The windscreen wiper blades are supplied as
standard with a layer of graphite. This layer is
responsible for ensuring that the wipe is si-
lent. If the graphite layer is damaged, the
noise of the water as it is wiped across the
windscreen will be louder.
Check the condition of the wiper blades regu-
larly. If the wipers scrape across the glass
they should be changed if they are damaged,
or cleaned if they are dirty โบโบโบ .
Dam ag
ed w
iper blades should be replaced
immediately. These are available from quali-
fied workshops. WARNING
Worn or dirty windscreen wiper blades reduce
vi s
ibility and increase the risk of accident
and serious injury.
โ Always replace damaged or worn wind-
scr
een wiper blades or blades that no longer
clean the windscreen properly. CAUTION
โ Damag ed or dir
ty windscreen wipers could
scratch the glass.
โ If products containing solvents, rough
spong
es or sharp objects are used to clean
the blades, the graphite layer will be dam-
aged.
โ Never use fuel, nail varnish remover, paint
thinner or simil
ar products to clean the win-
dows. CAUTION
โ To pr ev
ent damage to the bonnet and the
wiper arms, only leave them in the service
position.
โ Before driving, always lower the wiper
arms. Note
If wax deposits, other cleaning products from
the autom atic
car wash, or other care prod-
ucts, are left on the windscreen and the rear
window, the blades can scratch the glass. Re- move wax deposits with a special product or
cl

When towing or tow starting, respect the le-
gal requirements.
For technical reasons, it is not possible to
tow a vehicle if the battery is flat.
In general, the vehicle should not be started
by towing. Jump-starting is much more pref-
erable โบโบโบ
๏จ page 43.
For technical reasons, the following vehicles
can not be tow started:
โ Vehicles with an automatic gearbox.
โ If the vehicle battery is flat, it is possible
that the en
gine control unit does not operate
correctly.
However, if your vehicle must absolutely be
tow-started (manual gearbox):
โ Put it into second or third gear.
โ Keep the clutch pressed down. ยป

The vehicle key includes an emitter and bat-
tery. The receiver is in the interior of the vehi-
cle. The range of the vehicle key with remote
control and new battery is several metres
around the vehicle.
If it is not possible to open or close the vehi-
cle using the remote control key, this should
be re-synchronised โบโบโบ page 94 or the bat-
tery changed โบโบโบ page 93. Different keys belonging to the vehicle may
be used.

To fold it press the button and fold the key
shaft in until it locks in place.
Spare key
To obtain a spare key and other vehicle keys,
the vehicle chassis number is required.
Each new key must contain a microchip and
be coded with the data from the vehicle elec-
tronic immobiliser. A vehicle key will not work
if it does not contain a microchip or the mi-
crochip has not been encoded. This is also
true for keys cut for the vehicle.
The vehicle keys or new spare keys can be
obtained from a SEAT dealership, a Special-
ised workshop or approved key service quali-
fied to create this kind of key.
New keys or spare keys must be synchron-
ised before use โบโบโบ page 94. WARNING
Careless or incorrect use of vehicle keys may
re s
ult in severe injury and accident.
โ Always take all the keys with you whenever
you le
ave the vehicle. Children and unauthor-
ised individuals could lock the doors or the boot hatch, start the engine or turn on the ig-
nition, activatin
g el
ectrical systems, the elec-
tric windows, for example.
โ Never leave children or disabled people
alone in the car
. They could be trapped in the
car in an emergency and will not be able to
get themselves to safety. For example, de-
pending on the time of the year, tempera-
tures inside a locked and closed vehicle can
be extremely high or extremely low resulting
in serious injuries and illness or even death,
particularly for young children.
โ Never remove the key from the ignition if
the vehic
le is in motion. The steering may
lock and it will not be possible to turn the
steering wheel. CAUTION
The remote control key contains electronic
component s. Pr
otect them from damage, im-
pacts and humidity. Note
โ Only u
se the key button when you require
the corresponding function. Pushing the but-
ton unnecessarily could accidentally unlock
the vehicle or trigger the alarm. It is also pos-
sible even when you are outside the radius of
action.

tem prevents minors from opening a door ac-
cidentally while the vehicle is running.
This function is independent of the vehicle
electronic opening and locking systems. It
only affects rear doors. It can only be activa-
ted and deactivated manually, as described
below:
Activating the childproof lock
โ Unlock the vehicle and open the door in
which y
ou wish to activate the childproof
lock.
โ With the door open, rotate the groove in
the door usin
g the ignition key, anti-clock-
wise for the left-hand side doors โบโบโบ Fig. 105 and clockwise for the right-hand side
doors.

wise for the right-hand side doors, and
clockwise for the left-hand side doors
โบโบโบ Fig. 105.
Once the childproof lock is activated, the
door can only be opened from the outside.
The childproof lock can be activated or deac-
tivated by inserting the key in the groove
when the door is open, as described above.
Rear lid Introduction WARNING
Careless and unsuitable locking, opening and
clo s
ing of the rear lid can cause accidents
and serious injury.
โ Open and close the rear lid only when no-
body is
in the way. โ
Do not c lo
se the rear lid by pushing it down
with your hand on the rear window. This
could break and cause injury.
โ Ensure the rear lid is locked after closing,
otherwi
se, it may open unexpectedly while
driving. A closed rear lid should be flush with
the corresponding parts of the bodywork.
โ Always keep the rear lid closed while driv-
ing to av
oid toxic gases entering the vehicle
interior.
โ Do not open the rear lid when there is a
load in
stalled, for example a carrier system.
Likewise, the boot hatch cannot be opened
when a load is attached to it, for example bi-
cycles. An open rear lid could close itself if
there is an additional weight on it. If necessa-
ry, press down on the rear lid and remove the
load.
โ Close and lock both the rear lid and all the
other doors when
you are not using the vehi-
cle. Ensure that nobody remains inside the
vehicle.
โ Never allow children to play inside or
around the
vehicle without supervision, espe-
cially if the rear lid is open. Children could
enter the luggage compartment, close the
rear lid and become trapped. Depending on
the time of the year, temperatures inside a
locked and closed vehicle can be extremely
high or extremely low resulting in serious in-
juries and illness or even death, particularly
for young children.

