spective switch at the symbolj
again past the resistance point and re-
lease.
If the window still does not close when
there is no obstruction, press and hold
the respective switch at the
symbolj. The window will then
close without the obstruction sensor
function.

ger, the procedure can be immediately halt-
ed by releasing the retractable hardtop
switch.
If a door window encounters an obstruction

Opening 
Push the retractable hardtop switch in
quick succession twice in direction of
arrow1.

Keep the retractable hardtop switch
pushed the second time until all win-
dows are closed.
The windows in the driver’s and pas-
senger door will close first, followed by
the rear side windows.Opening and closing the windows with
the SmartKey*
The retractable hardtop (
page 237) will
also be opened or closed when the power
windows are operated with the SmartKey.
iYou can operate the rear side windows
only by using the retractable hardtop
switch.
iIf the retractable hardtop is open, only
the windows in the driver’s and passen-
ger door will close. The rear side win-
dows remain open.

Never operate the windows or retractable
hardtop if there is the possibility of anyone
being harmed by the opening or closing pro-
cedure.
In case the procedure causes potential dan-
ger, the procedure can be immediately halt-
ed by releasing the button on the SmartKey.
To reverse direction of movement,

Synchronizing power windows
The power windows must be synchronized

after the battery has been disconnect-
ed.


if the power windows cannot be fully
opened (Express-open) or closed
(Express-close).
Each power window must be synchronized.

Close all doors.

Switch on the ignition (
page 35).

Press and hold both switches1
and2 at the symbolj until the
windows are completely closed.

Hold on to switches1and2 for ap-
proximately one second.
The power windows are synchronized.
Warning!

If the retractable hardtop does not com-
pletely open or close, a warning sounds. In
the multifunction display you will see
K

and the message
Retractable roof
being lowered. After about 15 seconds
the roof hydraulics lose pressure.
Properly lock the retractable hardtop
(
page 240) before continuing to drive.

The switch for opening/closing the retract-
able hardtop is on the lower part of the

retractable hardtop is completely low-
ered into the trunk.

Closing

Push and hold the retractable hardtop
switch in direction of arrow2 until the
retractable hardtop is completely
closed and locked.
The message

closed
briefly appears in the multifunc-
tion display.
iBefore operating the retractable hard-
top via the retractable hardtop switch,
do the following first:

Engage the parking brake
(page 56).


Close the luggage cover.


Close the trunk lid.


Switch on ignition (
page 35).
