CHILD SAFETY(continued)
In all countries there are regulations
governing the use of restraint
systems for children and babies.
In Europe, children under 12 years
ofage,lessthan1.50mtalland
weighing less than 36 kg
(1)must be
restrained with an approved
restraint adapted to the child's
weight and height.
The driver is responsible for
ensuring that this equipment is
used correctly.
Child restraints for which type
approval was obtained after January
1992 offer a level of safety much
greater than for restraints with type
approval before that date.
We therefore advise you to select an
approved child restraint that
complies with European regulation
ECE 44.
Restraints that comply with this
legislationmustbemarkedwithan
orange label bearing the letterE
followed by a number (which
stands for the country where it is an
approved type) and the year in
which the type approval was
granted.
(1) Always comply with the laws of the
country in which you are travelling.
They may be different to the
guidelines in this handbook.
Remember that a collision at
30 mph (50 km/h) is the same as
falling a distance of 10 metres.
Expressed in other terms,
transporting a child without a
restraint is the equivalent of
allowing him or her to play on a
third-floor balcony which does not
have any railings.
Under no circumstances
should babies or children
be allowed to travel sitting
on the knees of another
passenger in the vehicle.
If a head-on collision occurs at
30 mph (50 km/h) a child weighing
30 kg (66 lbs) will be transformed
into a missile equivalent to one
tonne: you will find it impossible
to hold the child, even if you
yourself are wearing a belt.
It is particularly dangerous to put
the belt round your child when he
or she is sitting on your knee.
Never use the same belt for more
than one person at the same time.The tables on the following pages
inform you of the types of seat that
can be fitted in each of the vehicle
seat positions on the vehicle in
accordance with the European
directive.
Before installing a child seat in the
front seat(if fitting is permitted)
If the passenger seat is fitted with
one, carry out the following
adjustments:
- pull back the seat as far as
possible,
- straighten the seatback as much as
possible,
- raise the seat squab as far as
possible,
- pull the headrest up to its
maximum position,
- move the seat belt height control
to the low position.

RENAULT Network to choose the
seat suited to your child and
recommended for your vehicle.

QUICKSHIFT 5 GEARBOX(continued)
Automatic mode
Automatic mode is selected by
default every time the ignition is
switched on.
You can change it at any time when
driving by pressing the mode
change button. The letterAappears
on the display.
The vehicle is controlled using the
accelerator and the brake. Gears will
change automatically at the correct
moment to a speed suitable for the
engine because the automatic
function takes into consideration
the weight of the car, the road
surface and the chosen driving
style.Note:
Automatic mode takes account of:
- the position and speed of
depression of the accelerator
pedal to assess driving style and
select the optimum gear,
- action on the brake pedal to alert
the engine brake by anticipating
the down-change
You can stop the vehicle at red
lights, with the gear engaged, by
pressing the brake pedal; there is no
need to change to neutral.
The vehicle will move off again:
- slowly, if you release just the brake
without accelerating (e.g. when in
a traffic jam)
- quickly, if you release the brake
and accelerate.
The level of oil in the
automatic gearbox system
reservoir is variable
depending on use. Adding
oil isstrictly forbidden(except by
qualified Renault network
personnel).

LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT(continued)
Rear shelf
To remove, release the two return
cords1.
Do not place any objects,
in particular heavy or
hard objects, on the rear
parcel shelf. These may
pose a risk to the vehicle
occupants if the driver has to
brake suddenly or if the vehicle
is involved in an accident.Gently lift the shelf and pull it
towards you.
Refitting is the reverse of removal.
Built-in garment case2
This is located under the rear parcel
shelf and is closed by a zip fastener.
It can be used to store clothes.
The total weight of luggage
placed in the built-in
garment case must not
exceed 5 kg (11 lbs).

BONNET
Opening the bonnet
To open, pull handle1.
Bonnet safety lock
To unlock, lift lever2.
Lift the bonnet, release the strut4
from its mounting3. For your safety,
thismustbe placed in location5.
Closing the bonnet
To close the bonnet, replace strut4
in its mounting3,hold the bonnet
in the middle and lower it to 20 cm
above the closed position. Now
release it and it will lock under its
own weight.
Check that the bonnet is correctly
locked.
Check that nothing has been left in
the engine compartment before
closing the bonnet.
Ensure it is correctly
locked.
Take care when working
under the bonnet as the
engine cooling fan may
cut in at any moment.

TOWING breakdown
The steering lock must not be
applied; the ignition key must be in
position “M” (ignition) allowing
lights and signals to be used (stop
lights and direction indicators).
The vehicle lights must be used at
night.
It is also important to observe the
towing conditions defined by the
legislation for the particular country
you are in. Do not exceed the towing
weight for your vehicle. Consult
your Renault Dealer.Only use the towing ring2(in the
tool kit1) and the towing points at
the front3. (Never use the drive
shafts.) These towing points may
only be used for pulling the car,
never for lifting it either directly or

kit to finish tightening it.
