Handbrake, low brake fluid level and fault inElectronic BrakeForce Distributionsystem warning light
Linked with the central STOP warning light. Indicates either:
- that the handbrake is on or has not been released correctly,
- an excessive drop in the brake fluid level (if the light remains lit even with the handbrakereleased),
- a fault in the Electronic Brake Force Distribution system if lit
simultaneously with the ABS warn-ing light.
Stop immediately.

INSTRUMENTS AND CONTROLS
A permantly lit warning light or one that flashes, with the enginerunning, indicates an operatingfault in the relevant unit. Somewarning lights may be accompa-nied by an audible signal and amessage on the multifunctionscreen. Do not ignore this warning: contact a PEUGEOT dealer as soon as
possible. If the Central STOPwarning light comes on when youare driving, stop immediatelywhere it is safe to do so.
Anti-lock brake system (ABS) warning light This comes on for 3 seconds
each time the ignition is switched on. If the warning light remains on or comes on above 7 mph (12 km/h),
this indicates an ABS malfunction.
However, the vehicle retains con- ventional servo-assisted braking. Lighting of this warning light is accompanied by an audible signaland the message "ABS fault"on
the multifunction display.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.
Engine oil pressure warning light Linked with the central
STOP warning light.
Stop immediately. This warning light indicates either:
- insufficient oil pressure,
- lack of oil in the lubrication circuit. Top up the oil level.
- oil temperature which is too high. Switching on of the warning light is accompanied by an audible signal.
To lower the oil temperature, reduce your speed.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.
Coolant temperature and low level warninglight
Linked with the central STOP warn- ing light.
Stop immediately.Allow the engine to cool before top- ping up. The cooling system is pressurised. In the event of breakdown and to prevent the risk of scalding , turn
the cap twice to allow the pressureto drop. Once the pressure has dropped, remove the cap and top up the level.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.
Central STOP warning light Linked with the warn-
ing light for the "engine oil pressure", the "coolant temperature and lowlevel gauge", the "handbrake", the"brake fluid low level" and ''electro-nic braking system fault''. Stop immediately if the light is flashing with the engine running.

Operating programmes
You have a choice of three operating programmes:
- Autoadaptive (normal).
- Sport.
- Snow.One press on button
Aor Bwill
select Sport or Snow respectively. The selection is displayed on theinstrument panel. Pressing the but-ton a second time will return to theautoadaptive (normal) programme. Autoadaptive programme (normal) Gear changes are carried out on the basis of various parameters, suchas:
- driving style,
- road characteristics,
- vehicle load. The gearbox selects the most suit- able programme from those in thememory for the current driving con-ditions. Sport programme The Sport programme automatically favours more dynamic driving. Snow Programme In position
D, the Snow programme
provides smooth driving suited to slippery roads in order to improve
traction and stability. Starting is in2nd gear and changing down is at
low engine speeds. Special operating features
- During prolonged braking, the gearbox changes down automati-
cally, so as to provide efficientengine braking.
- If you take your foot off the accel- erator suddenly (when you aretaken by surprise, for example),the gearbox will not change up,
so as to improve safety.
- When the engine is cold, the gearbox automatically selects aspecial programme that enablesthe engine to reach its ideal tem-perature more quickly in order todecrease pollution.
Kickdown For immediate maximum accelera-
tion without touching the gear lever, press the accelerator pedal down as
far as it will go. The gearbox willchange down automatically or stayin the gear selected, up to maximumengine speed.Any disruption of the system is signalled by the simultane-ous flashing of the Sport andSnow lights on the instrument
panel. In such a case, the gearbox
will operate in downgrade mode. Youmay feel a substantial knock whenreverse is selected from Pto R or N
to R(without any risk of damage to
the gearbox). Do not exceed 60 mph (100km/h).Contact a PEUGEOT dealer without
delay. When the engine is idling with the car
in gear, the car will move even with-out you accelerating. Do not accelerate while a gear is being selected, when the vehicle is
stationary.
When stationary, have your foot on the brake pedal when selecting a
gear. Do not accelerate in gear with the brakes on. If work needs to be done with the engine running, apply the handbrakeand select position P.
Do not change down to brake on slip-pery roads. Never select position Nwhen the
vehicle is moving.Never engage Por Runless the vehi-
cle is stationary.Do not leave children inside the vehi- cle unsupervised when the engine isrunning.

FRONT AIR BAGS
These are folded in the centre of the steering wheel for the driver and in the
fascia for the front passenger. They are
deployed simultaneously, except incases where the passenger air bag isdisarmed.
Front air bag fault
If this warning light comeson, accompanied by anaudible signal and the mes-sage "Air bag fault" on the
multifunction display, con-
tact a PEUGEOT dealer to have thesystem checked.
AIR BAGS The air bags have been designed to maximise the safety of the occu-pants in the event of serious colli-
sions. They work in conjunctionwith the force-limiting seat belts. The electronic detectors register and analyse any abrupt decelera-tion of the vehicle: if the triggeringthreshold is reached, the air bagsinflate instantly and protect theoccupants of the vehicle. Immediately after the impact, the air bags deflate rapidly so that they donot hinder the visibility of the occu-pants nor their exit if necessary fromthe vehicle. The air bags are not deployed in the case of collisions which are not seri-
ous, for which the seat belt is suffi-cient to ensure maximum protection. The seriousness of a collisiondepends on the nature of the obsta-cle and the speed of the vehicle atthe moment of the collision. Air bags only operate when the ignition is switched on. Note:
the gas escaping from the air
bags can be a minor irritant. Disarming the passenger air bag*
To ensure the safety of your child, it is essential to disarm the pas-senger air bag when you install arear-facing child seat on the frontpassenger seat.
With the ignition switched off, insert the key into the passengerair bag disarming switch 1, turn it
to the "OFF"position, then
remove the key keeping the slotin this position.
The air bag warning light onthe instrument panel is litthroughout the disarmingprocess.

In the
"OFF" position, the passen-
ger air bag will not be triggered in the event of an impact. As soon as the child seat is removed, turn the air bag slot to the"ON" position to re-activate the air
bag and thus ensure the safety ofyour passenger in the event of animpact. Operating check This is confirmed by an indicator light, accompanied by an audiblesignal and a message on the multi-
function display. With the ignition on (2nd notch), illumi- nation of this warning light accompa-nied by an audible signal and the mes-sage "Passenger air bag disarmed"
on the multifunction display, indicatesthat the passenger air bag is disarmed(switch in the "OFF"position SIDE AIRBAGS * These are incorporated into the frame of the front seat back, on thedoor side. They are deployed independently of each other depending on which sidethe collision occurs, in collisionswhich could cause injury to thechest, the abdomen or the head.
Operating check
This is confirmed by an indicatorlight on the instrument panel. It comes on for six seconds, each time the ignition is switched on. If the indicator light:
- does not light up when the ignition is switched on, or
- does not go out after six seconds, or
- flashes for five minutes then stays on,
contact a PEUGEOT dealer.
