Front centre air distribution duct: Removal - Refitting

REMOVAL
I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION
aLock the airbag computer using the Diagnostic tool
(see Fault finding - Replacement of components)
(MR 413 Fault finding, 88C, Airbags and pretension-
ers).
aDisconnect the battery (see Battery: Removal - Re-
fitting) (MR 411, 80A, Battery).
aRemove the passenger's front airbag (see Passen-
ger's frontal airbag: Removal - Refitting) (MR
411, 88C, Airbags and pretensioners).
aUnclip the upper storage compartment on the driv-
er's side (1) .
aRemove the instrument panel (see Instrument pan-
el: Removal - Refitting) (MR 411, 83A, Instrument
panel).aUnclip the centre air vent and trim (2) .
aDisconnect the hazard warning lights switch connec-
tor.
aRemove:
-the centre air vent and trim,
-the control panel (see 61A, Heating, Control pan-
el: Removal - Refitting, page 61A-65) . Equipment required

II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART
CONCERNED
aRemove the mounting bolt from the front centre air
distribution duct.
aUnclip on the front centre air distribution duct (3) .
aRemove the front centre air distribution duct from
above.
REFITTING
I - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART
CONCERNED
aRefit the front centre air distribution duct from above.
aClip on the front centre air distribution duct.
aRefit the mounting bolt from the front centre air dis-
tribution duct.
II - FINAL OPERATION.
aConnect the hazard warning lights switch connector.
aRefit:
-the control panel (see 61A, Heating, Control pan-
el: Removal - Refitting, page 61A-65) ,
-the centre air vent and trim.
aClip on the centre air vent and trim.
aRefit the instrument panel (see Instrument panel:
Removal - Refitting) (MR 411, 83A, Instrument
panel).aClip on the upper storage compartment on the driv-
er’s side.
aRefit the passenger's front airbag (see Passenger's
frontal airbag: Removal - Refitting) (MR 411, 88C,
Airbags and pretensioners).
aConnect the battery (see Battery: Removal - Refit-
ting) (MR 411, 80A, Battery).
aUnlock the airbag computer using the Diagnostic
tool (see Fault finding - Replacement of compo-
nents) (MR 413 Fault finding, 88C, Airbags and pre-
tensioners).

aLock the airbag computer using the Diagnostic tool
(see Fault finding - Replacement of components)
(MR 413 Fault finding, 88C, Airbags and pretension-
ers).
aDisconnect the battery (see Battery: Removal - Re-
fitting) (MR 411, 80A, Battery).
aUnclip the upper storage compartment on the driv-
er's side (1) .
aRemove:
-the passenger's front airbag (see Passenger's
frontal airbag: Removal - Refitting) (MR 411,
88C, Airbags and pretensioners),
-the instrument panel (see Instrument panel: Re-
moval - Refitting) (MR 411, 83A, Instrument pan-
el).aUnclip the « trim - air vent » assembly (2) .
aDisconnect the hazard warning lights switch connec-
tor.
aRemove the « trim - air vent » assembly (2) .
aUnclip:
-the fuse access flap (3) ,
-the dashboard lower trim. Equipment required

-the fuse access flap.
aConnect the hazard warning lights switch connector.
aClip on the « trim - air vent » assembly.
aRefit:
-the instrument panel (see Instrument panel: Re-
moval - Refitting) (MR 411, 83A, Instrument pan-
el),
-the passenger's front airbag (see Passenger's
frontal airbag: Removal - Refitting) (MR 411,
88C, Airbags and pretensioners).
aClip on the upper storage compartment on the driv-
er's side.
aConnect the battery (see Battery: Removal - Refit-
ting) (MR 411, 80A, Battery).
aUnlock the airbag computer using the Diagnostic

el).aUnclip the « trim - air vent » assembly (2) .
aDisconnect the hazard warning lights switch connec-
tor.
aRemove the « trim - air vent » assembly (2) .
II - REMOVAL OPERATION FOR PART
CONCERNED
aUnclip the recirculation control cable from the control
panel (6) .
aRemove the control panel ball joint (7) . Equipment required

aUnclip the recirculation control cable (8) from the
distribution unit.
aPress on the tab (9) .
aRemove the distribution unit ball joint (10) .
aRemove the recirculation control cable.
REFITTING
I - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART
CONCERNED
aRefit the recirculation control cable.
aFit the ball joint on the distribution unit.
aPress on the tab.
aClip the recirculation control cable on the distribution
unit.
aFit the ball joint to the control panel.
aClip the recirculation control cable on the control
panel.
II - FINAL OPERATION.
aConnect the connector to the hazard warning light
switch.
aRefit the « trim - air vent » assembly
aClip on the « trim - air vent » assembly.aRefit:
-the instrument panel (see Instrument panel: Re-
moval - Refitting) (MR 411, 83A, Instrument pan-
el),
-the passenger's front airbag (see Passenger's
frontal airbag: Removal - Refitting) (MR 411,
88C, Airbags and seat belt pretensioners).
aClip on the upper storage compartment, on the driv-
er's side.
aConnect the battery (see Battery: Removal - Refit-
ting) (MR 411, 80A, Battery).
aUnlock the airbag computer using the Diagnostic
tool (see Fault finding - Replacement of compo-
nents) (MR 413, 88C, Airbags and pretensioners).

