The seat belt webbing
may be cleaned with
mild soap or detergent solution. Do not use anorganic solvent. Allow the belts to dry in the shade. Do not allow them to retract until com- pletely dry. Do not attempt to bleach or re-dye the belts. The color may rub off and the webbing strength may be affected.
Regularly check your seat belt buckles and their release mechanisms for positive engage-ment and release of the latch plate. Check the retractors for automatic locking when in the Automatic Locking Retractor function. The entire seat belt assembly should be replaced if the webbing shows any obvious cuts, tears, increase in thickness in any sec- tion of the webbing from broken fibers, orsevere fading from sunl
ight. All of these con-
ditions indicate a we
akening of the belt,
which may adversely affect seat belt perfor- mance in an accident.

Restraint System (SRS), which includes air- bags for the driver and passengers.
The SRS front airbags are designed to supple- ment the primary protection of the driver andfront passenger seat
belt systems by provid-
ing those occupants wi
th protection against
head and chest injuries
in certain moderate to
severe frontal collisions. The SRS front air- bags, together with sens
ors at the front of the
vehicle and sensors attached to the frontseats, form an advanced airbag system. The SRS side airbags and the curtain airbags are also designed to supplement the seat belts. The SRS side airbags provide the driver and front passenger with protection against chest injuries by deploying the bag on the sideimpacted in moderate
to severe side impact
collisions. The SRS curtain airbags provide the driver and the passengers on the front seatand the second row outboard seats with pro- tection against head injuries by deploying the curtain airbag on the si
de impacted in moder-
ate to severe side imp
act collisions and by
deploying both curtain
airbags when a roll-
over is detected. The curtain airbags are alsodesigned to help reduce the risk of complete and partial ejection fro
m the vehicle through

ponents or wiring could result in an acci- dental airbag deployment or could make the SRS inoperable. Ei

tions could result in serious injury or death. Do not modify your steering wheel or any other SRS component or related vehicle part. For example, replacement of thesteering wheel, or modifications to the front bumper or body structure can adversely affect SR

Your vehicle has been
designed primarily for
use on pavement. But its unique 4 -wheel
drive system allows
you to occasionally travel on unpaved roads, to campgrounds, picnic
sites, and similar
locations.Not only does this ensure better handling on dry, paved roads but al
so permits better trac-
tion when driving on slippery, wet or snow- covered roads and when moving out of mud.But it is not suitable for heavy off road use or towing in rough conditions. It is particularly im
portant to note that 4-
wheel drive may not gi
ve sufficient hill
climbing ability and e
ngine braking on steep
slopes. You should try to avoid driving onsteep slopes. Also, you must exercise caution when driving on sand and mud and when driving through water because sufficie
nt traction may not be
available in certain circumstances.Please avoid driving the vehicle through areas where the tires may get stuck in deep sand or mud.
When the ECO mode switch is ON
NOTE
 If the drive mode is switched in any mode after the drive mode is switched in “AWCECO”, the drive mode will not be changed even if the ECO mode switch is switched OFF.

Your vehicle may not provide sufficient hill climbing ability and engine braking on steep slope. Avoid driving on steep slopes even though the vehicle is an 4-wheel drive vehi-cle.

Check the depth of the water and the terrain before attempting to drive through it. Driveslowly to avoid creating excessive water splashing.

After operating the vehicle in rough road con- ditions, be sure to perform the followinginspection and maintenance procedures:
 Check that the vehicle has not been dam- aged by rocks, gravel, etc. Carefully wash the
vehicle with water.

depressing the brake pedal in order to dryout the brakes. If the brakes still do not function properly, contact an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facil-ity of your choice as soon as possible to have the brakes checked.  Remove the insects, dr
ied grass, etc. clog-
ging the radiator core.  After driving through water, check the engine, transaxle and
differential oil. If
the oil or grease is milky or cloudy because of water cont
amination, it must
be replaced with new oil.  Check the inside of the vehicle. If water entry is found, dry the carpet etc. Inspect the headlights. If water is in the headlight housing, have it drained at an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or arepair facility of your choice.
NOTE
 Avoid sudden braking,
sudden acceleration
and sharp turning; such operations couldresult in the vehicle becoming stuck.  If the vehicle become
s stuck in sandy or
muddy roads, it can often be moved with arocking motion. Move the selector lever alternately between the “D” (DRIVE) and “R” (REVERSE) positi
ons while pressing
lightly on the ac
celerator pedal.
 Driving on rough road can cause rust on the vehicle; wash the vehi
cle thoroughly as soon
as possible after such use.
Climbing/descending sharp grades Driving through water
CAUTION Never drive through water that is deep enough to cover wheel hubs, axles or exhaust pipe. Do not change th
e selector lever posi-
tion while driving through water. Frequent driving through water can adversely affect the life
span of the vehicle;
consult an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facili
ty of your choice and
take the necessary measures to prepare,inspect, and repair the vehicle. After driving through water, apply the brakes to be sure they are
functioning properly. If
the brakes are wet a
nd not functioning prop-
erly, dry them out by driving slowly whilelightly depressing the brake pedal. Inspect each part of the vehicle carefully.

