This light comes on in the event of a malfunc- tion in the charging system or when the igni-tion switch is turned to the “ON” position (engine off) or the operation mode is put in ON. When the engine is started, the lightshould go out. Check to make sure that the light has gone out before driving.

This light comes on when the engine oil pres-sure is below normal. If the light stays on while driving, stop the engine as soon as pos-sible. Do not run the engine until the cause of the low oil pressure is corrected.

This light comes on in red if the coolant tem- perature becomes excessively high.

This light comes on when any door is open ornot completely closed. When the vehicle is moving at more than 5 mph (8 km/h) and any door is open or ajar, atone will sound 4 times to inform the driver that any door is not properly shut.

This warning light does not show the amount of oil in the crankcase. This can only be determined by checking the oil level with the dipstick with the engine turned off.
High coolant temperature warning light - red
CAUTION If the light comes on

overheating. Continue

the engine fail. Immedi

Check all the tires for heavy tread wear or uneven wear patterns.
Look for stones, nails,
glass, or other objects
stuck in the tread. Look
for any tread cuts or sidewall cracks. Check the wheel nuts for tightness, and the tires (including spare tire) for proper pressure.Replace your tires before they are heavily worn out. As your vehicle is equi
pped with a tire pres-
sure monitoring system, there is a risk of damage to the tire inflation pressure sensorswhen the tire is replaced on the rim. Tire replacement should, onl

 Check the battery. At the same time, check the terminals and wiring. During extremely cold weather, the battery willnot be as strong. Al
so, the battery power
level may drop because more power is used for cold starting and driving.Before driving the vehicle, check to see if the engine runs at the proper speed and if the headlights are as bright as normally. Charge or replace the battery if necessary. During extreme cold weather, it is possi-ble that a very low battery could freeze.  Warm the engine sufficiently. After start- ing the engine, allow a short warm-uptime to distribute oil to all cylinders. Then drive your vehicle slowly.  Stay at low speeds at first so that the man- ual transaxle oil or the automatic transaxle fluid has time to spread to all the lubrica- tion points.

7. Install the wheel nuts with their tapered ends facing inward, then tighten by handuntil the wheel is no longer loose. 8. Lower the vehicle slowly until the tire touches the ground, by rotating the wheel nut wrench counterclockwise.
9. Tighten the nuts in the order shown in the illustration until each
nut has been tight-
ened to the torque listed here. 65 to 80 ft-lb (88 to 108 N•m)
10. Lower the jack all the way and remove it.
11. Check the tire inflation pressure. The rec-
ommended tire pressure for your vehicleis listed on the tire
and loading informa-
tion placard attached to the driver’s door sill as shown in the illustration. Refer to“Tire inflation pressures” on page 9-16.
CAUTION Never apply oil to either the wheel bolts or the nuts or they will tighten too much.

you can over-tighten the wheel nuts and damage the wheel, wheel nuts and hub bolts.

change intervals. Before starting the engine,check the engine oil level. Refill if necessary. To check the oil level, remove the dipstick, wipe it off, and gently
reinsert it all the way.
Slowly pull the dipsti
ck straight out and
check the oil level by checking the upper sur- face of the dipstick. Th
e oil level must not go
above the line on the dipstick. If the level does not reach the line which shows the minimum amo
unt of oil required,
remove the oil filler cap on the engine valve cover, and fill to within the “Good” range.
To close
CAUTION Be careful not to trap your hands or fingers when closing the engine hood. Make sure the engine hood is firmly closed before driving.If you drive without the engine hood com- pletely closed, it c
ould open up while driv-
ing.
NOTE
 If this does not clos
e the engine hood prop-
erly, drop it again from a slightly higherposition.  Do not push down strongly on the engine hood. Depending on how strongly or whereyou push down, you could create a dent in the vehicle body.

next oil change to maintain optimum fuel economy and cold weather starting. The oil filter should be replaced at the time or mileage specified in the “WARRANTY ANDMAINTENANCE MANUAL”. Only use high quality

this vehicle. The manufacturer’s specifica-tions for Mitsubishi Mo
tors Genuine oil fil-
ters require that the filter can withstand a pressure of 256 psi (1.8 MPa). A MitsubishiMotors Genuine oil filter

The engine coolant reservoir (A) lets youquickly see when you need to add coolant. When the engine is cold
, the level of the cool-
ant in the reservoir should be between the “F”(FULL) and “L” (LOW) marks. The radiator usually stays full so there is no reason to remove the radiator cap (B) except when youcheck the coolant freeze point or replace the antifreeze coolant.

The radiator cap must be
sealed tight to pre-
vent losing coolant, which may result in engine damage. Only use a Mitsubishi Motors Genuine Parts radiator cap, or anapproved equivalent.
 Do not overfill the reservoir.  Your vehicle uses a special radiator cap that stays sealed and lets the coolant flow from the reservoir back to the radiatorwhen the engine cools down. If you need to change the cap, use the exact same kind.
 Check the coolant freeze point in the radi- ator with the proper gauge, and only whenit is safe. If you add antifreeze, the con- tents of the reservoi
r must be protected
against freezing. Keep the front of the radiator and con- denser clean.  If the engine coolan

is warmed-up, take
