back inyour seatwithboth feetonthe floor, your
chances ofbeing injured orkilled inan accident
and/or theseverity ofinjury maybegreatly
reduced. NISSANstronglyencourages youand
all ofyour passengers tobuckle upevery time
you drive, evenifyour seating position includes a
supplemental airbag.
Most U.S.states andCanadian provinces
or territories specifythatseat belts be
worn atall times whenavehicle isbeing
driven.

A child restraint maybesecured inthe vehicle
by using either theLATCH (Lower Anchors and
T ethers forCHildren) systemorwith thevehicle
seat belt. SeeªChild restraintsº (P.1-18) for
more information.
NISSAN recommends thatallpre-teens
and children berestrained inthe rear seat.
Studies showthatchildren aresafer when
properly restrained inthe rear seat than in
the front seat.
This isespecially importantbecauseyour
vehicle hasasupplemental restraintsys-
tem (Airbag system) forthe front passen-
ger. See ªSupplemental restraintsystemº
(P .1-38) .

Infants uptoatleast 1year oldshould beplaced
in arear-facing childrestraint. NISSANrecom-
mends thatinfants beplaced inchild restraints
that comply withFederal MotorVehicle Safety
Standards orCanadian MotorVehicle Safety
Standards. You should choose achild restraint
that fitsyour vehicle andalways followthe
manufacturer's instructionsforinstallation and
use.
SMALL CHILDREN

Children thatareover 1year oldand weigh at
least 20lbs (9kg) should remaininarear-facing
child restraint aslong aspossible uptothe
height orweight limitofthe child restraint.
Children whooutgrow theheight orweight limit
of the rear-facing childrestraint andareatleast
1 year oldshould besecured inaforward-facing
child restraint withaharness. Refertothe
manufacturer's instructionsforminimum and
maximum weightandheight recommendations.
NISSAN recommends thatsmall children be
placed inchild restraints thatcomply with
Federal MotorVehicle Safety Standards or
Canadian MotorVehicle Safety Standards. You
should choose achild restraint thatfitsyour
vehicle andalways followthemanufacturer's
instructions forinstallation anduse.
LARGER CHILDREN

Children shouldremaininaforward-facing child
restraint withaharness untilthey reach the
maximum heightorweight limitallowed bythe
child restraint manufacturer.
Once achild outgrows theheight orweight limit
of the harness-equipped forward-facingchild
restraint, NISSANrecommends thatthechild be
placed inacommercially availableboosterseat
to obtain proper seatbeltfit.For aseat belttofit
properly ,the booster seatshould raisethechild so
that theshoulder beltisproperly positioned
across thechest andthetop, middle portion of
the shoulder. Theshoulder beltshould notcross
the neck orface andshould notfalloffthe
shoulder. Thelapbelt should liesnugly across
the lower hipsorupper thighs, nottheabdomen.
A booster seatcanonly beused inseating
positions thathave athree-point typeseatbelt.
The booster seatshould fitthe vehicle seatand
have alabel certifying thatitcomplies with
Federal MotorVehicle Safety Standards or
Canadian MotorVehicle Safety Standards.
Once thechild hasgrown sothe shoulder belt
is no longer onornear theface andneck, and
the lapbelt canbepositioned properlyacross
the lower hipsorupper thighs, usetheseat belt
without thebooster seat.
WARNING
Never letachild stand orkneel onany
seat anddonot allow achild inthe
cargo area.Thechild could beseriously
injured orkilled inasudden stopor
collision.

front seat.Aninflating airbag

before installing achild restraint.
Do not use thelower anchors ifthe combined
weight ofthe child andthechild restraint
exceeds 65lbs (29.5 kg).If the combined
weight ofthe child andthechild restraint is
greater than65lbs (29.5 kg),use thevehicle's
seat belt(not thelower anchors) toinstall the
child restraint. Besure tofollow thechild
restraint manufacturer's instructionsforinstalla-
tion.

Installing toptether strap

WARNING
Child restraint anchorages arede-
signed towithstand onlythose loads
imposed bycorrectly fittedchildre-
straints. Undernocircumstances are
they tobe used toattach adultseat
belts, orother items orequipment to
the vehicle. Doingsocould damage the
child restraint anchorages. Thechild
restraint willnotbeproperly installed
using thedamaged anchorage, anda
child could beseriously injuredorkilled in
acollision.
The child restraint toptether strapmustbeused
when installing thechild restraint withthe
LA TCH lower anchor attachments.
First, secure thechild restraint withtheLATCH
lower anchors (rearoutboard seatpositions
only) .
1. Remove thehead restraint andstore itin a
secure place.Besure toreinstall thehead
restraint whenthechild restraint isremoved
(rear outboard seatpositions) .

head restraint adjustment, removaland
installation information.
P osition thetop tether strapoverthetop of
the seatback.
2. Secure thetop tether straptothe tether
anchor pointonthe back ofthe seatback
behind thechild restraint.
3. Refer tothe appropriate childrestraint
installation procedurestepsinthis section
before tightening thetether strap.
If you have anyquestions wheninstalling a
top tether strap,consult yourNISSAN
dealer fordetails.