Each tire, including the spare (if provided), should be checked monthly when cold and inflated to the inflation pressure recom-mended by the vehicle manufacturer on the vehicle placard or tire
inflation pressure label.
(If your vehicle has tires of a different sizethan the size indicated on the vehicle placard or tire inflation pressure label, you should determine the proper ti
re inflation pressure
for those tires.) As an added safety feat
ure, your vehicle has
been equipped with a tire pressure monitoringsystem (TPMS) that illuminates a low tire pressure telltale when
one or more of your
tires is significantly under-inflated.Accordingly, when the low tire pressure tell- tale illuminates, you
should stop and check
your tires as soon as possible, and inflatethem to the proper pressure. Driving on a sig- nificantly under-inflated
tire causes the tire to
overheat and can lead
to tire failure.
Under-inflation also reduces fuel efficiency and tire tread life, and may affect the vehi-cle’s handling and stoppi
ng ability. Please
note that the TPMS is
not a substitute for
proper tire maintenance, and it is the driver’sresponsibility to
maintain corre
ct tire pres-
sure, even if under-infl
ation has not reached
the level to trigger illumination of the TPMSlow tire pressure telltale. Your vehicle has also
been equipped with a
TPMS malfunction indica
tor to indicate when
the system is not operating properly. The TPMS malfunction indicator is combined with the low tire pressure telltale.When the system detects a malfunction, the telltale will flash for approximately one min- ute and then remain c
ontinuously illuminated.
This sequence will c
ontinue upon subsequent
vehicle start-ups as long as the malfunction exists.When the malfunction indicator is illumi- nated, the system may not
be able to detect or
signal low tire pr
essure as intended.
TPMS malfunctions ma
y occur for a variety
of reasons, including the installation of replacement or alternate tires or wheels on thevehicle that prevent the TPMS from function- ing properly. Always
check the TPMS mal-
function telltale after
replacing one or more
tires or wheels on your vehicle to ensure that the replacement or alternate tires and wheels
CAUTION If the tire pressure monitoring system warn- ing light does not illumi
nate when the igni-
tion switch is turned to the “ON” position orthe operation mode is put in ON, it means that the tire pressure monitoring system is not working properly. Have the systeminspected by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer. In such situations, a malfunctioning of thesystem may be preventing the monitoring of the tire pressure. Avoid sudden braking, sharp turning and high-speed driving. If a malfunction is detected in the tire pres- sure monitoring system, the tire pressuremonitoring system warning light will blink for approximately 1 mi
nute and then remain
continuously illuminate
d. The warning light
will issue further warnings each time the engine is restarted as
long as the malfunction
exists.Check to see whether the warning light goes off after few minutes driving. If it then goes off during driving, there is noproblem. However, if the warning light does not go off, or if it blinks again when the engine isrestarted, have the
vehicle inspected by an
authorized Mitsubish
i Motors dealer.
In such situations, a malfunctioning of thesystem may be preventing the monitoring of the tire pressure. For safety reasons, when the warning light appears while driving,avoid sudden braking, sharp turning and high-speed driving.

To return the display to 0, hold down the multi information display switch for about 2 seconds or more. Only the currently dis- played value will be reset. Example If trip odometer is
displayed, only trip
odometer wi

 Both trip odometers and can count up to 9999.9 m
iles/kilometers.
When a trip odometer goes past 9999.9 miles/kilometers, it returns to 0.0 miles/ kilometers. When disconnecting th
e battery terminal,
the memories of trip odometer displays
and are cleared, and their displays
return to “0.0 miles/kilometers”.
