Objects observed in the
driver’s and passenger’s
mirrors are in reality closer
than they appear. This must be taken into account to
judge correctly the distance of ve-

Gear selection gate
F Move the lever in the gate to
select a position.
The indicator light corresponding to the position selected appears
on the instrument panel screen.
P ark: to immobilise the vehicle and

brake on or off.
R everse: to reverse (select this
p o s i t i o n w i t h t h e v e h i c l e s t a t i o n a r y ,
engine at idle).
N eutral: to start the engine and to
park , w i t h t h e h a n d b r a k e o n .
If position N is inadvertently engaged
w h i l e d r i v i n g , a l l o w t h e e n g i n e t o r e -
turn to idle before engaging position D

Starting the engine

In this situation the gearbox oper-
a t e s i n d o w n g r a d e m o d e ( l o c k e d i n
3rd gear). You may feel a substan-
t i a l k n o c k w h e n c h a n g i n g f r o m P to
R and from N to R ( t h i s w i l l n o t c a u s e
any damage to the gearbox).
D o n o t e x c e e d 6 0 m p h ( 1 0 0 k m / h ) ,
respecting local speed limits.
Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.
I f t h e b a t t e r y i s l a t a n d t h e
lever is in position P , i t w i l l
be impossible to change
to another position.
I n p a r t i c u l a r , d o n o t f o r c e t h e l e v e r
or there is a risk the gearbox may
be damaged. When the vehicle is be-
i n g d r i v e n , i l l u m i n a t i o n o f
t h i s w a r n i n g l i g h t a n d o f t h e

Exceeding the programmed
speed
Pressing the accelerator in order to
e x c e e d t h e p r o g r a m m e d s p e e d w i l l
have no effect unless you press the
pedal i r m l y beyond the point of re-
sistance .
The limiter is deactivated temporarily
a n d t h e p r o g r a m m e d s p e e d , w h i c h i s
s t i l l d i s p l a y e d , l a s h e s ( e . g . a t 7 0 m p h
(110 km/h)):
Note: t h e s p e e d a l s o l a s h e s w h e n
the limiter cannot prevent the vehicle
from exceeding the programmed
s p e e d ( o n a s t e e p d e s c e n t , i n t h e
event of sharp acceleration).
T o r e a c t i v a t e t h e l i m i t e r , r e l e a s e t h e
a c c e l e r a t o r t o s l o w d o w n t o a s p e e d
b e l o w t h e p r o g r a m m e d s p e e d . Switching the function off

Operating fault
I n t h e e v e n t o f a l i m i t e r m a l f u n c t i o n ,
the programmed speed is cleared
a n d t h e i n d i c a t i o n b e l o w a p p e a r s :
In the event of a steep descent
o r s h a r p a c c e l e r a t i o n , t h e s p e e d
l i m i t e r w i l l n o t b e a b l e t o p r e v e n t
the vehicle from exceeding the
programmed speed.
I n a n y e v e n t , t h e s p e e d l i m i t e r c a n
-
not replace the need to observe
s p e e d l i m i t s , n o r c a n i t r e p l a c e t h e
need for vigilance and responsibility
on the part of the driver.
To prevent the mat from becoming
caught under the pedals:
-
ensure that the mat and its
i x i n g s a r e p o s i t i o n e d c o r r e c t l y.
- n e v e r i t o n e m a t o n t o p o f another.
You are advised to keep your feet
near the pedals.

Reactivating the cruise control
After cancellation of the cruise con-
t r o l , press button 4 . Y o u r v e h i c l e w i l l
return to the last memorised speed.
The display indicates (e.g. at 70 mph
(110 km/h)):
It is also possible to reactivate the
cruise control by pressing button 2 or
3 . T h e m e m o r i s e d s p e e d w i l l t h e n b e
t h e s p e e d a t w h i c h t h e v e h i c l e w a s
t r a v e l l i n g w h e n t h e c r u i s e c o n t r o l
w a s r e a c t i v a t e d .
Changing the memorised
reference speed
To memorise a speed higher than the
p r e v i o u s o n e , t h e r e a r e t w o o p t i o n s :
Without using the accelerator:
F press button 3 ;
A brief press increases by 1 mph
(1 km/h).
An extended press increases by 5 mph
(5 km/h).
A maintained press increases in
steps of 5 mph (5 km/h).
Using the accelerator:
F exceed the memorised speed
until the required speed is
r e a c h e d ,
F press button 2 or 3. T o m e m o r i s e a s p e e d l o w e r t h a n t h e
previous one:
F
press button 2 ;
A brief press decreases by 1 mph (1 km/h).
An extended press decreases by 5 mph
(5 km/h).

