NOTElOn vehicles with the automatic air condi-
tioning, when the mode selection dial or the
blower speed selection dial is set to the “AUTO” position again after manual opera-tion, the air selection dial will also be auto- matically controlled.
l On vehicles with the automatic air condi-
tioning, when the engine coolant tempera-
ture rises to a certain level, the air selection is automatically switched to the recirculation
position and the indication lamp (A) comes on. At this time, the system will not switch
to the outside position even if the air selec-
tion switch is pushed.Customizing the air selection

Functions can be changed as desired, as sta-
ted below.
l Enable automatic air control
• Heater/Manual air conditioning: When the system operates, the air se-
lection switch will be automatically controlled.
• Automatic air conditioning: When the mode selection dial or
blower speed selection dial is turned
to the “AUTO” position, the air selec-
tion switch is also controlled automat- ically.
l Disable automatic air control
• Heater/Manual air conditioning:
Even when the system operates, theair selection switch will not be auto-
matically controlled.
• Automatic air conditioning: Even when the mode selection dial orblower speed selection dial is turned
to the “AUTO” position, the air selec-
tion switch is not controlled automati- cally.
l Setting change method
Hold down the air selection switch for about 10 seconds or more.
When the setting is changed, a sound is
emitted and the indication lamp flashes. • When the setting is changed from ena-
ble to disable 3 sounds are emitted and
the indication lamp flashes 3 times.
• When the setting is changed from dis-
able to enable 2 sounds are emitted and the indication lamp flashes 3times.NOTEl The factory setting is “Enable automatic air
control.”
l When the mode selection dial is turned to
“
”, in order to prevent misting of the
windows the ventilator automatically switches to outside air even if “Disable auto-matic air control” is set.

Push the switch to turn the air conditioning
on, indication lamp (A) will come on.
There is a sound each time the switch is pressed.
Manual air conditioningAutomatic air conditioning
Push the switch again to switch it off.
CAUTIONl When using the air conditioning, the idling
speed may slightly increase as the air condi-
tioning compressor is switched on/off auto- matically. While the vehicle with an A/T or
CVT is stationary, fully depress the brake pedal to prevent the vehicle from creeping.

NOTElIf a problem is detected in the air condition-
ing system, the air conditioning operation in- dication lamp (A) blinks. Press the air condi-
tioning switch once to turn it off, then once more to turn it back on. If the air condition-
ing operation indication lamp does not blink for a while, there is nothing wrong. If it
starts to blink again, we recommend you to have it checked.
l Sometimes, for example after using a high-
pressure car wash, the condenser can get
wet, and the operation indication lamp (A) blinks temporarily. In this case there is noth-ing wrong. Wait a while, press the air condi-
tioning switch once to turn the system off,
then once more to turn it back on. Once the water evaporates, the blinking will stop.Customizing the air condition-

If the mode selection dial or blower
speed selection dial is turned to the “AUTO” position, or the temperature
control dial is set to the minimum tem-
perature, the air conditioning switch is controlled automatically.
l Disable automatic air conditioning con-
trol:
The air conditioning switch is not con-
trolled automatically as long as the air
conditioning switch is not operated.
l Setting change method
Hold down the air conditioning switch for about 10 seconds or more.
When the setting is changed, a sound is
emitted and the indication lamp flashes. • When the setting is changed from ena-
ble to disable 3 sounds are emitted and
the indication lamp flashes 3 times.
• When the setting is changed from dis-
able to enable 2 sounds are emitted and the indication lamp flashes 3times.NOTEl The factory setting is “Enable automatic air

l When you turn the mode selection dial to

”, in order to prevent misting of the

Set the mode selection dial to the “” posi-
tion and set the air selection switch (A) to the outside position.
Turn the temperature control dial clockwise
or anticlockwise to the desired temperature.
Select the desired blower speed.
NOTEl For quick heating, set the blower speed se-
lection dial to the position shown in the il-
lustration.