I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION
aDrain the coolant circuit using the refrigerant
charging station (see 62A, Air conditioning, Re-
frigerant circuit: Draining - Filling, page 62A-8) .
aLock the airbag computer using the Diagnostic tool
(see Fault finding - Replacement of components)
(88C, Airbags and pretensioners).
aDisconnect the battery (see Battery: Removal - Re-
fitting) (80A, Battery).
aRemove:
-the windscreen wiper arms (see Windscreen wip-
er arm: Removal - Refitting) (85A, Wiping -
Washing),
-the scuttle panel grille (see Scuttle panel grille:
Removal - Refitting) (56A, Exterior equipment),
-the scoop under the scuttle panel grille (see Scoop
under the scuttle panel grille: Removal - Refit-
ting) (56A, Exterior equipment).a
aRemove:
-the bolt (1) from the expansion valve - compressor
connecting pipe.
-the bolt (2) from the condenser - expansion valve
connecting pipe.
aMove aside the connecting pipes.
aFit plugs to the openings. Special tooling required
Ms. 583Pipe clamps .
Mot. 1448Remote operation pliers for
hose clips .
Mot. 1202-01Clip pliers for hose clips
(large size).

IMPORTANT
To avoid all risk of damage to the systems, apply
the safety and cleanliness instructions and opera-
tion recommendations before carrying out any
repair (see 62A, Air conditioning, Air condition-
ing: Precautions for the repair, page 62A-1) .

WARNING
To prevent moisture from entering the system,
place plugs on the cold loop components which
are open to the air.
WARNING
In order to avoid any refrigerant leaks, do not
damage (deform, twist, etc.) the pipe.
Note:
Use blanking plugs for the fuel circuits with part
numbers 77 01 208 229 or 77 01 476 857 to plug
any openings exposed to the open air. They must
be clean. Do not use any which have already
been used to plug a fuel circuit.

-the cross member reinforcement bolts (8) ,
-the cross member reinforcement.
aPut a protective cover on the floor carpet.II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART

aRemove:
-the bolt (9) from the heater matrix pipe bracket on
the distribution unit,
-the heater matrix pipe bracket on the distribution
unit,
-the bolt (10) from the heater matrix pipe bracket.
-the heater matrix pipe bracket,
-the heater matrix bolts (11) .
aPut a container in place to recover the coolant.
aRemove the heater matrix and its pipes.
aUnclip the pipe bracket.
aRemove the heater matrix pipes.
REFITTING
I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION
aReplace the seals between the pipes and the heater
matrix.

sound before positioning the new seal. The sur-
face must be clean and scratch free.

-the bolt (6) from the heater matrix pipe bracket on
the distribution unit,
-the heater matrix pipe bracket on the distribution
unit,
-the bolt (7) from the heater matrix pipe bracket.
-the heater matrix pipe bracket,
-the heater matrix bolts (8) .
aPut a container in place to recover the coolant.
aRemove the heater matrix and its pipes.
aUnclip the pipe bracket.
aRemove the heater matrix pipes.
REFITTING

aAlways replace the seals between the pipes and the
heater matrix.II - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART
CONCERNED
aFit the pipes on the heater matrix with new seals.
aClip on the pipe bracket.
aRefit the heater matrix and its pipes.
aRefit:
-the heater matrix bolts,
-the heater matrix pipe bracket,
-the bolt on the heater matrix pipe bracket,
-the heater matrix pipe bracket on the distribution
unit,
-the heater matrix pipe bracket bolt on the distribu-
tion unit.
III - FINAL OPERATION
aRemove the protective cover on the floor carpet.
aRefit:
-the dashboard (see Dashboard: Removal - Refit-
ting) (57A, Interior equipment),
-the central console (see Centre console: Remov-
al - Refitting) (57A, Interior equipment).
aRefit the storage compartment.
aRefit the radio (see Radio: Removal - Refitting)
(86A, Radio).
aRefit the tweeters (see Tweeter: Removal - Refit-
ting) (86A, Radio).
aRefit:
-the control panel (see 61A, Heating, Control pan-
el: Removal - Refitting, page 61A-65) ,