Cancelling the memorised
reference speed
F When the vehicle becomes
s t a t i o n a r y , a f t e r s w i t c h i n g o f f t h e
i g n i t i o n , t h e s y s t e m n o l o n g e r
memorises a speed.
Switching the function off
F Place dial 1 in position 0 to
s w i t c h t h e s y s t e m o f f . Operating fault
In the event of a cruise control mal-
f u n c t i o n , t h e m e m o r i s e d s p e e d i s
e r a s e d , t h e d a s h e s l a s h f o r a f e w
seconds:
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer to have
the system checked.
When changing the memo-
rised reference speed by
m e a n s o f a m a i n t a i n e d p r e s s ,
pay attention as the speed
can increase or decrease rapidly.
Do not use the cruise control on slip-
p e r y r o a d s o r i n h e a v y t r a f i c .
I n t h e e v e n t o f a s t e e p s l o p e , t h e c r u i s e
control cannot prevent the vehicle from
exceeding the programmed speed.
I n a n y e v e n t , t h e c r u i s e c o n t r o l c a n n o t
replace the need to observe the speed
l i m i t s , n o r c a n i t r e p l a c e t h e n e e d f o r
vigilance and responsibility on the part
of the driver.

In exceptional conditions (starting a
v e h i c l e w h i c h i s b o g g e d d o w n , s t u c k
i n s n o w , o n s o f t g r o u n d ) , i t m a y b e
advisable to disarm the ASR and
E S P s y s t e m s , s o t h a t t h e w h e e l s c a n
move freely and regain grip.
F Press the "ESP OFF" s w i t c h ,
l o c a t e d u n d e r t h e s t e e r i n g w h e e l
to the right. Operating check
The ASR/ESP systems
offer exceptional safety
i n n o r m a l d r i v i n g , b u t t h i s
should not encourage the
driver to take extra risks or drive at
high speed.
The correct functioning of these
systems depends on observation
of the manufacturer's recommen-
d a t i o n s r e g a r d i n g w h e e l s ( t y r e s
a n d r i m s ) , t h e b r a k i n g c o m p o -
n e n t s , t h e e l e c t r o n i c c o m p o n e n t s
and the PEUGEOT assembly and
operation procedures.
A f t e r a n i m p a c t , h a v e t h e s y s t e m
checked by a PEUGEOT dealer.
Operation of the ASR and ESP
systems T h e s w i t c h l i g h t s u p a n d t h e
w a r n i n g l i g h t c o m e s o n , a c

companied by a message
on the multifunction display:
the ASR and ESP systems are dis-
armed.
These are triggered again :
F automatically if the ignition is
s w i t c h e d o f f ,
F m a n u a l l y b y p r e s s i n g t h e s w i t c h
again. When a malfunction of the
s y s t e m s o c c u r s , t h e s w i t c h
l i g h t l a s h e s a n d t h e w a r n i n g
light comes on.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer to have
the systems checked.
T h e w a r n i n g l i g h t l a s h e s i f
the ASR or ESP is activated.
Activation of the ASR and ESP
systems
W h e n t h e i g n i t i o n i s o n , t h e A S R a n d
E S P s y s t e m s a r e a l w a y s a c t i v e .
These systems are linked and com-
plement the ABS.
The ASR system optimises drive to
p r e v e n t t h e w h e e l s s k i d d i n g , b y a c t
-
i n g o n t h e b r a k e s o f t h e d r i v e w h e e l s
a n d o n t h e e n g i n e . I t a l s o a l l o w s t h e
directional stability of the vehicle to
be improved on acceleration.
I f t h e r e i s a v a r i a t i o n b e t w e e n t h e t r a -
j e c t o r y f o l l o w e d b y t h e v e h i c l e a n d
t h a t r e q u i r e d b y t h e d r i v e r , t h e E S P
system automatically acts on the en-
gine and the brake of one or more
w h e e l s , i n o r d e r t o p u t t h e v e h i c l e
b a c k o n c o u r s e , w i t h i n t h e l i m i t s o f
t h e l a w s o f p h y s i c s .