Cooling (Manual air condition-ing)

1. Set the mode selection dial to the “”
position.
2. Set the air selection switch (A) to the outside position.
3. Push the air conditioning switch (B).
4. Change the temperature by turning the control dial clockwise or anticlockwise.
5. Select the desired blower speed.
CAUTIONl If the outside air is dusty or otherwise conta-
minated, or if high cooling performance is
desired, set air selection switch to the recir- culation position and the temperature control
dial all the way to the left.
Switch to the outside position periodically to increase ventilation so that the windows donot become fogged up.NOTEl When the air conditioning operates with the
selection switch in the outside position, the
system automatically determines whether to continue using outside air or to perform re-
circulation. If the outside air temperature is high, the system selects recirculation to ach- ieve rapid cooling and causes the indication
lamp in the switch to illuminate. Press the
selection switch to return to outside air intro- duction.Combination of unheated air

Select the mode selection dial to the position shown in the illustration and set the air selec- tion switch (A) to the outside position.
The air flow will be directed to the leg area
and the upper part of the passenger compart-
ment. Select the desired blower speed.
Warm air flows to the leg area and unheated or slightly warm air (depending upon temper-
ature setting) flows to the upper part of the
passenger compartment.

Operating the lid of the vanity mirror will au-tomatically turn on the mirror lamp (A).CAUTIONl If the lid of vanity mirror with lamp is kept
open for prolonged periods of time, the vehi-
cle’s battery will be discharged.Type 2
A vanity mirror is fitted to the back of the
sun visor.
Card holder
Cards can be slipped into the holder (B) on the sun visor.
Ashtray*

are placed in the ashtray.
l Don’t put papers and other things that burn
into your ashtrays. If you do, cigarettes or
other smoking materials could set them on fire, causing damage.
l Always close the ashtray. If left open, other
cigarette butts in the ashtray may be rekin-
dled.

When using more than one socket at the same time, make sure that the electrical ac-
cessories are 12 V accessories and that the total power consumption does not exceed
120 W.
l Long use of the electric appliance without
running the engine may run down the bat-
tery.
l When the accessory socket is not in use, be
sure to close the lid or install the cap, be-
cause the socket might become clogged by foreign material and be short-circuited.
To use a plug-in type accessory, open the lid
or remove the cap, and insert the plug in the accessory socket.
NOTEl Accessory sockets in 2 locations can be used
at the same time.The accessory socket can be used while the
ignition switch or the operation mode is in

Room lamp
1- (DOOR) The lamp illuminates when a door or the
tailgate is opened. It goes off about 15
seconds after the door or tailgate is
closed.
However, the lamp goes off immediately in the following cases: •When the ignition switch is turned
to the “ON” position or the opera-
tion mode is put in ON.
• When the central door lock function
is used to lock the vehicle.
• When the remote control switch of
the keyless entry system or the key-
less operation system is used to lock
the vehicle.
• If the vehicle is equipped with the
keyless operation system, when the keyless operation function is used tolock the vehicle.NOTEl When the key was used to start the engine, if
the key is removed while the doors and tail- gate are closed, the lamp is illuminated and after about 15 seconds it goes off.
l When the keyless operation function was
used to start the engine, if the operation mode is put in OFF while the doors and tail-
gate are closed, the lamp illuminates and af- ter about 15 seconds it goes off.
l The time until the lamp goes off can be ad-
justed. For details, please consult a

The brightness of the sunshade illumination
can be adjusted to 3 different levels when the ignition switch or the operation mode is in
ON or ACC.
Each time you press the switch, the bright-
ness switches in sequence from high → mid-
dle → low → off → high.
NOTEl The brightness can be adjusted even when
the ignition switch is in the “LOCK” posi-
tion or the operation mode is in OFF, provi- ded that the sunshade illumination is turned
on.

Sunshade illumination*

The sunshade illumination turns on when the
ignition switch or the operation mode is in
ON or ACC.
NOTEl The sunshade illumination does not turn on
if the sunshade illumination dimming con-
trol switch is off.
Refer to “Sunshade illumination dimming
control switch” on page 7-76.
When the sunshade illumination is turned on,
it will go off about 15 seconds after the fol-
lowing operation is performed.
l When the key was used to start the en-
gine, the key is removed while the doors
and tailgate are closed.
l For vehicles equipped with the keyless
operation system, the operation mode is
put in OFF while the engine is running and the doors and the tailgate are closed.NOTEl The time until the sunshade illumination
goes off can be adjusted. If it is adjusted, thetime until the room & map lamps go off is also adjusted automatically at the same time.