ldren to play inside or around the vehi-
cle without supervision, especially if the rear
lid is open. Children could enter the luggage
compartment, close the rear lid and become
trapped. A locked vehicle can be subjected to
extremely high and low temperatures, de-
pending on the time of year, thus causing se-

sporting objects
Introduction Always transport heavy loads in the luggage
comp
ar
tment and place the seat backs in a
vertical position. Never overload the vehicle.
Both the carrying capacity as well as the dis-
tribution of the load in the vehicle affect driv-
ing behaviour and braking ability โบโบโบ .
WARNING
Unsecured or incorrectly secured objects can
cau se seriou
s injury in case of a sudden ma-
noeuvring or breaking or in case of an acci-
dent. This is especially true when objects are
struck by a detonating airbag and fired
through the vehicle interior. To reduce the
risks, please note the following:
โ Secure all objects in the vehicle. Always
keep equipment and he
avy objects in the lug-
gage compartment.
โ Always secure objects with suitable rope or
sling
s so that they cannot enter the deploy-
ment areas around the frontal or side airbags
in case of sudden braking or an accident.
โ Always ensure that objects inside the vehi-
cle c
annot move into the deployment area of
the bags while driving. โ
Whil e driv
ing, always keep object compart-
ments closed.
โ Remove all objects from the front passen-
ger seat
when it is folded down. When the
seat backrest is folded down, it presses on
small and light objects and these are detec-
ted by the weight sensor on the seat; this
sends false information to the airbag control
unit.
โ While the backrest of the front passenger
seat i
s folded, the frontal airbag must remain
disconnected and the PASSENGER AIRBAG
OFF ๏น light on.
โ Objects secured in the vehicle should never
be plac
ed in such a way as to make passen-
gers sit in an incorrect position.
โ If secured objects occupy a seat, this seat
should not
be occupied or used by anyone. WARNING
The driving behaviour and braking ability
ch an
ge when transporting heavy and large
objects.
โ Adjust your speed and driving style to visi-
bility
, road, traffic and weather conditions.
โ Accelerate gently and carefully.
โ Avoid sudden braking and manoeuvres.
โ Brake early. Transporting the load
Secure all objects in the vehicle
โ Distribute the load throughout the vehicle
and on the roof a
s uniformly as possible.
โ Transport heavy objects as far forward as
poss
ible in the luggage compartment and
lock the seat backs in the vertical position.
โ Check the headlight adjustment
โบโบโบ

โ Use the suitable tyre pressure according to
the load bein
g transported. Read the tyre in-
flation information label โบโบโบ

Transport and practical equipment
WARNING
Driving with the rear lid unlocked or open
cou l
d cause serious injuries.
โ Always drive with the rear lid closed.
โ Secure all objects in the vehicle. Loose
items c
ould fall out of the vehicle and injure
other road users or damage other vehicles.
โ Drive particularly carefully and think
ahead.
โ A
void sudden manoeuvres and braking giv-
en that thi
s could cause an uncontrolled
movement of the open rear lid.
โ When transporting objects that protrude
out of the lug
gage compartment, indicate
them suitably. Observe legal requirements.
โ If objects must project out of the luggage
compar
tment, the rear lid must never be used
to โsecureโ or โattachโ objects.
โ If a baggage rack is fitted on the rear lid, it
should be r
emoved before travelling with the
rear lid open. WARNING
Toxic gases may enter the vehicle interior
when the re ar lid i
s open. This could cause
loss of consciousness, carbon monoxide poi-
soning, serious injury and accidents.
โ To avoid toxic gases entering the vehicle al-
way
s drive with the rear lid closed.
โ In exceptional circumstances, if you must
drive with the r
ear lid open, observe the fol- lowing to reduce the entry of toxic gases in-
side the
v

โ Close all windows.
โ Disable air recirculation mode.
โ Open all of the air outlets on the instru-

โ Switch on the blower to maximum. CAUTION
An open boot hatch changes the length and
height of the
vehicle. Driving a loaded vehicle
For the best handling when driving a loaded

โ Secure all objects โบโบโบ
page 114.
โ Accelerate gently and carefully.
โ Avoid sudden braking and manoeuvres.
โ Brake early.
โ If necessary, read the instructions for driv-
ing with a r
oof carrier system โบโบโบ page 127. WARNING
A sliding load could considerably affect the
st ab
ility and safety of the vehicle resulting in
an accident with serious consequences.
โ Secure loads correctly so they do not move. โ
When tran s
porting heavy objects, use suit-
able ropes or straps.
โ Lock the seat backs in vertical position. Practical equipment
Introduction Storage compartments must only be used to

or
e light or small objects. WARNING
In the event of sudden braking movements or
turn s, loo
se objects may be thrown around
the vehicle interior. This could cause serious
injuries to passengers and cause the driver to
lose control of the vehicle.
โ Do not transport animals or place hard,
heavy or sh
arp objects inside the vehicle in:
open storage compartments, dash panel, rear
shelf, items of clothing or bags.
โ While driving, always keep object compart-
ments c