The sunshade illumination also turns on
when a door or the tailgate is opened, and
goes off 15 seconds after the door or the tail-
gate is closed, even when the engine switch is
in the “LOCK” position or the operation mode is in OFF.
However, the sunshade illumination immedi- ately goes off in the following cases:
l When the central door lock function is
used to lock the vehicle.
l When the remote control switch of the
keyless entry system or the keyless oper- ation system is used to lock the vehicle.
l If the vehicle is equipped with the key-
less operation system, when the keyless operation function is used to lock the ve-hicle.
NOTEl The sunshade illumination does not turn on
if the sunshade illumination dimming con-
trol switch is off.
l The time until the sunshade illumination
goes off can be adjusted. If it is adjusted, thetime until the room & map lamps go off is also adjusted automatically at the same time.

drink, and spectacles in the cabin when park-ing the vehicle in hot sunshine. The cabin will become extremely hot, so lighters and
other flammable items may catch fire and unopened drink cans (including soft drink or
beer cans) may rupture. Also, spectacles with plastic lenses or materials could deform
or crack.
l Keep the lids of storage spaces closed while
driving the vehicle. A lid or the contents of a
storage space could otherwise cause injuries.NOTEl When leaving your vehicle, do not leave val-
uables in the storage spaces.

To use the warming and cooling
function*
The glove box can be used to keep its con- tents (e.g. drink bottles) warm or cool with
the warm or cold air from the air condition- ing. 1. Turn the dial in the glove box to the

Turn the dial to the “

not using the warming and cooling func- tion.
2. Turn the air conditioning temperature
control dial (A) to the desired tempera- ture.

If the vehicle breaks down on the road, move it to the shoulder and turn on the hazard
warning flashers and set up a warning trian- gle, flashing lamp, etc.
Refer to “Hazard warning flasher switch” on
page 5-55.
If the engine stops/fails
Vehicle operation and control are affected if
the engine stops.
Before moving the vehicle to a safe area, be
aware of the following:
l The brake booster becomes inoperative
and the pedal effort will increase. Press down the brake pedal harder than usual.
l Since the power steering system is no
longer operative, the steering wheel feels
heavy when turning it.
Emergency starting

If the engine cannot be started because thebattery is weak or dead, the battery from an-other vehicle can be used with jumper cables to start the engine.
WARNINGl To start the engine using jumper cables
connected to another vehicle, perform the
correct procedures according to the in- struction below. Incorrect procedures could result in a fire or explosion or dam-
age to the vehicles.CAUTIONl Do not attempt to start the engine by pulling
or pushing the vehicle.
It could damage your vehicle.
l Always wear protective eye goggles when
working near the battery.
l Keep the battery out of the reach of children.

Get the vehicles close enough so the
jumper cables can reach, but be sure the vehicles aren’t touching each other.
CAUTIONl Check the other vehicle. It must have a 12-
volt battery.
If the other system isn’t 12-volt, shorting can
damage both vehicles.
2. Turn off all lamps, heater and other elec-
trical loads.
3. Set the parking brake firmly on each ve-
hicle. Put an A/T, CVT in “P” (PARK)
or a M/T in “N” (Neutral).
4. Turn the ignition switch to the “LOCK”
position or put the operation mode in OFF.WARNINGl Perform step 4 on both vehicles before-
hand.
Make sure that the cables or your clothes cannot be caught by the fan or drive belt.
Personal injury could result.
5. Make sure battery electrolyte is at the
proper level.
Refer to “Battery” on page 10-09.
WARNINGl If electrolyte fluid is not visible, or ap-
pears to be frozen, Do Not Attempt Jump
Starting!
A battery might rupture or explode if the temperature is below the freezing point orif it is not filled to the proper level.
6. Connect one end of one jumper cable to
the positive (+) terminal of the dis-charged battery (A), and the other end to
the positive (+) terminal of the booster
battery (B).
